Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

I lost this match by 2 points.

And I ain't even mad. First time I killed that many Titans.

Game runs absolutely flawlessly on my lackluster pc on max settings at 1080. Played around ten matches without a single hiccup.

Watching videos of this game really doesn't do it justice. Everything just feels so slick. Will definately pick it up.

My only concern is that its so fast. I don't think there will be much, if any, team strategy in pickup games. Then again I guess the same could be said for Call of Duty games also.

I was using 360 pad on pc and managed to stay competitive. I hope it stays that way. I just don't seem to do well with Mouse and keyboard in shooters.

I worry this game is shallow. I'm probably one of the few guys that feels COD has loads of depth, loads of perks and weapons to master that truly change up how you play drastically. Kill streaks add a lot to the game dynamic.

Titanfall from the videos just seems really shallow. Jump off some walls, kill people, jump in robot, die. Is that the whole game in a nutshell? Repeat those 4 steps over and over and over?

I've preordered but considering cancelling tbh. Game looks fun but looks like it'd get old fast.

Game is a blast.

COD and BF4 comparisons will be aplenty but they don't have the fun factor this game does imo and this is just a beta. I don't find myself getting frustrated, getting tired after a few matches, etc.

I just put in 3 hours straight and would've kept playing had I not looked at the clock.

Incredible how easy it is and how terrible some of the people both on my team and opposing team are. I'm consistently getting 75-85 points on Attrition while everyone else is struggling to get to 40. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Servers are flawless now on Xbox One. In and out without any hiccups.

You are blind. Titanfall has perks/attachments and shit just like CoD along with a fucking mech that has it's own perks.

Only played a few games and really enjoying it other than the pilot AI. At the minute they seem to add absolutely zero to the game other than an artificial player count and an XP boost for players.

Time after time I've been fighting other players and had their minions sit and watch me slay them, only to kill them afterwards. Feels stupid.

I'm doing ok, but the game is giving me motion sickness. God damn, I've already missed out on Portal because of this.

The game is not running as well as I'd hope it would on an overclocked GTX 670. It's 60 all the time but with random spikes occasionally, and BF4 actually does better on my rig on Ultra. (And it looks a lot worse than BF4, too)

I'm loving the intensity of the game so far though and the Titans really add a lot to the game. Looking forward to release

I posted last night about characters, weapons and moving models to have that weird gamey bug where it all turns elastic. I still have this bug, which means I literally can't see my weapon, or even half the screen.

How can I get this bug out???

Seems like your graphic card is overheating. Try new drivers, or blowing some dust off ;)

Is this really connected to that?
I mean, I know my computer's shit, but I'd expect the game to just run like shit, not having the models be all weird.

Game is better than I was expecting but seems a little shallow and especially with the minimum 120ms ping for Aussies I can't see myself getting this.

The titan vs titan stuff is a little visually busy, I had no idea what was going on with all the effects.

Another question for the smart Gaffers

My PC is fairly old, but not too bad.. Q8300 with 4GB and a 6850

I'm playing at 1900x600 and can play fine with everything maxed apart from textures (med)

Med textures look REALLY bad though, so I tried High - all goes well, until I choose my titan - it drops me into game but with "reconnecting to server" before dumping me to the main menu.

Its 100% repeatable - drop back to med textures and its fine again..

Anyone know what amount of GPU memory "high" needs? I know insane is 3GB so a no go on a 1GB card like mine..

This rate, I'm going to get it on Xbox 360, since I seriously hope that looks better than Med textures on PC..

Best rat run of the night. Enhanced Targetting on Smart Pistol I don't really see the need for and it didn't feel better. If anything I prefer the larger aoe so I can scan sweep areas / targets better. If it's 1v1 I'll just shoot the personal normally anyway. Stayed on the stacked side of teams so I'm like 20-4 in Attrition lol.

I like the PvE aspect of the game the most, Stimming and wall running everywhere and popping people in the head instantly while supporting Titan fights with 3 Arc grenades.

I find that bothering with taking down Titans only matters if your team is being stupid against them, otherwise I just farm up PvE score faster than their Mexican standoff gets them points. (After tossing my nades and dumping a sidewinder)

Also found the Sniper with the non super zoom scope to be pretty viable with the suppressor.

I got bad news for you if you think that's going to be true.
FWIW I'm running 1080p with High textures and default AA and it was using 1800MB, but it probably scales with available VRAM.

Just finished Pilot trainning. I have no clues how it can look that bad yet not have a constant 60fps, even on my againg machine. Everthing on high, 2x AA and 16x AF at 1080p. It looks like BF4 with everything set to low. Now on to my first match!

Is it weird that I like being on foot more than being in a Titan? Parkour is so much more fun.

That's how I feel too, my favourite part is fighting titans as a pilot (even if it usually doesn't end well for me :P).

Pilot Vs Titan > Titan Vs Titan > Pilot Vs Pilot (which is sort of meh).

It's a fun game, but I doubt I would play this for more than 2 months at most. Being a multiplayer game only really limit the fun. (I'm a single player kind of guy) no story really sucks.

That's also true for me, although to be honest I wouldn't spend more than 2 months on a single player game either. :D

I am really enjoying the game but I am worried that once the novelty of the parkour and titans wear off it will lose some of its sheen.

I was never a COD multiplayer fan (not to keep bringing up that game comparatively speaking) as I always preferred a more tactical slower approach.

Crap..

Just really odd it loads and starts the round, then a server connection issue - almost like the game is taking too long to load and its timing out..

Med textures looks like doom 3 on low blurovision.

Not worth buying a new card just for this, I don't have any problems with anything else, tombraider etc all run maxed.

Even if I was tempted, my CPU would be the next and ram.. sigh

Cheaper to buy a Xbox one, than ram, CPU, mobo, gpu to future proof it - crap.

What graphics card do you have? How much vram does it have?

Really? You went hostile for that?

How about some info on how perks change up gameplay? In COD the way you move about the map changes depending on what you have equipped. That doesn't seem to be the case here as it's all about mobility.

But the biggest factor for me in COD was perks just helped you get to killstreaks which could change everything. Here there's no killstreaks so I'm looking for what else the game does that makes it feel more dynamic?

I'm playing the shit out of battlefield and I love how the team and objective dynamic influences how the game shapes up, I love the ebb and flow or attack and defense whereas in titanfall I'm just seeing a bunch of ninjas flying about with guns and rockets. The destructible environments are also a big influence on things and can completely change your game plan.

Does anyone understand where I'm coming from and can address my fears?

wat? have you played the game? There's a stim pack perk that makes you move faster, or you can choose stealth to be sneaky around the map. Then there's the wall running perk that lets you hang on the wall as well as extend wall running.

there's a perk that makes your titan warp in faster so you can use it to stomp guys on the ground w/ greater accuracy.

i'm also pretty sure there's different styles of mechs that move differently...and i'm pretty sure there's more stuff they left out of the beta.

The fps drops are a lot more noticeable than in other games. Even dropping from 60fps to 50fps makes a huge difference. Compared to BF4 where I usually don't notice it. but i guess that is due to the fast pace.

lowering my Anisotropic filtering from 16x to 4x don't seem to make any difference in terms of performance

Anyone tried playing it on something like this: Core 2 Duo E8400 @3GHz, 4GB RAM and GTX 560 Ti with 1GB RAM? Am I crazy if I buy the game and go in blind, while hoping that it will run fine on my 900p monitor and that hardware from the last question?

P.S. I have no problems with ~30fps, but I'd like to be able to play with textures on high, although I guess playing with them on medium is better than not playing Titanfall at all.

Runs ok on my Q8300 4GB - 6850 - 1600x900 all high apart from textures (med)

Seems 1GB cards are limited to medium textures - hoping someone else can confirm which look like ass close up :(

Games fluid though mostly 60fps but textures look really blurry :(

Odd it loads ok but server times out, so could be a beta bug.. I'm hoping..

The textures are poopoo on High as well.

AF doesn't really do anything for performance, reduce Shaders or something if you want a bigger impact for FPS.

I want to toss this out there since I'm sure some people are curious...

I'm playing the PC version using a Dual Shock 4, since I'm not comfortable with a mouse and keyboard. So far I'm doing absolutely fine, and it feels 100% viable.

I expected to be decimated, and maybe I will be when everyone is used to the game, but for now I'm really enjoying the controller experience on the PC.

This is what I want if you want all that other stuff keep playing Battlefield I'm tired of those games. lol I enjoy the crazy balls to the wall atmosphere I don't want deep strategy different strokes for different folks.

Yay got a key, I must be one of the few playing this in Finland on Xbox One :)

First impressions:

(1) It´s pretty fresh. Not mind blowing, but definitely a good game with well designed mechanics. You can see these are the same guys behind COD (Treyarch deserves props for stepping up though!)

(2) Graphics are better than I expected. The setting is generic, but the art direction is really nice. They need to get rid of the screen tear and FPS drops though, I would prefer that to a rise in native resolution.

(3) It rewards skill, it´s actually a very old school FPS where I imagine after launch the pro´s will wipe out newbies with ease thanks to the parkour mechanics that at this point less than 10% of players seem have a grip on (I don´t!)

(4) It needs some balance tuning, but for a beta it´s already in good shape.

(5) I could care less about it lacking a campaign mode, the multiplayer focus is good.

(6) This won´t save the Xbox One against PS4, but without this it would be in even deeper trouble.

(7) The Xbox One scaler is horrible with the artificial sharpening that makes my eyes bleed. Hopefully I´ll get the system update soon :)

All in all, good work Respawn! A very nice entry to the market from a small team. Between this, Battlefield, Halo and Destiny I can´t see a bright future for COD. If I were Activision I would give the teams on COD a free pass for reinventing the formula and take pretty big risks.

Much appreciated! Although I'm still a bit worried about my dual-core CPU, but oh well.
