Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Not open for further replies.
So my stats currently are:

VGR 15
END 20
VIT 20
ATN 4
STR 29
DEX 10
ADP 20
INT 3
FTH 6

Should I start pumping Faith and Attunement? Should I put any more points into endurance or vitality?

How good is STR/FTH builds in this one? Is faith really good now? Am I better off just going full physical?

I'm at an impasse. I didn't want to have to do this, but I think I'm legitimately stuck.

The last thing I did was kill Freya and Vangarl. I've done The Rotten, The Last Sinner, Rat Authority, Faux Quelaag; all of them cats. The 'alas, nothing happened' formation has appeared underneath the drooling stone dragon, but I have no idea how to interact with it meaningfully, just as I have no idea how to interact with that tree eliciting the same prompt in FotLG.

Rather than just outright tell me what to do, is it possible that you could give me a very light hint, i.e. which area I should be in. That would be gravy, Gaf.

Cheers.
There is still two paths to go. One involves talking to a certain someone in the sun but not in an area you expect. The other you have to backtrack from Majula to meet someone new.

Wasn't there a contraption that the crestfallen warrior was talking about?

Have you been checking around some of the areas in Majula? I can be less vague if need be.

Went cleric route my first run through the game. It's amazing in short. Focus on str or dex, whatever floats your boat, and enough Faith to cast Lightning Spear and you're good. Trivializes a lot of encounters in the game.

so power stance if you dont have the stat requirements you just dual wield like normal?
do you have to get 1.5 the stats altogether or just for the highest weapon

The (late game spoilers)
Aegis
fight is fun. The hallway before it is so obnoxious, though. I wish they didn't drop mist door invincibility...

This game. Looks like ass, yet addicting as crack.

Can't stop thinking about. Love the bastard sword for my str/dex build.

Hats off From.

Please be working on next souls game for ps4 as we speak.

Fucking hell this optional boss
Giant Rat with his friend small rats and toxic instant death = gg
.

I beat him last night. Took a few tries, but it wasn't that bad. Once the actual boss shows up, just keep away from the hordes and find the one attached to the life bar, then go all out. The boss himself doesn't take that much to kill.

Yeah, that one is annoying but doable:

Try to use a big weapon with swipe attacks or a spell with big AOE. Personally I used my Bastard Sword +3.

Once the small rats are gone the big one is easy. Just stay under its legs.

'Contraption does not move' :(

I've gone back through Majula and spoken to
the guy with the blue sword and the petrified woman and done everything beyond there; or so I think.

This
fella in the sun
, though. I think that's it, but I am no less clueless than I was half an hour ago...

Also, I just "wasted" all of my fireseeds on the
Dark Pyromancy Glove
. I didn't read the description fully and got suckered in by superior numbers. I need a win here.

Try to find a good low-hitting sweeping weapon to clear out the rats. I used the Arced Sword, a boss soul weapon. Also, if you have good STR/DEX you should be able to clear out one or two rats at the start of the fight before they reach you.

Is there anything that always respawns?

The ghosts that appear in the Royal Crypt will always be there if you ring the bell, the spear statues in Drangleic Castle never stop respawning, and I'm pretty sure that there's one I'm forgetting but hell if I can remember it now. Think there's at least one more, though.

?

You need a certain someone to move it for you.
It's the lady by the bonfire after you kill the Dragon Rider

Finished the game twice now, and working on my third run. Have to say, my initial impressions weren't too far off. The game is no Dark or Demon's due to a great number of issues, but I can't say that I don't enjoy it, nor that it's not a Souls game. Just not the game I was hoping for. It's not even really the lighting issue either (which admittedly is a bummer, but it's not the main problem with the game).

Many of the level designs are underwhelming, while some are really nice. It's very inconsistent.

Many of the enemy placements are pure bullshit, and not "skill" based in any form, but more of a "surprise, fuck you, hope you're about to be dead!" type of scenario. It's especially stupid when having to face extremely hard hitting enemies (Pilgrims of the Dark quests or one specific event in Harvest Valley) with zero room to maneuover unless you want to get jumped by another two enemies that hit just as hard (can 1-2 shot you). Then you have all of the scenarios where you just have to face 4-6 enemies at once, which throws out precision/tactical fighting out the window and feels like a lazy design to make the game "harder".

Progression seems "off" in the sense that if you go out of order, some areas can be extremely difficult, while if you go back to the areas that you were supposed to do earlier, they are mostly trivial. Demon's and Dark didn't have that problem.

Combat isn't nearly as refined as in the previous two games, and feels downright sloppy sometimes. The hitboxes are waaaay off compared to the other games, and enemies tracking you midswing is pure bullshit and makes dodging almost entirely useless except on the slowest of slow attacks.

It does have a lot of varied areas to visit, the upgrade system for infusion/boss souls is a lot less obtuse (which can be good or bad depending on your view), and they did add a few more interesting spells to the mix. It's just too bad that they decided against the buff to casting that they original had in the game though. It would have made it a lot more dynamic and interesting.

Melee, especially STR builds still have a disgusting advantage for the first 75+ levels in PvE. There's no comparison.

I'm currently doing a no-sheild dex playthrough...

It is much harder so far :(

I absolutely breezed through the game using a grestshield on a knight type character. Started over with a no shield Dex character like you and am struggling too. The auto tracking on enemy attacks makes it miserable to play sometimes.

Yeah, you need
Licia. She's in Heide's Tower of Flame (keep going past the contraption to get there). Once you beat the Dragonrider boss, she's on top of that same tower. Exhaust her dialogue and she'll move to Majula, right by the contraption. She'll move it for you for 2,000 souls.

Sorry to hear that. How far are you?

When I'm totally frustrated I tend to rely on co-op in these games.

super early.

Its just more so that I am in the zone of getting worse the more I die rather than going "oh I get it know..let me try this" and the knowledge that things will only get crazier isn't making me look forward to the rest of the game.

It is what it is.Trial and Error type games don't work for me, probably never have..but this looked fun but it hasn't been so far

This is my favorite game of all time, but its not for everybody, nor would I recommend it to random people. However, it most certainly is not a "trial and error" game.

Yeah I have played the whole game so far without a shield and it was kicking my ass at first too.

It makes me laugh when people talk about how easy the game supposedly is.

I'm soul level 120, what would be a good place to help people out as a sunbro?

I've discovered right now the easiest place for me at SL97 is the
Prowling Magus fight.
Easy boss that if done right it goes quick. I've been here about a half hour and have earned 5 medals. Would have had 7 but two of my summoners were reckless and got killed. :(

I don't get the complains about this game being a lesser experience compared to the others, I'm having a shitload of fun with this just as I had a shitload of fun with the other 2. And I haven't even touched the online aspect of DS2.

I don't know if the formula is just too good or what, game just rocks. My only complaint is the lack of memorable NPCs, at least so far.

downgraded graphics and whatnot this is probably a lock for goty for me, no other game can offer this kind of experience.

I had a hard time deciding which I liked more between DeS or DS1 and now I'll probably have a hard time deciding which I like more of the 3.

Just not seeing the appeal. Not having fun, just frustration.

oh well, not every game needs to be for me.

The early areas in the game are not as exciting. Get past the early stuff and the game becomes a lot more thrilling. I'm in No Man's Wharf right now and it is such incredible level design. I've died multiple times and finally found my way to the boss.

Stick with it. The rewarding sensation you get as you actually conquer and progress in this series like none other.

The payoff to finally overcoming that one area, that one monster, that one boss, is awesome. And you will gather all the skillsets you need to take on the games as they continue.

Alrighty. We have liftoff. Thanks, guys. I feel kind of dirty, but I honestly don't think I would have gone back to that.
as you've probably assumed, I hadn't spoken to her enough to get her to venture to Majula.

I'm surprised at people saying the no shield route is difficult. I've be dual wielding since I started and have yet to pick up a shield. It's been tough but not too tough. I don't think I could have beat a few of the bosses without co-op help but I've solo'd my fair share too. I've always been a dodger over a blocker since Demon's though so maybe I'm just used to it.

talk to the woman selling miracles right after the dragon rider boss in heides tower, once you've exhausted her dialog she'll move to the passage and help you move the contraption
I have no idea how you're supposed to figure that out on your own, or why you'd go back there in the first place since you don't get an item to unlock it and as far as I know it's not even hinted in any dialogue

It is relatively easy if you decided to run around in med - heavy armor and use a tower shield + Claymore (or equiv). Not so much if you decided to actually run a lighter or caster build. Although each build can shine over the others in specific situations, STR just has the edge for most of the game, especially the earlier to almost late areas.

This game is "bigger" with less refinement compared to the others. It could have used another three to six months of fine tuning.

I don't get it either, but I also have been a "no shield" player since Demon's.

Man I feel so stupid. I read the description for the
Giants Soul
and just popped it, only learning later that they
decrease Vendricks defense.

Now there's only 3 left that are easy. Is that viable?

But the summoning is kind of a difference maker. You can go entire boss without the boss even swinging at you with summons. I avoided them entirely on my first play through.

@Mik317

If it's your first venture in Souls series.

Beginner tips.

1. Make sure you are using a shield build. Having a shield will make things easier in the earlier parts of the game.

2. Make sure you are using the lock-on button to target enemies. I know I went through Boletarian Palace (1-1) in DeS without using it.

3. Make sure you speak to
the lady in black in Majula and get the Estus Flask. This is very crucial for health restoration. You can also find an Estus Flask Shard in Majula near a well (I think?) and that will increase your quantity of health restoration items.

4. Go to
Forest of Fallen Giants
as your first area. It is easier (I would say). I think the real excitement begins once you get through this area.

Summoning on NG is pretty random in that there's a good chance your 'helper' dies in the first ten seconds and you're stuck with a meatier boss.

Summons in NG+ are all pro as fuck, though. For obvious reasons.

That part's bullshit, I had to look it up online eventually.

When she moves to the contraption the entrance to the contraption lights up and it's visible from the Majula bonfire, so if you warp there it should catch your eye.

Lol. Put down my summon sign to practice on (late game)
those two random kinda easyish bosses at the end of the bridge in the castle. Get summoned and it's some crazy undead dress lady. Wut.

I hope sorceries pick up, because I feel pretty underwhelmed compared to other characters I've co-oped with. I just helped a guy out with
Ruin Sentinels
and his lightning spear was doing triple the damage of my bolts (INT 25, base staff+4).
