How could you not want this game after watching this? I'm definately pre-ordering it now.

April can't get here soon enough.

Gamespot had a hands on report of the game last Friday:

The gameplay has shaped up quite well and is pretty much ready to pick up and play. Raz's basic move set is solid and offers just the right amount of responsiveness. His moves will increase considerably over the course of the game, as you gain new psi powers and upgrade his existing ones. The jumping and swinging also work pretty well. Raz is no Prince of Persia, but he gets by OK.

While we just played a tiny bit of the whole Psychonaut experience, we have to say we're digging what we've seen so far. The game is shaping up to offer a fun, accessible platforming experience, which has been conveniently missing on the Xbox. If you factor in the game's style and humor, we have a feeling the Xbox's platforming void will be a lot closer to being filled when Psychonauts hits this April.

Drugs or not, the cut scenes in this game have been a cut above the genre. Really looking forward to it. Felt like a Tim Burton movie.

I will not buy a platformer based on an intro movie, that's why.

Well how about after seeing tons of screens, many gameplay videos, and recent positive hands on impressions? The humor displayed in Psychonaut's cut scenes seals the deal for me.

Tim Schafer was on Gamespot's On The Spot the other day showing it off. During the end of the show when Ryan Davis or whatever his name is was doing the closing monologue while throwing out the usual crazy hand gestures while talking thing, Tim kind of looked over at him and threw out a few hand signs too. It was hilarious. :lol

They need to cut that guy's hands off. All those fucking hand gestures annoy the living shit out of me. You'd think someone would have the balls to go up and tell him that he looks like a damn retard when he does that shit.

Wow, that is just amazing. I have always loved Schafer's sense of humor and it translates very well into his games. This is getting pre-ordered today.

www.psychonauts.com has had some pretty big updates..

There are now many more sections, including head-games, dirty little secrets, arrested development (which has psychonauts comics), psychic links, among others..

There are also 4 new wallpapers, a screensaver and the intro (in hi/low versions for quicktime and wmp) on the gray matter page.

Demos for all three versions are coming. From the newsletter:

Now that we have your attention, we confess this is only a tease of news to come. In due time we will be showering you with demos—Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC playables are being coded in the secret Double Fine and Budcat workshops as you read this. It’s safe to say this demo will BLOW YOUR MIND so kindly collect your thoughts now before you put yourself in real jeopardy….

Great art + weak gameplay = no buy.

Oh give me a fucking break. Are you going to break out that same shit everytime a Psychonauts thread is made? Oxy's comments about the gameplay were made a year ago and there's been positive impressions since. Hell, just read the Gamespot update from last Friday.

BTW this isn't an Xbox exclusive game Duckhuntdog so you're not required to troll. Just let it fuckin' slide.

Shane Kim isn't Ed Fries when it comes to seeing great development but he makes excellent business decisions.

It doesn't really matter how many copies the game sells. Microsoft really needs to expand its name as a games brand and by dropping such original titles like Stranger, Phantom Dust, and now this, they are really giving every independent developer out there a horrible impression. This is only going to come back and bite them in the ass.

Would you care to back it up?

Can you provide references to where independent developers were talking about how MS dropping Tork, Stranger and Psychonauts affects their interest in making games for the system?

No, a developer would not say that if they had a publisher but if a small developer was looking to join the ranks of Microsoft Game Studios, they might think twice about working with them considering the track record. MGS needs to be willing to take risks.

MS is in the game for money. Just like Sony, Nintendo and everyone else. If MS thinks it ain't worth it for them then, well, it ain't worth it for them :)

54 megs, WTF? This better be the greatest game video I've ever fucking seen.

Link says I'm validated for 5 mins. Download says 6 mins remain... hope I can get the whole thing.

wasnt that someone else who said the gameplay was weak?

/me confused.

Anyway i agree i cant see this game selling that well, even if its awesome, its just not what people are buying, and Majescos 'wait and see how it sells before we promote it' policy just doesnt sound like a winner to me.

And i dont see how Double Fine, Oddworld Inhabitants and others can be mad when MS have sunk $$$$$$$$$'s into the games, waited 4 years (in double fines case), and even sent the game back on more than one occasion rather than make them push on and release something flawed, all with no reprisal other than "sorry we dont want to throw money at you any more, please find someone else to publish your game". I mean they could have pushed to keep the rights to the games and make the developers start over, or any number of other things to totally cripple any of these companies (especially a fledgling like Double Fine).

I tend to avoid the sales arguments around here because I think they're mostly pointless, but with that being said I believe MS did Double Fine a favor by letting them find another publisher. While the marketing dollars won't be there for them like they would if they were still with MS, at least they'll be bringing it to a larger audience by releasing it on the PS2 and PC. This game would die miserably if it were just on the Xbox.

I hope it does well, but not for some asinine system loyalty many have around here. I just want it to sell because I respect Tim Schaffer and have loved his games and Psychonauts is looking like another great, wildly creative title. I don't give a rats ass if the PS2 version outsells the Xbox one or if the PC version beats them all and I'm not expecting this to sell like gangbusters either, I just want someone besides myself to buy it.

Don't mind him. Bitwise is a master at what he does, requiring only a few keystrokes to contribute to conversations:

This looked fantastic from the day one. I don't think I was ever able to come to terms of why it shouldn't play as good as it looks, no matter how much convincing there was form Oxy.

IGN just posted a hands on with the game:

Microsoft dropped this game? They must be crazy.

Tim Schafer -- the man who brought innovative PC titles Full Throttle and Grim Fandango to the world while at LucasArts -- is finally back in action with Psychonauts. The title, which was dropped by Microsoft a year ago, is set to hit store shelves in late April for PS2, Xbox, and PC. Majesco has made one of its wisest moves in signing Psychonauts for publication. For a company that needs a few high-quality titles under its belt, Majesco could not have made a better choice. Though I was only given a one-level demo to kick around, I'm confident that Psychonauts is the real deal.

Psychonauts is the type of 3D platformer I've been waiting for. It's smarter than the likes of Crash Bandicoot, more inventive than most E-rated action games, and it's funny. My only complaint is that, having made us wait so long for Psychonauts, Majesco only sent a one-level demo. Do I really have to wait even longer to play the full version of this potential masterpiece?

Sounds great.
