Oddworld: New n Tasty priced at $30 (250,000 sales for Exodus remake greenlight)

The original Abe titles are on PSN for $6. Give em a shot. Munch went on PS+ a while back

Honestly I recently went back to play the original abe title and its aged pretty bad. Very stiff controls and slow pace and the graphics aren't amazing like they used to be. The first game really needs this remake.

Or $2.50 any day on steam because I don't have a playstation anymore, or even less on sales, or free because I have steam wallet from selling cards.

However, I'm not sold on trying them...

Hey people game development is expensive. Quit being surprised by this. its an art house game at an art house price. If you think its too expensive wait for a steam sale. Personally I am excited for it.

you seriously calling oddworld art house??????????????

That's more than I was expecting. Not sure if I'll buy it at that price. To put it in perspective Rayman legends was only $10 more on day one.

I remember how these little games started out being 4.99, then 9.99, then 14.99, now there's a company attempting that 30.

it's just way to high.

Putting aside the problems with the earlier release, what do you expect?

Do all digital titles have to be cheap and short?

Yes?

$5 million to build this is a joke. $2 million seems more accurate and yet still a bad joke.

$20 is reasonable, $30 is just no territory. This is a price that says "wait for this game to be $3 on steam."

Hyperbole much?

Even if it is 2D, its one of the highest production value 2D games out there. The closest analogue I can think of is Broken Age. They made what, 3.3 million? They needed more funding than that, and the game was split up.

Have you seen the final game? How do you what has actually been 'built'? And therefore, how can you pass judgement on how much it should've cost?

This kind of thing gets said a lot, but I truly believe Oddworld is one of the most underrated series of all times.

Even the "off" games like Munch were still great and really interesting. Controls took some getting used to and lacked some precision, but it was still far and away the best of the original Xbox launch games. Stranger's Wraith is a brilliant game that seemingly nobody played.

Yes, it is, and yet even the most cynical of publishers doesn't gouge like this on remakes - all of Square Enix's HD sets have been $40 for 2 games (and the Kingdom Hearts ones include extra cutscenes made for those releases; among other things that are expensive like new va for new scenes).

I'm not against $30 or even $40 for a cool, solid title. It doesn't even have to be a long game. In fact, I've argued in favor of exactly this publicly and privately before. But in a universe where I can pay $40 for the aforementioned remake sets, and where I can pay $10-$15 for basically every notable original digital game of the last few years, most of which are more interesting to me on a mechanical and/or narrative level than this; several of them are looking at the same level of work... It's trapped in an uncomfortable space between the two. You really think this game should cost that much more than, say, Child of Light?

The price doesn't stand up to scrutiny, so I'm left to wonder what the justification is; all I can settle on is by announcing how many he needs to sell to find further games Lanning is deliberately dangling potentially empty promises in front of proclaimed fans to help them swallow what he knows is an extortionate price. He also knows he doesn't have to provide sales figures so there is literally no accountability here. Yet another reason why I absolutely would not buy this for anything approaching $30.

The quality of CG cut-scene is top tier of that time, up there with Blizzard and Square.

It's so pretty...

I'm okay with the price. The visual upgrade looks significant, and JAW have proven their competency with the ports of Stranger's Wrath. The Vita port was particularly great, and earned a permanent spot on my memory card.

Insta-buy... never finished any of the OW games.

I think I finished all of them but I"m not sure on Exodus. I know I beat all the others. But really that was so, so long ago that they might as well be brand new levels as far as I'm concerned. Hell, I probably won't really know what they changed and what they kept the same.

I didn't like Stranger's Wrath and that was my first Oddsworld game. Will this game be fun? I like 2D/3D platformers.

Strangers Wraith is definitely the one game in the bunch that is radicallhy different than the others.

If you like puzzle platformers like Out of this World, Braid, Flashback, you'll love it. It's absololutely one of the best games in that genre with an absolutely endearing lead character and story in a way no other game in that genre has.

Those were HD remasters done by a team of a few people. It was not a lot of effort from Square. The 'extra cutscenes' were just up-res'd in-engine cutscenes, they weren't producing lavish new CG affairs. They were barely any new assets. Horrible comparison. If you wanted a more accurate comparison, you could've at least mentioned the iOS remakes which actually change the graphics ($16 on iOS which is considered very expensive). To be even more specific, the FFIV Complete Collection on PSP with new assets was $30 on release. This is all new assets and altered gameplay, it's more effort than any of the HD remasters, significantly so.

So it has less to do with Oddworld actually being worth that price, you just don't like it. Oddworld was a critically acclaimed, cool, solid title when it released at $50 in 1997 (adjust for inflation: $70). No point bringing up Child of Light because it hasn't released yet and we don't know a lot, so judging it's value and whether it's a cool, solid title isn't a good idea. We do have a solid idea of the content in this game though. This is a cool, solid title.

The price doesn't stand up to your scrutiny. If you don't like, you can still get the original for under $10.

JAW have been very good with PS+ in the past. Wouldn't be surprised if this launches with a discount for Plus members. Their games are regularly in Steam and PSN sales. If anyone doesn't want to spend $30 they should easily be able to get it for less if they wait a short while. Day one for me though. Looks amazing.

Played Braid, I liked it but didn't with those other two. I'm assuming the other two are on PC? Otherwise I'd give them a go a Vita or something.

Not a big fan of puzzles, but as long as it's not pure 100% puzzle, it should be fine. I really liked Puzzle Quest for example. I wonder how much it is on Australia.

Stranger's Wrath is nothing like the other games in the series, but it's so damn fun. What didn't you like about it?
It was a few years ago. I'm not sure to be honest. Luckily it was included on PS+ for the Vita version a few months ago so I'll give it another shot once my backlog is finished.

It's a good mix between puzzle and platforming action with bunch of secrets.
It can be challenging if you want to save all slave but you can ignore them and still clear the stage. It got lots of charm. Go check some gameplay on youtube
