I'm going to ask what might be a really stupid question... but I'm confused.

Are chest and items supposed to... "respawn"? I continued my game today, and realized there were items lying around (the usual nameless soldier souls and the like) that I know I already took... and then I noticed all the chests I already opened were closed again, and have their items again too.
I haven't used any "Bonfire Ascetic" or whatever, I don't even have one of those. I don't even know if those make the chest respawn too or just the enemies, but just in case.

The torches I lighted are also out now again, if that matters, that's the first thing I noticed but I don't know, maybe those last a set time? I started paying yesterday :P
But the thing with the chests... I don't think that's supposed to happen, is it? Has my map just... reset, or is this normal and I'm being a noob?

chest and items don't respawn normally. no idea what's going on in your game.

Ahhahaah I get too greedy!

Boss spoiler N
ashandra I was basically clearing out a few of those "curse clouds" to create a safe zone, then wait until she does the beam attack, run up to her and swing once or twice run out. Repeat. She had a pixel of life left, instead of running out and waiting until another beam attack, I swing a second time... a millisecond before my +10 greatsword hits her, she does the overhead attack with a scythe that instakills me from 75% HP. Ouch.

idk if it's been explained but what's the story lore wise of what No Man's Wharf is about? That's probably the most interesting area to me since a
pirate cove
feels out of place in a Souls game

Obviously no one is an expert yet but I think No Man's Wharf is supposed to be
some kind of penal camp / prison area. From the Varangian Sword
description....

A former king launched a campaign to
capture these terrors of the high seas,
but rather than imprison them, forced
them into hard labor at No-man's Wharf.

With
Flexile sentry being some kind of usher of the punished to / from Lost Bastille,
hence the description on his soul items...

Long ago, the dungeons overflowed with the accursed, and the King commanded a contorted sentry to deliver those who had no cells to a faraway land, and to make certain they were never heard from again.

Edit: I should learn to read I guess... >.<

Does anyone know how to get that bonfire in the room next to
Ornifax in that sand place he resides at?

Is there anything important/really handy in The Gutter or Black Gulch?

I have very little inclination to go back and thoroughly hunt through through those places without a big incentive

Did anyone experience a glitch where their character had a sex change. I originally created a male character and about 15 hours in I noticed he started grunting like a woman. Sure enough I took off my hat and my character was a woman. At first I thought I was just crazy and had accidentally created a female character without realizing it, but 10 hours later she changed back into a he.

It's the coffin in Things Betwixt. It'll change your gender

It's not a glitch.
There's a coffin in the tutorial area that changes your sex. Just use it again.

I don't know of you dropped to the ledges in Black Gulch and got the
Forgotten
key off of the
two giants
yet, but that opens a door in Gulch that leads to
Wheelchair wizard / Pilgrims of Dark Covenant,
as well as another door in The Gutter with
Havels Armor and shield in it
.

Oooh I think I know where that door in The Gutter is. Thanks.

When you use a soul vessel, do you lose all your levels? Or how does it work? I'm level 154, and i want to level up my Intelligence some, because i have no chance to do PvP if i meet someone who has magic spells.

Questions about Milfanito.
So, after beating the Demon of Song on my first try with a summon who died as soon as the demon blinked (I know right, I'm a total badass) I went back to Drangleic Castle to free one of the sisters. Then I returned to Shrine of Amana via the elevator from Undead Crypt, turned left, proceeded up some tower and eventually found a Milfanito sister. But she's not the one I freed apparently. Is the one I freed hanging out in Amana somewhere and is there any point to finding her? I really hate traversing that area.
Also what was the deal with that one lady before the boss fog who seemed a bit more tattered?

This is probably just me, but I appreciate how drab some of the areas look. I was thinking of giving King's Field a shot because of the environments but won't have to because somehow some of that atmosphere is here, in some places. I don't mean it in a bad way at all.

There are
some zip lines shortly after the chapel bonfire
. I didn't notice them at first, either.

Oh thanks, didn't even see the second one.

Problem though, I lite the bonfire and now when I try to use it to rest, it says "Cannot use bonfire" anyone ever see this before?

If you speak to a certain early-game NPC you get to reallocate all your soul points.

Summoning seems to take longer now. Either people are getting better or maybe there's just more summon signs around. Best way to grind souls but I wish I got summoned faster.

I had the same problem too.
Killing a spider just outside the door fixed it.

I actually missed it too lol. I looked up how to get it after the fight.

Thanks, that worked.

Do you know how many times I have to burn something at that fire for the boss to return to the level so I can get that
soul for the Moonlight great sword?

Royal Rat Authority would be a good name for a punk band.

I used that boss to farm some Pharros Lockstone.. Just used a quick and powerful weapon to kill the first 4 rats quickly with a covetous gold serpent ring and purposely died to the boss at the door.. Good way to farm some souls also.. And it's even easier if you are in the rat covenant..

I must say, The Shaded Woods is pretty damn awesome. Love the atmosphere of this place.

Agree. I love how atmospheric it is without relying on darkness or poison pools or skeletons. Just an enveloping mist that makes every move treacherous. Also the perfect size. I wouldn't have wanted it to go on and on.

OK, thanks for the replies. I now have an idea about how to get more Effigys because I've been stuck with only 1 or 2 for a long time and was worried of being stuck in a difficult area with only half of my health bar.

Also I'm currently above a 100 Soul level, is it necessary to go any higher? I'm having difficulty tackling a few of the bosses (
Royal Rat Authority, Smelter Demon
)but at this point I think gear might make the greater difference than level.

If you
summon the NPC for smelter demon and can unload enough dps while he tanks, the boss shouldn't be too bad

As for
Royal rat Authority, kill the first four rats ASAP right as he comes down and basically go under him like Sif in Dark Souls

God, the auto-invade/auto-summon areas are such bullshit and annoying as hell. I'm in the pharros place and it's nonstop "Summoning as a grey invader." If I wanted to do PVP, I would do it myself, thanks game. -_- At the very least, you don't lose humanity or souls when you die. But what's really annoying is how it isn't just a 1v1 thing. Oh no, it's a 1 person + as many enemies as they can round up thing.

Speaking of this area, are there any useful pharros stones? I really don't want to waste them on stupid drops.

Thanks :) I've spoken to her earlier, but i didnt dare to use a Soul Vessel then hehe. So i dont lose anything, just give the Soul Vessel and i can freely re-arrange my 154 soul levels?

Yep.

Anyone know where the estus shard in
Drangleic Castle
is? Last one I need.

Just join the Rat Covenant from the previous rat place and you won't have to pvp or even deal with mobs.. You can still fight the boss though..

Beat (early boss)
Dragonrider, w/o making him fall off
in one go. :\ This game is much easier than DS1 I feel. As there's no invincible roll they've made it so enemies and bosses are more based around circling.

Agreed completely. It's the best way to do a sequel: expand the content significantly, but still have a few things that are throwbacks to the previous games. I'd say the (great soul boss)
Rotten
is more reminiscent of the
Leechmonger or Dirty Colossus
from Demon's Souls, though, than the 2-1 boss (which was the Armour Spider).
.

Actually, I meant to say 4-1, he's sort of a mix of the
Adjudicator & Leech Monger
---- The 2-1 boss was way off ;).

Visually, a bit like 5-1, attack wise a little closer to 4-1.

The locks in that area activate traps for the grey phantoms. If you're not planning on camping there as a member of the rats there's no reason to activate them.
