Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I'm sure Sonic's FS has been rough on all of us. Almost Impossible not to be killed by that fucker. Too easy to control, too much knockback and the duration is far too long :(

Oh man! See, I have a ton of trouble with Sonic and Pikachu's final smashes (they're basically the same, if I remember correctly...?) I think people who can control him well enough totally deserve to kill everyone.

What do you guys make of this image? In the first 3 Smash titles Donkey Kong has NO mid air special attack. I suppose the reasoning was that he can't ground slap in mid air. Way back when this was revealed I just thought it was DK's down throw. But when I compared this image to the Melee and Brawl down throw this is nothing like those in any frame. I think DK has finally been given a mid air down special, a big single hand slap to the ground. I suppose this would give him a 4th meteor smash.

Please give me your thoughts as confirm my hopes that DK is just a little more interesting this time around.

I am aware, however Kid Icarus also relied quite a bit on having custom loadouts acquired through the story mode. It's a very different situation here.
Remember when Sakurai said there will be some customizable aspect of the new Smash Bros., and having a 3DS version is perfect because every player will have their own copy of the game?

Yeah. I wouldn't expect Download Play. Would be a nice surprise if they did add it, though.

I know it would be a lot of work but you should link to the images so people can easily click and catch up on things they missed

Red, I'm willing to help out if you need my help.

Nice Catch! I thought it was down throw as well. Yeah, he was kinda too high in the air to be a grab move.

Actually that would be very interesting to see where they would go with it if they decide to add new aerial special attacks for characters whom can't use in the air. Like Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, Captain Olimar.

...oh shit. Good eye.

The funny thing is I was definitely wondering why DK didn't get a Hand Slap buff that would let him fall right out of the air into a more powerful ground slap attack a few weeks ago. It'd be like the descending part of Ganondorf's Flame Choke when you use it in the air but with a bigger tremor on impact.

I always glanced at this thinking he was just hand slapping away but if that were the case then he'd be getting some pretty good air of each ground pound.
Yeah I'm not entirely sure what this is, the move is only striking on Luigi's side while Mario taunts away in relative safety.
A short projectile like version of handslap from mid air sending out a sound wave or something (like Jungle Beat) is a possibility though I'm not sure that's the case either, that said the original Sakurai comment with this pic was about DK currently being super strong so maybe it's a new trick of his that boosts his offensive options in a notable way.

You mentioned Jungle Beat and now I'm here eternally sad faced because I will never use stretchy arms to snatch fools out of the air then violently pummel them to a beat of my own creation.

JB Donkey Kong would be sogood.gif in Smash.

Maybe it's just me, but the angle of the camera on this stage looks really really weird.
The angle makes much more sense when you recall the rolling world visual style of the AC series since Wild World, it's more noticeable here than in Brawl's Smashville since you're actually on the ground itself this time.

If only the grab strikes were more like DK wailing on one of those bloated hog things, just a rapid flurry of powerful strikes.

Looking at it....yeah he is a bit too high for that to be a down throw. Anyone got the comment or a link to that fake smash site?

That makes sense. The nuance of the camera is just one of those small details that's a little surprising when you look at it.

I immediately made the assumption it could not. At best it'd be limited stages and limited roster, but i'm assuming it's just not going to have it at all.

I wonder what Mega Man's and Sonic's stages are going to be on the 3DS? I dunno, I was just thinking about it. They both have virtual shop titles on the system I guess.
Mega Man can use the 3DS Virtual Console excuse, & it probably will if it sticks to Classic Mega Man stages.

Sonic has had many portable adventures. I'm guessing they'll pull from Lost World since it was also on the 3DS, but Colors DS, the Advance games, 1-3&K, the Rush games, anything in Generations 3DS, and a few others are fair game.

I don't think that is the actual angle of the stage. I think the actual angle of the stage will be closer to the second pic and Sakurai just zoomed out and angled the pic so we could see the whole island.

Clean, but as usual with multi-pic days, only the first:

Fortunately, Sonic can swim in Smash Bros., somewhat arbitrarily. (Not for long, but he can.)

Also Charizard, who would apparently die if his tail flame was doused, can swim in Brawl with nary an issue.

I think you mean 64. Melee was the last Smash game for a long period of time; 2001 to 2008. 64, meanwhile, came out 1999 and had Melee to follow it up as soon as 2001.

squirtle can swim really well in the water, however he can still drown! however sakurai made sure any pikmin that isnt blue pikmin will instantly drown in water.

I like the idea behind the randomized stage, but if swimming is still a thing in this that looks like a pretty terrible stage to actually fight on.

N...no. It was already way too much work to compile the reveals in the first place. :s
If people want to catch up on stuff they can easily go to the Smash Miiverse gallery that is linked in the OP and see everything there. It has categories for characters, items, stages, all of which are spread out for console/item type (ATs have their own sub category). It's significantly easier to find images that way, and it also saves me several hours of work.

Smash Bros. will have 30 or 40-ish playable characters and multiple stages. It's not gonna have download play.

Oh, and I'm gonna switch back to my normal avatar, so my current Neorice avatar is going back up for grabs, if anyone wants it.

So is there going to be a Smashville type stage in the 3DS version? Or will it just be the island from today's pic?

The Island is a stage for us to battling on.

Which avatar is that?

I would love air grabs being a new mechanic. It was always so satisfying to land one with Lucario and with Ganondorf's increased speed and damage in Project M, his aerial force choke slam was one of my moves used for approach. Maybe Air Grabs would add some balance with the new recovery mechanics that were mentioned briefly?

Probably just a new animation for the down throw. They've redone several moves for veterans.

Had a dream I was in Smash Bros. there was a weakness strength mechanic in the game where certain character were good against other in terms of how much damage they could do to them. I was apparently strong against Sonic because of my hatred of his new designs and downfall. I was able to KO him with forward tilts and Smashes no matter what damage percentage he was at. I also had some kind of hatred outburst that blew him out of his final smash and auto killed him.

Aaaaand the proliferation of these kind of posts specifically mark the moment when the release of a new Smash is overdue. I can't wait!

Maybe the DK picture is:

Grab > Forward Throw > Jump > Down+A

I don't think that exists in the other games, but they might have added more shoulder throw options.

So? If that's a problem, create a compacted version of the experience for download play, with fewer characters and stages to choose from. Alternatively, have the primary 3DS choose which characters and stages are to be used in advance and send just the needed data to the recipient systems.

There are multiple solutions, all far preferable to not having download play.

I'm probably gonna look like an idiot while asking this, but what is online play?

Edit: And now even a bigger idiot. I meant download play.

Should have kept the post how it was as it was nearly stupid enough to be tag worthy

DS and 3DS games sometimes implement a feature where another player does not need a copy of the game to play. It was more common with DS games.

The first solution is the only one I can reasonably expect outside of no download play.

I wouldn't expect this game to have download play, but if it does, even if you have all characters unlocked, the person thats downloading would probably only have a choice between maybe 5 starting characters. Hasnt it always been like that? Well except for Mario hoops.

I can't imagine I'll ever use Download Play. Has been slow and shitty in every game I've used it so far. Either all of my friends with a 3DS will have to buy the game (lol, as if) or we'll just play the WiiU version.

An idea for Download Play:

1. Connect to players
2. Host 3DS player selects which stage & characters everyone will play (The other players can obviously tell him which to pick)
3. Then DP downloads only the selected choices to the other players.

Wouldn't that work?
