Jesus Christ, got my first real red player invader in the damn castle. Glad I found the bonfire right before it or I would've been pissed. Would've had a fair fight except the enemies were still around,

Goto Huntsman Copse and you get very likely invaded
because of a covenant there that wants some evidence that you are a blood thirsty motherf*cker

So for PvE characters, what would be the best weapon in the game ? And what element would be best to infuse onto a weapon ? I heard lightning was strong against most enemies and only one boss resists it.

on my first try. Feels good man. My heart is pounding

A friend of mine was so boned against him because his main weapon was a Great Lightning Spear.

Unfortunately for him, it reflects that back at you while doing (I think) no damage lol. These details, man.

Best to do this is at soul level between 60 and 80. Best place is directly at the bonfire near the tower or exploring the nearer rooms. I got over 20 summons today with only seconds waiting for the next invasion. In the end it was that somehow annoying that I couldn't even take a step without getting called :)

Hmm im SL 130 lol. Maybe i should try Belfry Sol

I really need Human Effigies. If I am close to NG+ should I go ahead and kill the old women for them? If it isn't permanent then I will do it, but otherwise I won't because I don't want to be locked out of resetting stats.

Beat it over the weekend.
Pure dex-melee character. 70 hrs flat. Played hollow throughout. The only thing I have not done was the dark covenant quests. The difficulty for certain areas vs the area boss was strangely inconsistent, and there were lots of strangely easy bosses (including the last boss).
Long way to go for all achievements though. Playing a pure caster now, gonna mop up the rest of the achievements with this one because I missed the Bell Caster and Sun covenant spells with the original character.

edit: Love the game. A huge step forward from Dark Souls in many aspects, and yet I don't mind the minor steps backwards. Gonna be playing this for a long time.

Seed from a Tree of Giants is your friend in those scenarios. It
turns the enemies on the invader as if they were you.

Been doing the tasks for
Pilgrims of the Dark
. The last area in Black Gulch is destroying me, especially that first guy with the crazy mace/club. Tried a couple of times, but don't fancy burning through too many effigies.

So did anyone else find the last boss deeply underwhelming? I mean all I did was stay outside the range of her curse-things and spammed her with lightning.

As a pure melee character, the last boss was definitely not underwhelming. Especially because I didn't realize you can
destroy those orbs
until my third playthrough.

a melee char can't beat D
arklurker
right?

Dark
Havel
is kicking my ass almost everytime i try to get the boss.
i have only 10 humanity items left.

:(

I did it after about 40 attempts. If I had to do it over again I'd probably just respec.

In Souls games it's always good to have a backup weapon. If not for that reason but for weapons breaking too.

Yeah, I agree.

Did it as a pure melee character with little trouble. If she does the whole curse orbs thing you can run out of range until she chases you down and fight her there, that's how my brother did it (also as a melee).

why is anyone wasting human effigies ever?
from still hasn't fixed the bug where you have, what seems to be, a 20% chance of being revived to human just be being summoned into someone's game via a white soapstone

i havent used a single effigy yet.

You don't have to kill them. Just use the Talk option on the one who offers
respec
, and she'll give you 6 if you're near the end of the game (I'm not sure what the trigger point is exactly, though). The servant lady will give you another 6 if
you've killed the 2 ogres by the coffin in the tutorial area.

Finally beat
The Lost Sinner!

Too bad about Lucatiel though. If she's vanquished is that it as far as getting a trophy with her?

Lucatiel (and Benhart)
have to survive 3 out of 4 boss fights, and you can re-fight the same bosses more than once using a bonfire ascetic if you wish. As long as it's 3 in one playthrough.

How long does it last? There's a few items at the first bonfire.

There are also
vases filled with water
placed in strategic locations around Iron Keep. Rolling around in those works the same way.

I got a very odd bug today. I was trying to get to the beginning of T
he
G
utter
, and I saw that all treasure in G
rave
of the S
aint
respawned, be it on a corpse or in a chest...without doing anything.

What's also weird is that the Pharros' Lockstone I used to
create a bridge
had been removed, and
the bridge was raised
once again.

This same thing happened to me at the end of my first playthrough right before moving on to NG+. No idea what caused it.

Yeah but I already got those. The
Darklurker
just keeps eating through them. I decided to kill them anyway to get the Effigies, so I guess I'll have to grind before I go to NG+ to avoid getting my shit wrecked for sinning.

It's ok.
Fight Darklurker enough times and maybe you'll get lucky and he'll never clone himself, like what happened on my playthrough ;)

Had you been doing co-op with people earlier? If people were summoning you to their world for co-op they might've been trying to warn you ahead of time that you were playing on quasi-NG+. I've gotten one message along those lines when someone summoned me to help with
Freja
.

I have been doing a lot of co-op actually, and that's probably what it was. Thanks!

Well, he had a Falchion but didn't do much damage with it as he had allocated most points in FTH. He barely had anything in ADP, too, so his roll was pretty weak. All around a weak build, but he only did a respec to try out the Great Lightning Spear and didn't really think it through.

In my case
Darklurker just stood still when he/she had 50% health left :) I had tried maybe 20 times though before this happened. I think i would have made it anyway sooner or later when i discovered that fire is pretty effective on this boss.
.

Does anyone know if using an Ascetic in Aldia's Keep will reset Navlaan? I let him out before I did his questline.

Ascetics don't affect NPCs as far as I've seen, but let us know the result if you're brave enough to use one in that area!

So you get 6 more from each one in the same playthrough if you kill them?

I think I've hit all/most of the points I could get to, now stuck on S

.

I just recently upgraded the hell out of a greatsword and have been using that, and it's a pretty massive change. Doing insane damage to enemies but it really hurts to miss, I never played a build like this before in a Souls game. Though it's one of the things that seem to be tripping me up in this fight I'm stuck on, since I can't move around very fast.

Also summons just, like, get destroyed here. I have seen the one attack where a sword gets plunged into the ground, and there's a delayed explosion catch so many people, lol.

any pvp vets already made up their ring coice?

I'm going for broken Old Sun Ring, 3rd Dragon, Ring of Blades and Ring of Chloranthy. Without Soldier I either need to level up vit up more or I can't wear full Havel (minus the helmet) this time around. :(

Or I replace any of the other rings, but the first two are locked and the other offer nice benefits.

that boss will teach you how to use the roll and you will love it. really, there are two ways to beat the boss. Suck it up and learn to dodge or farm the great shield that absorbs 100% physical and fire. (
wyrm great shield @ door of pharros
). Pyromancy that gives fire resi also works as back up, if you screw up your dodge.

I plugged in my headphone which is also connected to my PC for streaming purposes. As I'm playing, I kept hearing very faint voices in the background. It crept me out! I thought it was some kind of interference since its connected to my PC. Took me a bit to realize its from the game lol.

Have you gotten Ring of Blades +2? The encounter for that reward doesn't mess around. And yeah I pretty much use the same ring configuration, though I haven't messed with the Old Sun Ring yet. Need to give that a shot, seems like it would be useful.

I also tried out the
Lost Sinner
fight again after using a bonfire ascetic. That fight, man. I like how NG+ changes a few of the boss configurations around. As someone who was disappointed in that original fight, the NG+ version keeps you on your toes pretty nicely.

I still haven't officially gone into NG+ because I have a ton of bonfire ascetics and can't resist using them. So when I get to the actual NG+, it will really be NG++ in various areas. :P

question: is there something I'm missing about these items / chests
on those scorching pieces of rock? No matter how much fire resistance I stack up I die incredibly fast due to the burn damage and there seemingly isn't any kind of ring like the Centipede Demon's in Dark Souls 1 that significantly reduces environmental fire damage. Fire RES armor + ring + Flash Sweat barely made a difference, and despite all of this I don't even get through half of the chest-opening animation before succumbing to the heat. Water from the Pharros Stone contraption doesn't seem to help me for this either, so I'm a bit stumped here as to what I'm supposed to do. I've explored all of the environment too, to my knowledge (both bosses killed, rang the bell in Belfry Sol, pulled the flame statue switch).

old sun gives you a random c-c-c-c-c-c-ombobreaker and can actually kill off other players on its own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns169EGieh4&feature=youtu.be

Welp, the
Smelter Demon
is the first boss that's really giving me fits. As soon as he imbues his sword with fire I'm done. Two blocked hits and I'm dead. And I cant seem to figure out how to dodge the horizontal swings. I've read many suggesting to use the
Gyrm Shield
, but that's in the
Doors of Pharros
right? I tried heading that way, but I'm struggling with the
Lion Warriors
on the way there. Maybe I just need to rank up a bit further, I'm currently sitting at SL 68.

Edit: Oh, and I was using the fire resistance ring, didn't seem to help enough.

Edit 2: I also turned off the furnace, but he still imbues his sword at about half health.
