Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Damn... made some good progress last night in taking out both the Old Iron King and Duke's Dear Freja. I've got all of the souls to enter the castle now, but I still haven't explored the Doors of Pharros.

In Dark Souls and Demons, I at least tried each boss once before bringing in co-op. In fact, most of them I beat alone. However, this time, for some reason, I'm totally paranoid and I don't even attempt a boss without bringing in at least the NPC... sometimes 2 real players. Haha.

Anyone else always bring in a buddy?

Never have, never will (not even an NPC). I finally tried SunBro'ing on bosses I've already beat to help other people, but I don't want help on my own.

This is actually a much smarter idea than you realize, especially if you're achievement/trophy hunting.

Two of the trophies require you to complete NPC questlines that involve summoning said NPCs to several boss fights and keeping them alive. I'm trying to get those now with Bonfire Ascetics, and it's infinitely harder than it would have been the first time around.

Well crap.

killed the
yellow rat bastard
, finally! felt SO good. I spit on his corpse and danced a little victory dance.

not so tough now, are you, huh?!

I think i've done most things there is to do now and i'm thinking of doing New Game+. But regarding trophies, do i need to kill any NPCs before doing NG+? Also, do you need to complete every covenant to get some special items (also related to trophies)?

Also, regarding
Navlaan, any tips here? Do i choose yes to his request or do i let him free?

Any other tips regarding trophies? I've already missed out on summoning NPC because i mostly played as hollow, so that is one thing i know i need to do in NG+. Also, what happends if a NPC dies in a battle, am i screwed for that playthrough then? And i need to try again in NG++?

I always put down a summon sign first and help other people to scope out the boss. If I get a good read and think I can solo it I go ahead but if it scares me I go for a summon.

Whats the mechanic with them? Do you just need them in your inventory? I think I have three and Hes kicking my ass right now.

Yes, just having them in your inventory will make him have less health/or damage resistance, either way, you will kill him MUCH quicker than not having them. If he is kicking your ass, either GET GUD or go find 2 more souls of a giant.

I did the quest line. You get a unique armor set as a reward (make sure to talk to him plenty AFTER you have done them all). You don't actually need to kill
any NPC's as you can either find the items he wants elsewhere or buy them from them. You also get to keep the items, he does NOT take them. So, there isn't any downside to doing the quest line as far as I can tell

so how long is this game? Right now I've defeated 6 bosses, the
Last Giant, Pursuer, Dragonrider, Ruin Sentinels, Flexile Sentry, Last Sinner

how far am I? I feel like I've progressed quickly, but at the same time I feel there is still a lot of things to see (haven't even found pyromancies yet, barely have many sorceries)

You're just getting started.

I CAN'T DO IT! I JUST CAN'T DO IT! I'VE TRIED FOR 2 FUCKING HOURS AND I CAN'T KILL THE
ANCIENT DRAGON
.

AND THE BEST PART?! I GOT HIM DOWN TO ONE HIT LEFT AND HE KILLED ME.

You can do it.

Make sure you equipped to do maximum damage and have good stamina and stamina regen. Nothing else matters. Red tearstone ring is amazing here, you can get it to trigger by falling off the stairs on the way there a couple of times.

Oh man, hated them so much. I remember having trouble but there were zero summons there for me.

I kinda found them easy. Esp with co-op, as they go down within 30 seconds. If you deal with them 1 at a time, it's better. For the "wheels" part, stick to the walls/sides, as that will stop them in their tracks easily (even if they hit you, they will obviously stop).

I'm also a Sorcerer, so I kinda keep my distance, so the main ones don't even touch me.

What is your soul memory right now? (top right in player profile that lists your total souls). If you are too high for that area, it's very likely you won't have much luck co-oping before that. Though perhaps you just were too low at the time for that area.

I'll try that, you'll be hearing from me on here when I finally kill the little shit. Damn
everlasting dragons
gotta be so damn PRIMORDIAL.

Why is it that my summons are always people who like to dive into the fight and die in 10 seconds?
My buddy had the same problem - every time they tried to help somebody the person who summoned them was an absolute nimrod.
Got to a specific boss though, and things improved greatly.

Managed to get a Necromancer to drop a
Lizard
Staff - I love this thing, if only for the looks.

Also, last night I had my first run-in with the
Lion Clan
. They annihilated me.

After having really no trouble with this game, I got stuck on the
Smelter Demon
over the weekend and just out the game down to take a break. Went back to him last night and beat him on my first try like it was nothing...Got to love that.

Never summoned anyone in DSI, maybe because I was so late to the party, but just now I realized how much fun this stuff actually is. Like I posted earlier. Been setting my summon sign in the wharf too, helping others is a lot of fun.

I'm sure this has been answered but I just can't find the answer for the life of me, so: what do I lose if I die in a world where I was summoned to help?

You lose the profound satisfaction of having helped another lost soul.

Other than that, there are no real consequences, though if you use spells and Estus charges in the host's world and fail to fulfill your duty they won't be replenished upon your return to your own world.

After avoiding them all Dark Souls 1 and most of 2.....I'm finally joining the sunbros

Can't believe I'm doing this somebody kill me

Always nice to see somebody decide to join the winning team. Welcome to the best covenant of them all.

Oh joy.. I'll wait till my Warrior playthrough before I attempt that. I got a feeling they die quicker in the NG+ mode. heh

I did Benhart last night and that required three separate summons. I'd heard Lucatiel requires four, but someone else might know better than I.

For Benhart, I ended up doing the Parish boss in Brightstone (NG+), Mirror Knight (NG+), and the final bosses (NG). Parish and final bosses were pretty easy, but keeping him alive against the NG+ Mirror Knight was a nightmare. If you find yourself in the same boat, I highly recommend equipping the Redeye Ring. This'll make enemies aggro you instead of your NPC. Once I did that, I was able to knock it out first try.

I've been doing a lot of boss fighting as a summoned helper, but generally for my own battles I like to do it solo. However on a few occasions I've ended up fighting bosses with tons of souls on the line (usually after underestimating the challenge after breezing through a fight in co-op). They kill me, my souls are trapped in there, forcing me to keep going back until I win. Meanwhile my health max is dwindling, so eventually I say fuck it and go easy mode by summoning.

I got summoned to Iron Keep.
When I went in to the Smelter Demon room there was something on the ground, I though it was a lifegem (since that is what usually drops during summons). It was a Ring of Blades +1. Did I fuck up and steal from the host?

I kinda figured out the strategy solo after retrying like 10 times lol. I'm not home right now so I dunno my soul memory atm.

Trying my best to solo all the bosses on my first playthrough, just to say I did it. From NG+ and any NG beyond though, I'm going to go crazy with summons. I'm going to summon people for fights I don't even need help with, because that's what the feature is there for.

i feel like because there are so many more bosses in this game, I'm less 'prepared' soul and EQ-wise for each individual encounter. and because there are so many bonfires, I awkwardly feel more confident progressing so I actually use bonfires less - so i keep hitting fog doors with more souls than I want, get scared, and summon away!

Though, I find it amusing and fun sometimes... I know it cheesies most bosses, but there's something amusing about YOU being the stronger force in a game like DS, which is designed to kick your ass. kicking ass and being OP'd with a team sometimes in itself is rewarding.

That's a good idea. I haven't gone to any of the bosses for Benhart yet, so I should be able get that trophy attempt at least.

I've got 2 of those rings that prevent going hollow when you die, feels a bit like cheating having free deaths before going back to repair but once you know this exists it's hard to say no.

everyone talks about how fast they get summoned in the bellkeeper covenant, but I literally never get summoned when I'm in the bastille and wearing the ring. weird. lvl 131.

is there some trick to it or am I over-leveled or something

I tried the ring out for the hell of it. I found having to spend 3000 souls a pop kind of adds up over time and starts to become a hassle after common enemies in easy zones begin to go extinct.

Though I do agree it's a little cheesy. I would have felt better if the rings had say, 6 uses each before they break forever. Or something more diabolical. Like they have a 33% chance of reducing your soul level by 1 each time you die, even though you don't lose humanity or the loose souls you're carrying.

Edit: plus once you begin to build a collection of really nice rings, sacrificing a slot to the life preservation ring becomes a downside.

This really sucks.

I'm in The Lost Bastille and I lay down a summon sign. I get a message saying "failed to create summon sign. Timed out to the server." From what I'm seeing online, apparently the cause is my save file is corrupt and I have to create a new save.

If that's the case and there's no patch in sight, I'm very disappointed with my purchase. 15 hours down the drain.

After installing the patch, first thing noticed is that the first elephant (after the bonfire) in doors of pharros is gone. Now I only have a stupid dog to keep my victims 'entertained' while I slip poison arrows in the behind area. Wtf FROM.

Apparently that is supposed to be fixed in this latest patch that just arrived.

He's just been killed too many times. Its the same thing that happens when you kill them.

Weird. I'm not seeing very many summon signs. Eventually, a few will appear and when I try summoning, I get a "Summoning Sign Disappeared" message. ):

Today i found out that the champions covenant makes all the enemies
stronger[/b] thanks to gaf.

now I understand why I had so much trouble with
The Pursuer and the Ruin Sentinels
.

I both and hate the fact that this happend to me.
