Rockband >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>GH3.

Whoa, just looked at the Strat and, well, maybe it's not THAT big. But it's definitely bigger and feels more Guitar...y.

Yeah, it's about a half a foot shorter than a real Strat.

WTF is up with people liking the click? It is so annoying to hear every time I play GH3. The GH3 controller is cool though for the replaceable faceplates, detachable neck, and just how solid the strum bar is. The RB controller though has better buttons, the higher frets and a better whammy bar.

The click helps you stay in time. I fucking slam down on that strum bar every single time as hard as I can. It's like a little drum for me.

For alt strumming it's an absolute must, I'd say.

Pretty much. I was surprised by how easier it made it to hold rhythm on some sections of songs that require very fast strumming or have a weird tempo. The Rockband guitar was a lot harder to play these sections with not only because of the click but the strum bar also felt really "loose" for lack of a better term and it was hard for me to tell if I was strumming at all.

Since I bought Rock Band stand-alone I've been using my GH3 Les Paul for the guitar career. Kinda disappointed to see the only wall I ran into was GG&HT (then beating it on my 2nd try.)

I finally got my drums a couple of weeks ago, the bass pedal felt like a PoS until I added 2 rubber stoppers in the middle making it more sturdy.

Also is it me or some songs in RB seems misplaced in the tiers? I find Suffragette City and Electric Version on guitar was under-tier'd and some easier songs were upped.

Electric Version should be in the final tier just because playing through it is an endurance test in just how much you hate life.

Click Strum bar FTW, also I prefer the squishy frets on the LP.

RedOctane should release a Solo Buttons Neck for LPs. Then my Les Paul shall be the ultimate guitar controller. ever. EVER.

-Solo frets
-Squishy frets
-Click Strum
-Select button
-Wireless (360)
-GH2/GH3/RB/GH:A use

Nice.

I'd just like to see a new neck released for GH3. I mean, it's POSSIBLE!

You know it's sitting there in some office desk at RO.

I want one that lights up. Just for the hell of it.

I wish faceplates were easier to get. Other than that fucking Sex Pistols one I see everywhere.

Also whats the deal with Red Octane REFUSING to repair guitars unless theyre still under warranty? I tried to get mine repaired but they said they dont repair them.

A longer neck. That would rock. My shoulders always feel crunched up after longer sessions. Reaching out feels good.

I'd imagine Harmonix would have some sort of patent. Assuming should a patent could be filed.

It would have a hard time because some of the TAC flying V's had the same feature first.

I got a 2 year warranty with Best Buy. Gonna buy a second LP whenever I find one and use my BB warranty for both.

:D

It's bullshit. I remember when GH1 first came out, John Tam put down his phone number on how to contact him and he'd personally fix the guitars.

Wow, you like the RB guitar more than the GH guitar? For me the RB guitar is basically unplayable, I can not keep a good rhythm without the click like the GH guitar has.

That would be because you're natural rhythm isn't very good :p

Both my Xplorers have broken whammy bars. I tried getting them repaired when I contacted Activision to get a new copy of GH2 after my 360 killed my first TWO, they weren't interested.

Yeah fuck em. I miss John Tam and cinder (The two main people on the old Guitar Hero forums).

You don't see me making anti-Rock Band threads though. I'm just trying to bring peace to the NeoGAF music game community. Me and the occasional person that agrees with me need love too!

Even barring that, you're still moving your hand up and down to the rhythm. Maybe people are just too used to "click = rhythm" that they're unwilling to keep time in other ways?

No, it's really not.

I cracked alt-strumming by hitting each side (up and down) with the strum bar. That's how I was able to finally keep good time on the Strat. Exaggerated moves.

i hate the rockband guitar, everytime a faster section comes along i will lose the combo.. and in mine the frets stick too much

only if you have a full band, ghIII guitar playing > rock band guitar playing

In Rock Band, one person can play guitar and sing at the same time.

Rock Band Guitar Playing + Singing > GHIII Guitar Playing

I can only do one thing at once.

Not playing at all > Singing and playing guitar at the same time.

I can't cope with it. It's part of the reason I think I'm going to be so terrible at drums, I just can't do two things at once, unless the rhythm is exactly the same. Something like Welcome Home I just can't cope with. I just about make it through When You Were Young, because the guitar is so simple.

I've done the whole 'Phil Collins' thing with singing into the headset and playing the drums at the same time. It's a hoot, and beatable without great skill (I'm an average singer and below-average drummer). Great fun.

so for those of you doing the singing with a headset, do you turn down the sensitivity or something? I noticed when I tried it that I could only just barely pass songs I 4-5 starred previously and I can't figure out why.

Going dual for instruments is AWESOME and also a trippy way to demonstrate the game to people. Especially ones who think it is for kids or too easy.

I suppose I'm using the SOCOM-less version of the headset that Logitech released, it's $30 at EB. Really helped with Burnout Paradise, even if I'm not the most talkative guy. :)

Guitar Hero 3 is still awesome imo. The guitar clicks are too loud imo, but I just recently went back to playing GH3 after playing Rock Band pretty much exclusively for a month or two. The solid feeling of the Les Paul can't be beat though.

The Strat has so many features and gimmicks that it even manages to make the more boring songs fun, which I think they were going for.

I don't allow myself to buy GH3 DLC because of the whole not allowing the Les Paul Rock Band patch to be released. Am I the only one still angry about that and boycotting? Probably more coincidence than boycotting, but I also haven't purchased any Activision product since that whole thing.

But yeah, I've been Rock Band drumming like a mofo... and Guitar Hero doesn't have that... so RB wins.

For just guitar, GH3 is much more fun. Say what you want about the charts not being as fun, but I'm going to dissagree. The chart for Cherub Rock in GH3 rapes the one in RB. RB edges GH3 out for Reptilia, but that's it. I've never had as much fun playing a guitar song in RB as I had playing Cult of Personality in GH3.

edit: also, I can beat every RB song including DLC on expert guitar consistently, but I still can't beat Through the Fire and Flames and Devil Went Down to Georgia. So, GH3 gives me more room to grow.

edit 2: GH3's vocalist's model is unforgivable and disgusting. If anything made me not play GH3 for a month or more its that.

The only chart Rock Band has an advantage in is When You Were Young. And that's purely because I hate the opening three chords in Guitar Hero 3. Reptilia is so much more fun in GH3

Aw damn. Don't have one. All I have is the 360 headset and a bluetooth headset.
If you are playing on the 360, just plug your regular headset into a controller. I do drums + singing when everyone is asleep in my house (I dare not let others hear my voice).

Reptillia is fucking AWESOME in GHIII, so much fun to play. And you know what? It's a fucking crime you can "only get it in co-op".

Still boycotting but my girlfriend insists on GHIII DLC so... yeah, not buying anything boxed from Activision, but GHIII DLC = my girlfriend playing so... lesser of two evils there :p

You can play Reptilia in quick play after unlocking it. So its not that bad.
