The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

First indication this wasn't going to be a thorough unveil should have been the fact that they were sharing the event with other games.

But honestly if journalists didn't hype this up and let us know it was coming, I doubt anyone would be complaining. I wish people would keep their mouths shut about embargoes.

Did you press a button to shoot the guy or did you press a button to slice the guy?

*Meaningful choices*

Yeah, they seem like they're probably just window dressing, but it's something different I suppose. It might make slogging through QTEs on a second playthrough slightly more interesting, though.

Even though there's a shit ton of jumping to conclusions here, my friendly advice to developers is if you want to debut your new game to the world for the very first time, a simple, concise no frills gameplay demo does wonders. (see: TLOU)

It's looking to be a heavily scripted, heavily linear QTE-fest Uncharted clone.
Models looked nice, but the environments, meh.

Not very impressive. Definitely not 30fps impressive.

WHAT ON EARTH. "Definitely not 30fps impressive." My friend. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. You've seen a few SECONDS of shooting, ONE quick-time event, and some cutscenes, so you get "heavily scripted, heavily linear QTE-fest Uncharted clone"? PLEASE tell me you realize how ridiculous you sound.

Best looking game I've seen yet but I was hoping for a more proper gameplay reveal. Man, I'm kind of tired of how the industry saves everything for E3/TGS/GDC/Gamescom.

That being said, if this game is described as Gears of War meets Heavy Rain, I'm not sure why I should be upset about that.

So many people crying and bitching when they haven't seen but 30 seconds of legitimate gameplay.

It looks gorgeous and I look forward to seeing more. If your hype is gone because of this, you had no hype built at all to begin with.

I think for a lot of people and their hype, it has subsided from a few different things, namely 30 fps, no multiplayer and now actual lackluster gameplay footage. I thought RAD would come out with a nice, slick gameplay trailer after the bad news that has been dropping on this game recently.

Because reasons, right?

I was hyped based on RAD's previous output and the fact that they've been working on this for ages. But I guess I shouldn't have expected more than derivative gameplay from them.

Regardless how you feel about what little was shown they have the internet buzzing in February for a game coming late this year. And they have a ton left to show. So I'd say mission accomplished.

Exactly my point above.

This reveal didn't really do a whole lot. It was nice to have that little bit more to see and get more of a feel for the game though

Could not agree more. I was expecting a decent length game play demo and came away disappointed. Still want the game but excitement level dropped a notch or 2.

Completely agree. It was a horrible way to introduce the world's first gameplay. Another amazing (IMO better) reveal is UC2's Napal live gameplay. That's a vastly superior way to show off a game.

The gameplay footage wasnt lackluster, it was lacking in length. You cannot judge the gameplay on 10 seconds in the same street section of the game

In the broll, near the end where he jacks open a crate? That's a special weapon.

The set piece of him jumping down on the guy was interesting enough. Can you tell when the cinematic begun? I couldn't.

I meant the special weapons in action. Like the wind gun looks cool but that was in a cutscene. Would have been nice to see it during gameplay. And i wouldn't really label that as a set piece. This team has arguably the best GOW game under their belt. I expect them to do some crazy stuff. So a small glimpse would have been nice but i guess the wait continues.

The one QTE we saw has zero likeness to Heavy Rain. Wtf
The prompts are taken 100% from Heavy Rain and Beyond. It's like a direct copy. The way you can choose looks more like Telltale though, but visually it's pretty much Quantic Dream's 3D prompts (and bullet time). There is nothing wrong with that, but the comparison isn't that far off. Especially since the CEO talks about how he likes Quantic Dream in that interview.

He wanted a reason to write off the game and found one. It doesn't need to be rational, this is GAF, man!

5 seconds of gameplay shows mechanics that you would expect from a game of it's genre: Game is generic

They aren't trying to revolutionize the mechanics of a TPS. What were people expecting? Parkour? Titans?

I'm excited to see what the game is like when it opens up and the monsters come

Ill reserve my judgement until after E3, I think sony will deliver with this title. I need to see more gameplay, but the story and mechanics have peaked my interest.

hello gorgeous!
gyjsdp.gif

goodbye bandwidth!
(i have more if ppl want)

Incredible. Post more. Graphics are insane. Everything was real time. I want a blimblim video at 1080p 60fps. Sony hook him up. Gameplay doesn't look bad. I went through many of the same type of segments of gameplay in Uncharted. I think there will be more open areas they just haven't shown you yet, but they showed this because the game is still early and was the best running at the moment.

That was at E3. No doubt we will see much more at E3.

Oh, completely agree there, but the important point is that it was the gameplay REVEAL. You need to have a big punch for that introduction to the gameplay. If they weren't ready, as much as I wanted footage, they should have waited until E3, and maybe just released the trailer instead.

The setting and characters continue to look awesome, but disapointed we saw so little gameplay especially when they was almost none in the trailer as well. I've heard insiders like thuway compare this reveal with UC2 and to that I can only say "not even close!", the game looks promising but no wow moment like UC2/TLOU so far.

That gameplay looks—ok I guess? It'll hopefully play well, but everything from the camera movement to the scripted NPC animations from the footage here is a little too close to what I've played a lot of already. Visuals are outstanding.

What bad news?

Fully agree. Gamers constantly complain that they don't want to see pre-rendered cut scenes in trailer video, yet game publishers/developers put out cut scene after cut scenes in their videos. We want to see gameplay, gameplay and more gameplay.

Blizzard did good with Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. CG trailers, followed by developer walkthroughs which both lasted 10-20 min.

Damn good cloth animation from the looks of it, and I really like the idea of QTE of that nature being blended into the gameplay to the extent shown. It gives the game another gear or that extra cool mechanic to separate it from other shooters, and I think it'd be a shame not to take advantage of the stylistic and historical period difference of this game compared to some other cover based shooters. I like seeing those badass moves and that the characters (well, one so far) is so highly skilled or trained. It makes it look really cinematic, which is a big part of what they're going for.

And, hey, depending on how things go, there may be hope yet to see King Bradley (:P) do some pretty sick things with a sword of some kind.

Have you played it or are you judging from 10 seconds of gun play.
Didn't you see the shooting sequences? Janky and sluggish. Then those QTE's which looked really lame. Plus the way developer was trying to portray those as some kind of art element... Yeah no thanks. I'm not trying to derail the game unnecessary but it's just that apart from graphics everything seems lame at least based on what I have seen.

So rather than basing your hype around their previous games you are basing it on 20 seconds of gameplay? Sounds like you are a reasonable fella.

What's going on with gaf today? Since the reveal a year ago they showed a trailer with people with guns.. was did people expect? A racing sim ?

Cover based shooters that have no where near as much stick as this is getting.

Gears of War 1-3, Judgement
Uncharted 1-3, Golden Abyss
The Last of Us (When played that way)
Binary Domain
Mass Effect 2-3
Splinter Cell all of them?
Ghost Recon all of them?
Tomb Raider (Reboot)

From a purely aesthetic point of view this game is absolutely stunning.

From gameplay its absolutely fine, NONE of us have played it, NONE of us have seen more than the few seconds we've seen here which by all accounts looks on par if not a generational leap in terms of physics and animations over the above mentioned games.

How do we know this is not a rush into a fortified building therefore a progressing gun fight happens. We have already been told they are also striving for survival horror elements. There will obviously be super intense creeping through enemy lairs and stealth segments. To simply throw your hands in the air and scream OMG ITZ ANOTHER COVER BASED SHOOTER YAWN YAWN is pretty hyperbolic.

Also when was the last time we had a beefy cover based exclusive on playstation platforms?

Sometimes I do wonder.

UC2 had the best gameplay reveal ever, and one that devs should aspire towards. It started with a whimper, chilling out on the roof of that building, taking a little swim, doing a little platforming on the side of the building, opening to a big beautiful vista, all kinds of gameplay that ends with you BEING INSIDE A BUILDING AS IT'S COLLAPSING.

I didn't expect something quite like that here, but it's easy to say I was expecting MORE.

I think the issue here was that journalists hyped the fuck out of this event and the embargo. Had we not been told to expect awesomeness, this would have been a fine taste.

Gif me the jankyness and sluggishness because i didnt know the game went Gold for anyone to he worried about bugs at this stage. Which part of the QTE looked lame ? There was hardly anything shown apart from graphics to make a judgement. They showed they delivered on the visuals while we saw 10 secs of gameplay of 1 street whereas there is the whole section of exploration and destruction not even shown yet

It's in the post

Just because you say no multiplayer and 30fps are bad doesn't mean you speak for everyone. You should know by now, if you've been following it, that there's absolutely no consensus on either of those topics. To label that 'bad news' is stretching it a bit.

Why does it feel like you have some vendetta here?

So where is my cinematic experience here ? all I see is a linear tps with qte and cutscenes, this is what mean cinematic experience for these dev too ? what a mess...
