Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Oh, I see. Well, I really like the sense of comradery in the Souls games ('facing a harsh unforgiving world together', that sort of soapy themes) so I felt like I sold my soul a little killing people for personal gain.

My favourite times are being summoned into a game to help someone who is facing an invader. I think I may join the Blue Sentinels eventually so that it happens w/o having to write my sigil down. There's a certain sense of satisfaction in helping someone banish one of those red invaders! :P

Dumb question: how do I equip torches? I dont see em anywhere on the menus :(

They're not equipped, you just have them in your possession and then light them at bonfires or sconces.

I immediately enrolled in the covenant, but never got summoned! I guess I'll join the sunbros instead.

But how do I select to light them? Is it an option available on the bonfire? I dont see anything like that.

PRAISE THE SUN! Finally beat the Smelter Demon!

I've been sunbroing the fight for the last few hours helping others beat him, but I couldn't seem to crack him in my own world.
I know his patterns so well now that I could probably solo the fight without healing. It's just a matter of dodging to the left of the first swing in his combo, right of his thrust and backing away from is AoE attack.

Good luck to those yet to beat him.

Just saw that this sold around 260,000 copies in Japan in its first week. I bet North America will be at least double that. Have Namco released any PR about its sales yet?

I'm a sunbro right now as well. I think you have to be wearing the Blue Sentinel ring all the time to qualify for summoning. That's a drawback, I guess, as I have 4 useful rings being used right now.

I think I've screwed my game. My life is just about half way as I've been trying to beat those darn
Gargoyles
I've used up all my effigies I found or bought from the travelling merchant... Lost them too because I kept getting invaded in the
Bellfry Luna.

Can I farm/buy any more?

Yes you can but there is also a ring you can get that
keeps you at 75% of total health when hollowed. You can find it to the right of the drawbridge outside the citadel of blue. Ring of Binding

Only just now reached I
ron
K
eep and attained the ability to infuse weapons. I was thinking of using magic on the Uchigatana I just bought, but I don't really understand what effect it has. It shows no stat changes whatsoever, except for the str/dex scaling getting worse? Uh...

Edit: Speaking of this area (ish), why is it when I
travel back to Lost Bastille I can summon help? I did it for a laugh earlier assuming the Ruin Sentinels fucking respawn, jumped through the mist, and my two guys just disappeared.
Sup with that?

Why is it nonsense?

Not sure if I'd call it nonsense, but I don't like that design decision at all. Regaining humanity was a huge incentive helping other players out with bosses in the previous games. Wasn't beating bosses the only way to go back to being human in Demon's Souls? It's been a while...

It also sucks, because if human effigies are the only way to go back to being human, it puts a finite limit on the number of times you can go back to being human.

I may just not know of other ways to regain humanity, so correct me if I'm wrong.

There's a late-ish game thing where you can
turn human for free, so long as you don't have any effigies at all in your inventory or storage box.

Gargoyles fight
was so fucking stupid. I really hate that design philosophy. Something that is just mean to be random and protracted for no good reason.

I feel like this level is almost brilliant but is missing something. As you go though lighting torches and bonfires, the ambiance definitely improves and I like the color scheme of blue-black night, white stone and orange fire. I feel like there should have been an additional goal:

My problem is that about 90% of the pre release streams I watched were all taking place in that area, so to me it's just like, "Again? Really? Ugh." Suppose that's what I get for looking ahead.

Playing through NG+, and I am pretty disappointed. I don't think its that much harder than the base game, some of the additions are nice though. The Sun Sword +10 with 40 STR/DEX is an absolute beast, that might have something to do with it.

Did you summon shades or phantoms? Shade summoning signs still show up after the boss is dead, and they're sent home if you re-enter the boss area. Phantom signs aren't supposed to keep showing up, but there've been a few times I've seen some lying around in areas I've already cleared, so it seems like it glitches out on occasion.

How does respeccing with the Soul Vessel work? You just get a massive dump of souls to re-allocate?

You just have to follow one simple rule against him:
Never block, always roll.

Both phantoms. Gray fog appeared and everything.

Two questions about unreachable items.

1) In Lost Bastille, after you go up the stairs outside of the wall that explodes, if you look up and to the left, there is an item on a corpse REALLY high up. How do you get to that?

2) After you kill the scorpion boss (forgot her name), there is a tree with a corpse at the top of the tree. How do you get to that?

Someone answered #2, but anyone know about #1?

Also, another question. Is there any vendor that sells unlimited ranged projectiles?

What is the consensus on this game? Better or worse than Dark Souls 1 overall? (I don't have it yet) :o

For some it's the same, for some it's worse. I like it the same, having played Dark Souls 1 for 90+ hours. Maybe even a bit more. There's probably twice as many bosses in DS2 as DS1. The amount of content and areas is massive. The graphical changes that people are throwing a fit about detract from my enjoyment of the game at a level roughly equal to 0.

So, found a pretty cool bow in No-Man's Wharf.
A pirate dropped the Sea Bow, which scales with strength. Upgraded a bit and it's not bad, especially for a STR build that only occasionally needs a bow. Something like 80-100 damage with cheap-ass wood arrows. I've never seen anyone else mention this bow.

Wow, I can't believe I missed the path to Huntsman's Copse and other areas this whole time. The way you "unlock" that path is kind of stupid imo. I'm way too strong for these areas, but it feels nice to shred through enemies and destroy bosses
(Skeleton Lords and Chariot)
on the first try.

:O there are TWO
bows that scale with strength?
Crazy.

I used it for a while since it has a greater range but since I'm a dex user it wasn't the best fit for me.

I just got ganged up on by two guys in the
Bell Tower
covenant. One of them was kind enough to wait to the side while the first and I did battle. Well I went to bow to the first guy and he lunged, fucker. I prefer a sense of "honor" in the games - don't attack someone who is bowing shouldn't go without saying. All the same I backrolled and wiped out half his health, then a summon popped up and we wiped them out, followed by the gargoyles. Thank you reigel85, whoever you might be.

I've noticed that katana in this game is utter garbage compared to other str weapons, since they nerfed the hell out of katana's speed. The greatsword has about same swing time as katana and it has longer reach.

I prefer halberd over katana in this game. So much better and the range is just amazing. Plus BKH scales with dex, so superior compared to katanas.

Did the exact same thing. I think I was like 85-90 before I got there.

I feel that bowing should be reserved for duels. If I get invaded I'm probably going to bum rush the dude. If I'm the one doing the invasion I'm definitely hunting the guy down.

So it wasn't just my imagination.
