Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

There's only one way to solve this conundrum and that's by giving Smash Wii U a mine cart stage. Spirit Tracks stage, meet your counter-part

Oooo, a mine cart stage would be soooo hype and appropriate to represent the entire DKC franchise, amirite? The only thing though, is please let it be transitional with plenty of solid ground to duke it out on. Would be so hype.

Speaking of games with beautiful background art, any chance we get a Rayman Legends stage at least? I know there is no precedent, but it could happen with Ubi so close to Nintendo.

The environmental art in Tropical Freeze is so good, I'd love a stage set on any of its islands (but especially Autumn Heights).* I know this isn't likely, though, since Smash only sparingly references stuff that came out the same generation as itself. Still, though, TF has some of my favorite environmental art since BioShock Infinite.**

* Note: The DKCTF screens at the link were taken by me, MYE, Xtortionist, EatChildren, Robin64 and others.

** Note: I also have a BioShock Infinite gallery, from my two playthroughs. Songbird for third-party rep!

Hey, you never know. We got a Pikmin 3 & Sonic Lost worlds stage after all. That seems to suggest that he is changing it up a bit as far as how recent the representation can be.

Simple solution -- the Mole Train level from Donkey Kong Country Returns. That's a mine cart level where you have multiple platform-sized carts linking up and breaking apart. Also, the cave world is gorgeous. It'd essentially be like the Spirit Tracks stage in the 3DS version, with the addition of moles popping out of the bananas and throwing pickaxes at you, diamonds crashing from the ceiling, maybe even an appearance by the sonar-emitting Giant Bat. :-)

It could translate between different themed areas with solid ground to stand on, like Delfino Plaza. When the stage coaxes the fighters to the side to reach the next set of minecarts, the giant bat and octopus (sorry, I don't know their names) could become stage hazards and knock out some carts =) As for why the giant bat decided to go after mine carts rather than rockets, I dunno

As for a Rayman stage... Although the recent games have been superb, I just don't see it happening unless Sakurai has kept Rayman's inclusion secret.

Great pics! Tropical Freeze should definitely be represented in some way. Personally I think "Frozen Jungle" is a really strong visual element that would be distinctly Donkey Kong while mixing things up a bit from the typical DK stages.

Both of these sound delicious, so let's combine them, Samurai.

I really hope the silhouette filter is used in some capacity, but I know that is a lot to ask!

Sawmill Thrill: New platforms are cut from logs during the battle, mine carts and sawblades as hazards.

Man, the AC: New Leaf stage was revealed on December 11th and the Find Mii stage on December 3rd and we still haven't seen anything else from them. I hate it when Sakurai leaves us hanging likes this. We haven't seen anything more from the Kid Icarus stage on Wii U too.

Gotta keep some things secret for when the game drops! Although I would love a new trailer to show off some of these stages.

While on the subject of amazing composers, I'd like to say that Yoko Shimomura is my personal favourite =3 However, I can't really think of a good enough reason why her music should show up in smash other than "cuz it's soo gud"

EDIT: Top of the new page? I don't want =(

Shimomura composed the Mario and Luigi series! :3 There is hope yet!

Do you guys think Smash 4 should have mini games ala Pokemon Stadium? I'd think I'd enjoy playing as all the Nintendo characters in a bunch of mini games when I want to take a break from the fighting.

I love this reveal style because as I said last night: it leaves more to the imagination and fuels even more speculation and excitement. We get to fill in the blanks and possibly make dumb avatar bets ;P

I think that Smash couldn't possibly be hurt by more game modes, so if they are done well and are faithful to each series then bring it on.

I wouldn't mind if they brought mini-games back like the Coin Launcher. This was fun for getting trophies.

Melee had the slot machine, Brawl had that table shooter. They'll probably do something unique for each system in obtaining trophies/stickers/whatever is added

no
I do not want another Coin Launcher

Too late, they're bringing it back and using the gyroscope to aim the launcher ;)

Speaking of composers, I personally crave more remixes but from Hideki Naganuma, Masashi Hamausu, and Yoko Shimomura. Moreso Naganuma. I need more funk.

Think Sm4sh will go all out and try to top Brawl's all star remix collection or will it go bare bones like Melee?

All I know is I want lots of Mario Galaxy music and Tropical Freeze, pls sakurai

Coin Launcher is based on arcade games where you use tokens to purchase ammo to fire stuff at enemies to gain score and earn tickets.

We have so many here.

Get me some Michiko Naruke. Her Brawl arrangements were absolutely incredible.

Oh God that OoT Medley is still so good. I just love the power behind it when it goes from Epona's Song through Saria's Song before it calms down and transitions back into the light and almost whimsical sounding version of Zelda's Lullaby. That sequence is just too good.

For the next trophy mini-game, I want something like the Coin Launcher where it provides a fun distraction from the regular game. The problem I had with the Lottery was that it becomes absolutely dead after you get all the collectible trophies (which should take a few weeks), though I recognize the importance of the percentage system. Maybe some sort of middle ground is necessary?

get tha sauce

Here you go. He comments on several other KI:U songs as well.

Edit: Just noticed Sakurai mentioned that part of Magnus's Theme contains a musical segment from the FDS version of Kid Icarus. Anyone know what he's referring to?

Man, why do people knock on her Stickerbrush Symphony arrangement so much? I actually prefer it to the original.

Her version is the superior version. In fact.. I think it is leagues better than David Wise's TF remix of it. I was really really excited to hear it then was very downtrodden after it didn't live up to the brawl version.

I think it comes down to a lot of the bass and "heavier" sound in the original being replaced or reinterpreted with more whispy/airy elements in its composition. Also the tempo was much slower in her reinterpretation. Personally, I like it but it could never replace or be "better than" the original just because of how different it is.

I want to see his DSmash before I get too concerned about it as it was already really strong to begin with. The FSmash may also apply to my wariness.

The FSmash having it's range increased would be bananas. (pun intended) What is his Dsmash again?

If his Bair range is increased then dammit man, we have a problem.

Had a bizarre (and awful) Smash-related dream last night. Dreamt that Pac-Man and Dixie Kong were announced... as pre-order DLC exclusives for specifically the Wii U (Pac-Man) and 3DS (Dixie) versions, and neither would appear in the other version. SmashGAF erupted in anger, vitriol, and hatred like you would not (well, actually, would) believe. Mostly because no one thought Nintendo would go the crappy pre-order exclusive route, but also because SmashGAF hated Pac-Man and was all about Dixie and wanted her in the Wii U version over Pac-Man.

Yeah, it was weird. I was quite happy when I woke up. That's probably the third or so Smash-related dream I've had since its formal unveiling at last year's E3, and it's definitely the weirdest.

That part ain't no dream ;)

Ha, real SmashGAF doesn't dislike Pac-Man as much as the SmashGAF in my dream did. There are a few among us who either like him/want him to be included or don't mind him either way. I'm in the latter camp. I certainly don't dislike him or want him not to be in the game.

I actually think it'd be kinda cool to pit Mario, Mega Man, Sonic, and Pac-Man - the four legacy gaming mascots - against one another!

It was pretty fun early game but once you've got nearly every trophy it was pretty much a hassle.
Agreed. I was super excited about it at first, but by the end I don't think I even bothered getting all the random trophies. Ideally, there could be a coin launcher style mini game, and a Melee style lottery (without the low upper bound on coin input).

You sure that was a dream? Lol

Edit: Also, I'd be cool with Pac-Man, might not use him, but it'd be interesting to see others use him

God damn right it would be and Sakurai will not disappoint us. He will have a fitting aesthetic and moveset when he is revealed to us at E32014

I think most people are indifferent with the thought of Pac-Man being included and just don't want a bad design of Pac-Man to be in the game.

In all seriousness, I don't think there's a particular character that SmashGAF would outright hate. Maybe Goku simply because of how ridiculous the requests for him are and it would just seem stupid. But even then, I would just laugh if he was included
