The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

I think this reveal was more aaout showing the engine off, since even the full 13 minutes did have much gunplay.

Which does not sound like a typical 3rd person shooter.

Even if it was about showing the engine off, they missed the [arguably] biggest selling point of the engine! The soft-body physics! I mean, my goodness, why would they skip that part! I also feel like it was just the wrong way to show off the first gameplay.

I'm fine with a third-person shooter. WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE HATE THIRD-PERSON SHOOTERS. Games don't have to invent new genres, or we'd have thousands of genres. Why can't it just be a great third-person shooter?! (I'm not saying automatically that it will be great, but some people seem to be against the idea of even that.)

My PROBLEM with this reveal is it's SO INCREDIBLY uneventful. WHY ON EARTH would RAD/Sony release about TEN SECONDS of gameplay, ALL in a corridor-like environment, devoid of their soft body physics/destructibility, explorable environments, detective stuff, expansiveness and scope? This is not the way to introduce the entire WORLD to the gameplay of The Order!

Man, so many CAPS. I know it's to show emotions, but it's so damn annoying now. I feel like I'm getting yelled at.

Yeah would have like to seen those.

Way too many The Order topics to follow :/

this is a move of the goalposts, yesterday we weren't supposed to judge based on gifs, today it's a trailer.

next-gen graphics, last gen gameplay... basing strictly on what's been shown only. optimistic? sure, why not?

This is exactly what I'm saying as well I basically see a gameplay reveal as a failure when it doesn't properly convey what your game is about gameplay wise.

When Sony first showed off killzone gameplay you could see exactly what the game was about same with uc2, Gow3, infamous, last of us etc.

There was definitely something 'extra' about the way Galahad moved between cover points, the cloth simulation I think.. seemed extra fluid. Also I liked that he could go pretty seamlessly from crouched cover to another cover point but standing, in one motion.

Gears' appeal was that it just felt really good and predictable, I'm hoping for more of that in this game. They sure decided to tackle an ambitious title coming off handhelds.

I don't understand how people seeing this can't be cynical. New generation, new flagship game, yet the gameplay shown is literally indistinguishable from the first Gears of War. Destruction is supposedly a big deal, but they don't show it. Hey guys we have all kinds of cool weapons, let's not show those either. Instead let's show a QTE but we'll say it's not a QTE.

I think it looks extremely rad. My guess is that the gameplay variety will lie mostly with tense, dark environments versus shoot-em-up portions, and the the fantasy/steampunk weapons.

I'm very excited.

As for why they didn't show us more? Uhhh, because it comes out in the fall and we still have E3 and other games conferences to build up hype for their major release?

It's probably not ready to show yet. I'm hoping it will have quite a large impact on the gameplay which is possibly why they have only shown a corridor sequence.

The one QTE we saw has zero likeness to Heavy Rain. Wtf

That's exactly my point. We know these things are in the game because that's exactly what earlier previews like the GI article described. RaD has also previously outlined their philosophy for the contextual melee but we barely got a glimpse of it here. We didn't get to see the other branches, or the other options aside from the knife.

This was a piss poor preview of the game. Be wary, though. Its one thing to be disappointed with the preview, but a whole other thing to be concerned with the direction of the game this far from launch. We saw vanilla TPS with a glimpse at a greater QTE design. Its idiotic to glean from this any greater truth about the title except that its a TPS.

What exactly is "last gen gameplay"...? And since this ties in to "next gen gameplay", what is that? I've been seeing this a lot on this forum in the last 3 months.

The reason we see what we see is because, most likely, this slice of gameplay represents the most visually polished and complete portion of the game. And was probably prioritised so they'd have something to show the press.

PR is rarely in the business of showing off half finished, incomplete content that's not going to blow your mind due to graphical polish generally coming in the later stages of development.

As much as I YEARNED for footage of The Order, I feel overall now that they should have waited for a proper gameplay reveal if certain aspects (namely soft-body physics, but the non-combat stuff like detective work, too) weren' t ready to show off. You really have to BLOW peoples' minds with a gameplay reveal.

Graphics are great, gameplay looks like another gears clone with lots of QTE filler. Hope we get better gameplay footage soon

It's insane how much difference cloth physics make to a character model. To see his entire ensemble shift and sway with his movement adds a lot to a character that I didn't think it would. Adds a nice sense of realism and depth

It's an easy dismissive criticism that you don't have to back up.

When a game obviously presents well and seems popular, you can always knock it htis way.

Notice that no one demands "next gen gameplay" on PC. Which is where we'd see it logically, since PC is so far out in front of the consoles, right...? etc

I didn't expect that to be a big deal. But I think this is the first time I've seen "heavy", non-clippy, cloth. Those dusters when he rolls, it's just crazy looking. Like it's prerendered.

I may have been slightly harsh on this game before but come on "lots of QTE filler"? We saw one QTE out of like a 6-10 hour game. You can't just extrapolate stuff like that

For some reason I was expecting that the enemies would be monsters/creatures of sort. The first few screenshots looked like stuff straight out of RE4. It's completely deflating to see just...dudes with guns. Again. It doesn't look anything like I expected. And I unfortunately mean that in a bad way. It does look miles beyond any next-gen game I've seen so far though.

Pretty sure there will be both.

What was that? Can someone explain me the meaning of GAMEPLAY? rolling and shooting in the corridor with QTE's? Only graphics no gameplay. Yeah next gen indeed. Worst reveal ever.

I'm not convinced this will release this year since they're seemingly being forced to use beginning-of-game footage. Is that really all they have to show?

Man I hate the way Sony does reveals with the whole b-roll thing and cut up gameplay snippets I would much rather just a playthrough like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z5pjDpszLM

or what I would assume the press were shown.

Anyways the graphics look really special, though I want to see more of the gameplay the b-roll pretty much showed nothing on that front.
If you didn't notice, the title of the video is "E3 2009". The Order will pretty much 100% surely get a similar treatment at E3 this year. We are only at February 2014, atm. This is only the modest start for The Order's marketing, they'll gear it up as the year goes on and the release gets closer.

From the way they were describing the QTE sequences, they're gonna be pretty frequent.. At least that's what I got from it. Hopefully I'm wrong

That looked insane. The character models look so good.

I don't get why they'd show gameplay where it looked like somebody was having trouble aiming. I imagine that won't be a problem when the game drops though. Please make the actually act of people fun RAD. Please let this game deliver

Hopefully not. I suppose we will see at E3 though. This coming out at the end of the year to me confirms no Uncharted this year obviously....

hello gorgeous!

goodbye bandwidth!
(i have more if ppl want)

The graphics looks outstanding. The shooting and enemies look generic. Why wouldn't they show us any cool weapons or enemies?

Yeah same. I thought "oh great cloth physics that's nice I guess" but to see it in motion really adds a nice touch. It's hard explain. It seems to connect the character together a bit more I guess. Watching cloth twitch from gun recoil is very nice.

The game really does have some striking visuals gameplay arguments aside

I kind of agree with this. If this was all they could show now, I think it would have been better to get maybe another in-engine cinematic trailer and/or more screenshots of gameplay and then drum up anticipation for a full gameplay demo/reveal at E3.

I dunno what it is about the footage but I see a stream of brilliance with extremely discernible blemishes thoughout that just reeks of a lack of polish.

I agree that this footage was rushed into the public's hands. This game needs a lot more time to cook in the oven and a 2014 release date is really looking like a bad idea to me.

It definitely looks like a stunner but it could all be for nothing unless Sony gives RAD some breathing room into 2015.

While the graphics are super impressive, the gameplay is not pulling me in.

I hope RAD didn't focus too much on the look of the game.

Killzone:SF significantly demo-ed only 2 stages ( forest & hostage ) throughout the entire period of the game's marketing, even up till September. Game was fully featured and complete.

inFamous has only demo-ed 3 areas thus far. The E3 demo, the entry to Seattle, and the harbour. The open-world hasn't been shown in actual gameplay outside of developer videos and screen shots. And it's releasing next month.

It's a pretty weak showing, it showed us nothing new. We got a good look at the graphics, but we already knew that they were good. They half assed the rest. Nobody can tell if the gameplay is good or bad or if the QTE's work or not. Why did Sony show this to us? What purpose?

Just look back to the Uncharted 2 and TLOU gameplay reveals. We immediately got a sense of what these games were about and why we should get exited!

I see these shitty reveals by alot of Sony games. Infamous is handled horrible, where we have been looking to the same segment over and over. And lo behold they showed us another gameplay video that takes place in a fuckin tunnel. Yeah that will hype the shit out of this game. MLB is supposed to be the shit, but no video. Driveclub... yeah.

Whoever is in charge of this at Sony... you suck!

We're probably 6-9 months from release, if it doesn't get delayed. That's a lot of time for spit and polish. I do agree that the gameplay looks unpolished, but I'm really not too concerned with that given the timeframe.
