Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I want to feel this way about using the Gamepad, but for some unpinnable reason I just have my doubts about it being one of the better ways to play. I think it may stem from my experience with shooters on the Wii U; I feel ham-handed in those on the Gamepad. I really would like to try the Pro controller for Smash.

just use the Pro controller man, I'm sure it'd control better than the Gamepad for games like Smash

I was actually referring to Rosalina.
Huh.

  • Lightning (Square Enix): The original. Debuts as hated character in hated game. Put in several other games after her debut as both a main character and an extra. Stoic female character. Fans hate her. Toriyama has creepy feelings for her.
  • Rosalina (Nintendo): Debuts as popular character in beloved game. Put in several other games after her debut as both a main character and an extra. Stoic female character. Fans like her.
  • Cynthia (Gamefreak): Debuts as extremely popular character for a meh game (Before it got the Platinum upgrade). Put in several other games after her debut as a bonus boss. Stoic female character. Fans love her. Masuda apparently has creepy feelings for her.

I never understood Cynthia's popularity. She doesn't seem to standout in any way other than being the first female champion.

She's also easily the most difficult champion in the series, though that's not saying much.

Just play with both and choose the one your either most comfortable with or you feel controls better. They are basically the same thing except one had a screen in the middle.

*only female champion

I refuse to acknowledge Iris or Diantha as legitimate, the former because she's not the champ in the first games (applies to Wallace), the latter because she sucks

I'm not the poster you quoted so I can't say exactly was meant by that, but I would think of it as just slowing down and choosing more basic options. Like, maybe don't worry too much about approaching or comboing, just focus on certain aspects at a time. Maybe just try to respond to their approaches instead of approaching them, and then just focusing on getting the edge guard every time instead of going for fancy gimps.

To take that even further, I kinda liked the idea Wobbles wrote about here. Basically just try one move or strategy for matches at a time, just to get a thorough understanding of everything about it. Starting with something like that that's almost sub fundamental, and just building a strong understanding from there.

Anyway, I get that sort of experience in other fighters all the time, where I'm more focused on trying to learn my combos or do certain moves, and the other uneducated heathen just punches me when I'm busy trying to play. The way to get around that issue is just to practice a lot. Control of your character and tech stuff should be unconscious. Even if you mess up the techniques every time, keep going for them in real matches. It'll click after a while.

Thanks, man..

I especially like the part about what wobbles said as well as your closing paragraph. I will try to do my due diligence next time I play so can make the meta an unconscious effort.

Wii pro video is very reassuring. I admit the thought of playing without a Gamecube controller has made me leery about buying a Wii U for Smash for.

Using overdesigned trash is a negative ;)
Oh come on, Garchomp is a badass fighter jet dragon shark. Kids love it.

On a related note, Garchomp should be a Pokeball Pokemon.

It really is a great controller.

Okay, it's Monday again, are we going to guess that Yoshi is coming back this week (again)?

He's not going to come back this week

I'm jinxing it so he will be revealed this week.

Cynthia is probably second place for Pokemon Character with the weirdest fanbase.

Misty's first, no doubt in my mind. I've never met a self-identified Misty fan who wasn't a completely awkward man stuck in the 90s.

Yeah, I think the overexposure is the big factor here. I don't think that many people hated Lightning until they started shoving her into every fucking game Square was making and promoting here front and center in most of those. Rosalina's overexposure levels aren't anywhere near that bad
yet
, but you can tell that some fans are getting a little annoyed by her constant presence, and feel that she's stealing the spotlight from other,
what they feel are
more deserving characters (look at her revel thread and see how many people bitched that she got in over Daisy), and, if they keep it up, it'll only be a matter of time before she starts getting full blown John Cena Heat.

everyone hates Daisy fans
if Daisy fans are mad about Rosalina, that can only help her popularity

whoa you calling Werster "a completely awkward man stuck in the 90s"?

Daisy has technically always been in smash since melee, and with sakurai willing to have male and female alts, it might not even be much trouble to get her VA to do a few lines for her alt on peach.

speaking of alts I really hope sakurai makes a female pokemon trainer, it doesnt even have to be green/leaf/blue

Speaking of controllers...

Would be awesome if they released an all black game cube controller for wii U and then announced game cube games on virtual console...

...I can dream

Gamecube games aren't possible on Virtual Console until they release a classic controller with analog triggers.

So they should release a classic controller with analog triggers that is compatible with Smash 4. Preferably, something identical to the Gamecube controller in every way.

People like Misty?

Well, there was this cartoon...

Or they could just tell everyone to use the original Classic Controller.
