New 'X' trailer [Monolithsoft] shows uncut gameplay

I am really surprised at the MH comparison. There is almost nothing in X that resembles MH.(other than that there are monsters, and you have 4 members in the party.)

I was really hoping for more information, but Nintendo is hoarding their ammo for later. At least we got this to whet our appetites, and to assure everyone that it's still coming along.

I'm looking forward to a Gamexplain analysis/rewind theater, but it might take a little longer because to do a good job they need someone to translate the Japanese text (and perhaps the chatter, too).

Right now, it's a three way tie for my most anticipated game between this, Smash, and Mario Kart.

Top right. You see the red and white stripes.

Top right corner you can see what looks like the stripes of the US flag. This is next to the text in other shots which looks to be United States.

It's just the red and white stripes of the flag, to the upper right of the top right corner of the main hitpoint box (the one at the top of the screen). Plus there's the structure with part of "United States" visible on it in the other screen grab. So I guess, planetary exploration? Resources dwindling down maybe (that countdown timer in the previous video)?

Like so?

See it now?

Thanks so much, I see it now.

Gotta get in on the Last Remnant love. Amazingly fun battle system and that soundtrack is godlike. Ignore what you heard of the 360 release people. Get the PC port if your PC can handle it, much much much improved.

Yup, and I gotta quote every time it gets love. I'm a huge SaGa fan. And The Last Remnant PC version is quite good. Plays a lot like a SaGa title, still looks pretty good even today, and has some interesting gameplay systems. I actually need to get back into the game. I stopped playing because I had a lot on my plate at the time, as well as PS4 happened and some new games that I wanted to play.

I wish they ported it to PS3, cause I would have played it way back. My laptop runs it, but it's at a lower resolution than is optimal.

It looks very solid to me. I do agree with people wanting the monsters to be a little more responsive but other than that I see no issues.

It seems as though a lot of people decided to get excited about this game without knowing what type of game it was or bothering to try and find out.

Maybe this has been answered, but has any details on single/multi player balance been released? If the battle system from Xenoblade is improved on that's good enough on its own but I'm more interested in the surrounding systems and mechanics.

This is a pretty good example of how unreactive the monsters are. For an apparently real time system, the bad guys sure do stand in place a lot and barely shown aggression towards the player character(s).

That's because it looks very MMO'ish in that there is a tank (who maintains the monsters attention) while the rest of the group deals out the dmg and heals. I haven't seen any healing yet though.

There haven't been ANY game details released about this game. Everything we know has been from analysing the three videos released for it. Nintendo hasn't even confirmed multiplayer yet.

Can't wait to hear more of the music.

Mech battle music actually has a male and a female vocalist... I wonder how many of the gameplay songs will actually have vocals.

Just to clarify this game is going to be a true JRPG with a story, cutscenes, bosses, etc. right? Because the footage shown today makes it look like another Monster Hunter clone.

I disagree, and honestly, of all the complaints about those games, I've never heard one about the interface until now. The reason being, in older Final Fantasy titles the menus used to take up 1/3rd the screen space, but now they are just hovering there. I never had a problem with the UI in those games; never thought about it and they never got in the way. On the other hand, those are fully turn-based battle systems, excluding Lightning Returns. You don't really need that much screen space. With Xenoblade, you need a little more because you are interacting with the landscape as well as fighting.
Functionally, yeah, I think they are fine. I'm playing through XIII-2 right now and it hasn't caused me any trouble. It's just things like that stupid tech-lookin' thing in the bottom left that wraps a big art asset around an big indicator for something that's already denoted by the name of your paradigm, which is already shown on the screen. (Beside an L1 button in case you forget which one to press!)

Aesthetically, it's busier than it needs to be, IMO. I'm willing to accept that, to a degree, it's a matter of preference though, and that I'm predisposed to finding XIII's UI ugly since I prefer an aesthetically minimal UI.

Of course, XV is still a work in progress and the combat is different (mainly, non-ATB-based), but I find the aesthetic choices made in its UI to be pretty smart:

It acknowledges that the main draw of combat is the actual combat. The UI elements are, for the most part, translucent. They have a distinct presence, but they aren't covering up anything.

X's UI certainly isn't an egregious offender by any means, but it would be for the better if they shrunk down some parts of it and moved things into the corners. Interface components don't necessarily have to be big flashing neon lights to effectively convey information.

sucks that some people were disappointed by the gameplay. it still looks a lot of fun to me, but I admit it was a bit slower paced than I was expecting based on previous trailers.

That's kind of funny, because I find XV's UI to be kind of lackluster, like it has a mockup feel to it. I would be alright if that is in the final game, but it seems it would be hard to read on smaller displays or sitting further away. I like the translucent nature, but I think it could actually benefit by being a bit bigger.

But anyway, I agree with people about X's UI for the most part. Actually, the UI is fine, it's more the other icons that pop up. For instance, in the middle of the video, there's this weird graphic that pops up for a certain attack and covers up the main character, and that's on top of all the other shit on the screen. I think that shit does need to be toned down a bit.

Eh, opinions, opinions. :) One of the things about having a translucent UI is that you can enlarge it without much harm.

But I agree, too, about the damage numbers. I guess they're critical hits? It seems like they went an unnecessary step past what some MMOs do: make crit damage larger, different colored numbers that fade away more slowly.

That looked tedious. Kind of sunk my hype quite a bit, but I guess the game isn't getting a western release anytime soon so there should be time for improvements.

No it doesn't. It doesn't look remotely like Monster Hunter, unless "big enemies" now belong to that franchise.

Yep. Definitely. No worries there.

Why are people so confident about this? I haven't seen or read anything aside from the snippets of footage we've been shown in the various directs so far, but in every one of them I've been seeing what is clearly 3 other players and haven't seen story or anything that would suggest it isn't a multiplayer game. Have they confirmed it's got a single-player story and everything somewhere else? Or is it just a case of "it looks like Xenoblade therefore must have a story because Xenoblade did?"

I agree with most of these points.

I could stand for a simpler less intrusive UI.

This game looks so good. Hopefully the fortunes of the Wii U are turned around, or the console is super cheap by the time this comes out.

Why would anyone think anything else? These guys make RPGs and have been forever. If you've played any of their games, then you should have an idea of what to expect. Either way, there is no way in hell it's like Monster Hunter. No way, not gonna happen.

I can't comment on the other players since in my opinion the other characters were AI controlled. Still, we're talking about Monolith Soft and these guys are the kings of crazy story driven RPGs.

Think this was asked earlier, but didn't see any one else answer.

The little monkey is called a 'Bronze Simius’ (ブロンズ・シミウス), while the big monkey is called the 'Tekken Bruno' or 'Iron Fisted Bruno' (鉄拳のブルーノ). The location is the Primordial Wilderness (原初の荒野), but I think that's come up before.

I really want to know more about the charactes and plot. The world looks fantastic, but I wanna know how those aspects are. Did people who played Xenoblade like the writing and characterization? Are sidequests quirky? Fun? I never got a chance to play because I was a late adopter of the Wii, and now it's too hard to find at a decent price in Canada.

Finally scored a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles last summer and it was the best RPG I've ever played, no hyperbole. Super excited for this one considering the combat system will be a more polished version of its predecessor.

For those of you who claim this is a Monster Hunter clone, have you even played either game?

I would think differently because I'm judging solely based off what I've seen in the videos, and that has looked like a multiplayer game. It's certainly possible the other characters were AI-controlled and they're still settling on names or something, but it seems odd they'd call them 'Player 2' and so on in that case.

Their past history of RPGs doesn't necessarily mean they'll always make RPGs. There's heaps of examples out there of developers deciding to make a completely different type of game to what they've done before. Maybe they really want to try making a Phantasy Star Online-style game? Xenoblade's core gameplay would lend itself quite nicely to Multiplayer since it was half MMO to begin with. Open world with lots of simple kill / fetch quests, control of a single character, cooldown-based combat, aggro management and everything.

Compressed bitmaps? Now I've seen everything.

The X clip really made me laugh. That's awesome. I remember when JRPGs were grand-scale projects. ;_;

I mean all the "this looks disappointing" people clearly didn't bother to look up or learn anything about Xenoblade if they're surprised by X's gameplay clip.
I think people just want confirmation that online multiplayer isn't the focus because that's practically all we've been seeing. How about a cinematic trailer showing characters and story?

QUWMM6T.png

There is no way these aren't player created characters. Just look at them!

Anyone doubting this game as a true JRPG, didn't see the last trailer last year. Game looks fucking amazing.......Granted though Nintendo needs to show a lot more soon.

I agree they need to reveal some info on the story. I don't mind having optional multiplayer but I would like a nice single player story to be the focus. I'm hoping that some of those assets are placeholder, but the player 2, 3, 4 thing is suspicious.

After the Gamplay Trailer i´m sure this will be SP only. This Game looks like Xenoblade 2.0, i don´t get ist how you can compare this with MH. There is nothing at all the Trailers that points in this direction, lol.

It seems there will be some kind of classes, there is a charakter Level and a rank level and the combo system from XB seems to return.
