So putting about 8 hours into this game I have been a little skeptical, but working my through
No Man's Wharf
and this game is growing on me a lot.

Question: I am 20 dex and 11 Str. and I want to either dual wield 2 scimitars or 2 falchions or a mixture of both. Are falchions a lot better than scimitars? Should I pump up my strength a few pts. to power stance falchions or 4 more pts. in dexterity to power stance scimitars?? My character is end game going to have a lot of dex and mid teens strength. Any suggestions on which dual wielding combo is best??

This sun bro hates the sun.

Medium location spoilers :

I went into the gutter. Found the very first bonfire. Lit many many lightsources. Found some giant insect that i killed (wtf?). I ended up in a pit, and finding the black gulch bonfire (with green statues, and horrors everywhere). Is it the right way ? Did I miss anything ?

God, I am really not as far into this game as I want to be. For some reason I come home from work and just waste time not playing. Before I know it, its like 9:30 and I'm like "Well no point in playing for just an hour and a half..."

Tell me what's wrong with me Gaf! >.<

Yeah but not mingy spiders like in skyrim or dragon age!

Can count on one hand the amount of games that have gross spiders in them.

Anyways i did just google it....mmm not looking forward to a certain
boss!

Awww you spoiled it! I really loved when I first attempted that boss - oh, you're shooting lasers at me? I'll just run behind and
OH GOD IT HAS A BUTTFACE
.

Shouldn't surprise you. Sunbros = best bros. The sunbros i've experienced tend to be really efficient, helpful players. When I have the choice I ALWAYS summon sunbros first.

They always were the best, you are just allowing yourself to notice.

you have any idea...any idea, how many times I invaded people in DS1 and was greeted with their big flashing light bright ass across the map?

In the forest, I saw them before anything, rocking some big ass weapon or magic and 1 shot me like it was nothing....

ugh....

UGHHHhh

this is some sort of irony right now

You are doing fine. It is an 'easy' area.

Just finished the game for the first the first time. I didn't look up anything and I avoided most of the released media going in to the game. What a journey! I ended things with 61 hours played at level 132. I might've dodged a bit of the difficulty by summoning help for most encounters - though I felt the game provided a sufficient challenge all the way, none the less. I'm sure there's still aplenty to do and find, even though I did a fair bit of exploring and stuff that seemed to be off the beaten path.

I think I enjoyed the game a whole lot more than the past Souls games. I also think I got a lot more out of the story this time, too - but that might've just been me growing to be much more patient with these games.
TL;DR - loved it, and I don't think I'm done.

The pit in Majula:
I was able to jump down the pit and find a bonfire in Saints Grave. I was also able to jump down to what looks like Blighttown 2 but never found a bonfire. Any reason to pay the ladder guy for alll three ladders?

The falchion does a little more damage, and also has the advantage of building up bleed (which doesn't seem to do a lot in DS2, but you take every advantage you can get in these games), so I'd recommend that.

By the way, a weird mix that worked well for me was dual wielding a mace and a falchion. The mace's strike damage helps you power through heavily armored enemies that are often resistant to slash damage, and it also has a pretty good moveset with a really strong dual wield heavy attack.

Finally beat the
Darklurker
last night after 40+ attempts. Used up every one of my human effigies while trying, then had to go farm for more. Was really worried that I was going to exhaust my NG supply of them without ever being successful. That possibility just added an extra level of nervousness to the fight, of course.

I don't know if victory has ever tasted so sweet in a Souls game. I was shaking when it was over.

I used it for a while since it has a greater range but since I'm a dex user it wasn't the best fit for me.

I just got ganged up on by two guys in the
Bell Tower
covenant. One of them was kind enough to wait to the side while the first and I did battle. Well I went to bow to the first guy and he lunged, fucker. I prefer a sense of "honor" in the games - don't attack someone who is bowing shouldn't go without saying. All the same I backrolled and wiped out half his health, then a summon popped up and we wiped them out, followed by the gargoyles. Thank you reigel85, whoever you might be.

After hating the bell tower people I tried it out for a while and discovered there is a reason why they are dicks. Every time I have tried to be nice to the host they either take the time to summon more allies or run though the door. All while I can't heal. Have to go full dick mode to make any progress at all.

A buddy of mine told me there should be a "saint" grave or something right here... and rat covenant. Is it after black gulch ?

There is a covenant there but it isn't rat. There is nothing after gulch since it is where you get another great soul.

Is bonfire ascetic what increases the "bonfire intensity" on the travel menu? Are the effects permanent or do you have to use one every time you re-travel? ..or are these two things not related?

What is done cannot be undone.

Well, finished the game. 66 hours, SL139, 466 deaths. Went with a pure dex build, curved swords, katanas, bows and occasionally the black knight halberd when the situation called for it.

Totally loved it, it exceeded my expectations by a long way. It's hard for me to say if I like it more than the first game since that was the first souls game I played and you don't get to have that experience again, but I think game is better in many respects. I thought the changes to the combat are mostly improvements, the level design is better, I enjoyed the story more and this game is just bigger. I'd say it's a little uneven in terms of areas and boss designs but the only time I ever felt really annoyed with the game was one optional boss at the end. Oh, and I absolutely love the armour designs.

Excited for NG+, I can already tell there are some surprises in store from the first few seconds :P

can you share your final stat distribution?

10 hours in to my first souls game and I FINALLY beat
Dragonrider
. Knowing of at least three other bosses, I'm kinda terrified of what comes next, but that Victory lettering made me feel prettty good. Onto the
Dragonslayer, I guess
. Totally feel like I haven't scratched the surface yet.

Survived two summonings in Doors of Pharros, honestly the best feeling ever. One guy walked into his own axe trap while trying to snipe me and the other I one shotted with a sunlight spear + binoculars combo.

Fuck that place, cheapest shit ever. Never seen anyone who isn't up on a ledge pelting you with arrows while you try to deal with the mastodon and rat.

Hey guys. I've been keeping myself as spoiler free as possible, 'cause I'm not buying this until the PC release.
Just wondering if you could give me a quick idea about how you all feel about the game?
Like, are you enjoying it? What's the difficulty like compared to the last one? Anything in particular that really stands out?

Thanks :)

It's good. I think it's the worst of the three Souls games, but it still has plenty of the unique things that makes the series worth playing.

I think the enemy layouts and a pretty decent number of areas in the game are hugely disappointing. Most of the bosses aren't much to write home about either.

Still, it can be a lot of fun. There are a lot of good levels that make up for the less inspired stuff.

Wait, can I use token of fidelity in other people's worlds to become human?

It heals your host, but I don't think it turns you human since you're human when you're summoned already. Unless you mean turns you human once you return to your home world, in which case I don't know.
