Wow, the (mid game boss)
Smelter Demon
was stupidly easy. I was a little scared after hearing so many horror stories in this thread, but I wrecked his shop first try. I did some jolly co-op for the first time in front of his door to help other people, but the amount of people that just charge in swinging and then get killed on his first or second set of attacks is staggering. How the heck am I supposed to earn my sunbro medals when everyone is so suicidal?

That is MIDgame?
...

Oh man.

I actually think I prefer the way this game is set-up, over DkS. I mean Dark Souls had a more cohesive world that felt more...lived in. If that makes sense. However DSII has this whole gimmick of LONG paths that cover 3-4 areas in a row, ending with a major boss. Very reminescent of DeS but mixed in with the open structure of it's sequel. And IMO the areas themselves are more interesting to explore than any in DeS (safe for Latria), and they stack up to DkS. I mean there's so much stuff to find in each place, and such a large amount of areas that I for me, I don't want to go back to DkS's Metroidvania style. From now on, I want this ridiculous amount of places and sheer freedom, if only because it'll make replays more interesting, in my eyes.

Usually, when I finish a Souls game, I take a small break of it. Cleansing my palate and such. But with DSII, I just want to replay the whole thing over and over with new builds. It's more "videogamey" that way, but I think that makes things even more addictive this time 'round.

This game is fun but the amount of bosses they throw at you every 5 minutes is kinda insane. I wish every boss had a little intro. Only a few have them so far.

if you summoned him, he gives you all his gear and ring in another location.
i just got them yesterday. Pretty sweet.

Aaaww damn it , oh well I guess this is bound to happen when you do a blind run
Does human effigy get less rare later in the game because I have 6 right now and don't want to use them , should I use them ?

So GAF, what d you think about some content(magic, mechanics, weapon) locked until you run NG+?

Honestly i'm not happy about that, the limited cracked red orbs make invasion in your normal playthrough rare.

Well, how much of it is NG+? Just
boss souls,
no? I know I'm gonna get
the Moonlight Greatsword before I finish the game for the first time!

Fine by me, I'll be making it to NG++++ regardless. So the more new stuff, the better.

I ended up with about 30 at the end of the game, but I very rarely used them. I wouldn't say they get much more common, but you do keep finding them throughout.

I think it's pretty cool, especially if you can
use ascetic and get the stuff without resetting the whole game
.

they can be farmed from a few enemies but I haven't seen a lot dropped so far. Some NPCs give you them if you exhaust their dialogue. I'm down to 5 right now. Is there a NPC who has an unlimited amount to sell? It does suck that they want you to coop in the is game but you still need to be human to do it.

I didn't post here yet to avoid spoilers, but after spending more than 30 hours in it and got 3 of the 4 primal bonfires lit I can say that I like the game a lot.
I wanted to see how they changed the mechanics without much increasing my stats. So I'm currently SL28 with a bandit base offensive stats (str+1) and running almost naked.
Learning the game this way was a blast and not too hard actually. It's always possible to do a lot of damage with a low level character. Hell it's possible to break the game even more in DS2.

Here is mine.

Going as blind as possible and avoid asking help through my first run.
I'm going on a trip right now, so it saddens me to leave the game unfinished but I will come back later.

That's one thing that annoys me when sunbroing the Smelter. I'm really good at keeping his aggro on me and evading his attacks but the host doesn't realise that and tries to charge him, instead of attacking from behind.

I see a lot of people getting caught by his AoE blast too, like multiple times in the same fight.

Yeah exactly why I try to save them but at the same time you die a lot in this game so I think they should have a merchant with unlimited supply of them .

This game is apparently huge.

I'm not a huge fan of the randomness of areas, I'm always wondering which area I should go to based on level. I just remembered I need to go back to the gutter, but at this point I'm probably far over leveled for it.

Other than that, and the usual Souls stuff like not explaining a fucking thing, it's great.

Did anyone manage to get the item near the second fire at huntman's copse, where you have to make two jumps?

Did I miss my chance at the item in the tree
where you fight the scorpion boss, I think during the fight you need her to break the tree down?

Yea I made the jump, have no idea what the item was though, it's definitely possible from the platform above the bonfire.

The 2nd question, yea that's the only way to get that item, but good news, it was just some random consumable. Firefly jar i think?

Ugh, that's the worst. I'm like, okay, sure, he got you the first time, that's fine. Now you know. Wait, wait! He's doing it again! Stop! Turn back!! *host has died, returning to your world*

I hope they patch in an unlimited amount to Melentia or someone else. They added those Purging stones to female undead merchant in DkS1 way back to make it less of a hassle to get them so it's not out of the question.

After you find a certain ring they aren't too big a deal (for single player).

I must have got lucky with an early crystal lizard drop as I've been rocking a Fire Longsword +5 ever since the first boss I beat (Forest of the Fallen Giants). Since then I've beaten the following bosses:
Dragonrider, Old Dragonslayer, Flexile Sentry, Ruin Sentinels and Skeleton Lords
. Although my weapon has felt sufficient for the areas I've beaten, I feel I haven't progressed my gear in about 15 hours. Where can I get some more large shards easily? Would love to take my sword to +6 and try out some other stuff now that I've invested in DEX like the Falchion and Ricard's Rapier but without being able to take them past +3 none of them come close to my Fire Longsword. I've spoken to the merchant at the start of Harvest Valley but all she's selling at the moment is 10 regular shards

Also, when/where can I improve on the short bow? Don't want to waste upgrade materials on it if I might find something a little better in the near future

I'm already getting tired of dying a stupid death then being unable to get back to my body to reclaim my souls. Augh There really need to be a better shortcut/second bonfire in the Warf.

Oh, I have that already. But it's not about the life bar. Still need to be human to summon. :(

There's also at least two rings of life protection, which keep you human and prevents soul loss. Though they break you can repair them for just 3000 souls so... yeah.

Go to No Man's Wharf and get a
Ring of Protection. It preserves souls AND your humanity and once it breaks it only costs a measly 3000 souls to repair. Human 4 lyfe. You can get another Ring of Protection later as well as a Ring of Protection that protects against petrification and a Ring of Protection that protects against curse(?) as well.

Thanks to this I now have 30 something effigies. Perhaps 40-50 now.

Got that too. It's just busywork to be able to summon. Guess I'll need to deal with that.

Ring of Life protection.
It breaks when you die but you loose nothing and a blacksmith can repair it.
I discovered this when I went to recover my bloodstain so I put it like I do in DS1. I thought the ring was lost but no, it stays in the inventory and you can repair it.

Yea, I have all those rings and I've been using them.

Well once you have two of them if really cuts down on the need to travel constantly I think. Since getting mine I've yet to dip below 8 effigies, since I wait until I understand a level and or have a shit ton of souls.

Yea, guess I'll look for a second one for those soul farming sessions.

on one character, I saw pate in earthern, and he gave me nothing.

on the next character, I saw pate in earthern, and he gave me his armor.

there were no story differences in my encounters with him up to this point.

what causes this?

Never done faith before normally I play pure melee in souls games as find it more fun but this time i felt needed some sort of magic.

Rocking Sun Sword and Drangelic Shield at moment switched from Morning Star and Dragonsirder Greatshield. I had to wear Aldous armour for most of game so could keep equip burden under 70%, feels good finally have armour that is not see through.

I was wondering how much people here invested in Adaptability. I read in several forums that it's pretty useless others say it's not. Those that upgraded it, do you see a difference?

I have it at 12 so far. All I see from numbers is higher resist and higher poise. Dunno about the faster animations.
