Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

I really love that once you get the hang of Wall running you can climb almost anything.i hope the map design is as tight in all the maps fracture and angel city are exquisite. The movement never feels labored and there's multiple points of attack almost every where. Could be the End of camping as we know it

Yeah I have yet to find a spot were I can feel "safe" to snipe.

Having a good time with this. I don't feel like it's a game-changer, but it has enough new elements to stay interesting. Really enjoying Titan combat.

Curious to see what will be "new" in the full release versus beta.

Damn, how do you jump so far. perk card?

You carry momentum through your jumps if you keep jumping. You can see at the start he hops off a wall to the right and gets good distance, second jump, then jumps off the tower and keeps the momentum going.

Having a lot of fun with this on PC. My biggest complaint is how lame the smart pistol is. How on earth did they think that would be a good idea? Nothing infuriates me more than getting killed by that gun.

I was poking around the menus and it looks like ziplines will be included in maps as well since there's a stat about "time on ziplines" or something like that. Maybe there will be really huge gaps to traverse that you can't parkour over and only 1 big titan bridge that is suicide to cross as a pilot?

I love the mobility.

I only managed to get this kind of momentum like once or twice but it's awesome. Nobody could hit me

Absolutely loving this game (PC), so much fun! Feel like such a bad ass when you hear the crack of the titan falling. Everything is so fast and so smooth, they must have put a huge amount of work in to this game, everything just feels so good! Kodos on all the animations in this game...who ever worked on them now has a fan for life!!!

The only minor complaints I have is that the start of the round timer is way to long, I would drop that to 45 seconds. The rounds don't last long enough (time fly's when your having fun!) lastly, the graphics are middling.... I assume this will be fixed in TF2.

Day 1 for me!

I'm all over this game (PC beta), just completed the training missions then had two matches. Our team won them both, the titan gameplay is so damn solid. Can't wait to jump back in tomorrow.

Holy crap i hope so, would make traversal even more fun :)

PC bros, anyone running this on a laptop? If so at what settings? My desktop has no problems, but my Laptop is struggling a lot more than I thought it would be. BF4 runs better, so that doesn't sound right. For reference:

8gb ram

Anybody who kills you with the smart pistol could have killed you quicker with a shotgun, carbine, or smg. I used a smart pistol all day yesterday, switched over to shotgun after losing most of the fights where the player saw me before I had 3 locks. Now I don't need any locks, I just fire and they die.

Enjoying the PC version so far. The game is a blast to play either on foot or in a Titan. I like the strategy that it creates between the two. I'm just hoping that there are a lot more weapon unlocks and more modes in the full game.

I can't believe it either, but just the act of running around the map is fun. The verticality really adds a lot to the game. When you get 4 or 5 veterans on a team, the initial all-out parkour sprint at the start of a match looks and feels amazing.

I had an awesome moment when another titan and I were dueling and we simultaneously ejected and had a gunfight on the way up. None of the hits seemed to register for either of us though. At least they didn't seem to until we were on the way down. I think the velocity Of the eject screwed with the bullet physics.

It's like COD on crack. Which means I'm terrible at it :P But it's fun.

The AI Grunts are kinda interesting because they can't really kill you. Sometimes I'd be getting hit and go, wait oh it's a grunt. Blam!

I also pulled a dude out of a mech and crushed them, that was cool.

My favorite moments are getting into a fire fight around corners and people trying to duck in and out on the ground and I run back around and over the wall and ambush from behind. So satisfying

Glad I was able to get into the beta. I really am. It helped convinced me of what I already thought was the case and as a result it has saved me $60.

This beta just did not convince me that Titanfall is worth adding to my (limited) gaming rotation.

Basically If it was the good old days of my esteemed gaming career and I had countless hours each day to play video games (as I no doubt once did) I would add this game to the roster of games to play.

Unfortunately the truth of my situation is time is very limited these days. If I get 15 hours for an entire week that is considered a truly successful week. As such I am very selective as to what I do play.

Add to this fact I still have a few launch PS4/One games to check out, a vast backlog thanks to PS+ and the Sony Holiday Sale, nevermind Infamous 3 and South Park: The Stick Of Truth coming up, a 3DS and a Vita, I literally have enough games to keep me busy the rest of 2014. Without picking up a single new release, which I no doubt plan on doing. That is no exaggeration.

In all fairness to Titanfall, the FPS genre itself has slowly lost its appeal over the years for myself. It used to be almost the only genre I did play. Perhaps that is part of the overall issue. I have played so many FPS's for so many years it is truly going to take something extremely special to get me excited about the genre again.

I am sure a lot of people are going to like this game. It may even wind up being the reason people use to justify purchasing a One (although I do question this fact after checking the beta out). However this beta just did not convince me this was a game worth adding to my rotation.

i... got jump kicked by a grunt.

no joke, ran into a room and started unloading on a pilot and a room full of grunts. killed the pilot, but as i tracked him go t meleed to death by a braindead ai. i'm pretty good at the game too. epic fail moment, wish i had recorded it

You carry momentum through your jumps if you keep jumping. You can see at the start he hops off a wall to the right and gets good distance, second jump, then jumps off the tower and keeps the momentum going.

There's also a kit that significantly speeds up running and health regen briefly. And another that boosts the length you can walk run and jump.

He still misses how the cloak is terrible against pilots, you're still really easy to see. You can still get people off guard, in which case...any other weapon still gets you a kill in that scenario. You lose in a head on fight unless the person has terrible aim.

Now, an argument could be made for the amped smart pistol. That thing does get pretty dumb.

Got a lot more time to play it today. Now I'm sure its a no buy for me. The core game is so simple and narrowly focused, that it has no nuance or even what feels like skill. I do like the free running, but beyond that, everything else does feel CoD with mechs. This is a budget title that's being hyped up to AAA, and in no way is it going to be worth $60 price tag. Had I not played beta, I surely would have plucked my $60 down, and been severely disappointed.

Something is missing from the game. It just doesn't have a hook for me. I might be in the minority here, but I think once you play it, that minority just might become majority. So disappointed :(

I know most of you will probably disagree with me, but after putting more time into the demo, err, beta, I have to say... I am so disappointed this game didn't turn out better, or at least more interesting. I was really looking forward to ditching Bugfield 4 for this, but it is so inferior in so many ways (and so similar to Call of Duty), there's no way that will happen. On the bright side, Second Assault (BF4) comes out this Tuesday which is almost like perfect timing. Then there's Naval Strike, which is confirmed to have a mode like BF 2142's Titan mode. I just can't find one reason to buy this game and play it over BF4 aside from BF4's bugs, most of which have been ironed out by now.

I see I'm not alone!

You give up massive range and the lockon time even with the perk is far too long. The Carbine is a better weapon unless you are fighting close-mid range and using the mobility of the weapon to farm bots / use terrain against people.

Not a really good argument. It doesn't lockon per shot

I'm still iffy on whether this is worth the 70 dollar price tag.

So far the beta/demo has been alright I guess, but I have my doubts the final product is going to justify the price and the always-on requirement (SimCity makes me concerned here).

I'm not. I could use some new environments though.

The final game has 16 maps, right?

Now I have it pre-ordered (got it for $45 on PC), but one of the most worrisome things about the game is how silent the devs have been about confirming any other features like map count and modes.
