PAL Charts - Week 12, 2014

Do you have any idea of why Microsoft are cutting price? Is it just to combat Infamous SS, or does it have more to do with meeting 5 million consoles shipped, for the upcoming fiscal report?

Probably the former. 1.1m in Q1 should be pretty easy given that the channel was not saturated heading into the quarter.

Speaking of, when are these hitting? Early April?

edit: more like May I guess.

April 24th for MS.

What we need to know: Is Xbone still selling better than PS4 in UK?

No. There was a tidal wave of new PS4 stock with Infamous. A few places sold out but most still have it in.

I do think Sony will begin to clearance the KZ and Knack bundles for £364.99 to get them off the shelves though and transition away from bundles from now until Watch_doge.

I continue to be amazed about the fact that Minecraft is still up there.

Indeed, it has phenomenal legs.

Sony need to get their own retail copy out for PS3, and eventually Vita once that port is released.

A Vita bundle is also obvious (therefore Sony won't do this, lol).

What Sony should do is have a retail version of the PS4 Minecraft when it releases.

And that second week for GTAV was equivalent to the 18th best selling week ever for a game in the UK. So, FIFA or CoD were really the only two games that could've topped it at that point.

But still had an 83% drop-off.

I don't really think it's that bad for Titanfall. You're usually looking at a 60-85% drop from the first week, so I think its position is fine for now.

Amazon UK got a restock of the ISS bundle. It's dropping fast though.
Stand alone PS4 will be back in stock on April 2nd, apparently.

They've got Black Flag bundles in too.

Not sure if Amazon is re-stocking the Knack and Killzone bundles anymore. They've still got pages for the 3rd-party sellers, but they're not options when you click on a PS4 link that Amazon has in stock.

Microsoft cant be happy with PS4 already outselling the Xbone again, after the pricecut and also giving away arguably their biggest title of 2014.

It's currently up to #6 (Infamous bundle). AC is at 45, though I suspect it'll rise if Infamous goes out of stock and the solus (April 2nd) is at #21.

I doubt these are being made by Sony anyway.

The bundles were ridiculously good too. Cheaper than all the ps4 bundles with titanfall. Surprised they aren't selling ever better.

Sainsburys selling every version of MGS:GZ for £22 helped noticed a few supermarkets kept next gen and current gen versions price similar.

Nice to see Infamous and FFXHD (Vita!) doing well.
360 version of Ground Zeroes is pretty low.
So PS4 is back on top, will probably stay that way for the foreseeable future.

For an early gen bundled game which is seen to be the saviour of the system, anything more than a 50% drop-off is worrying. As I said in the previous thread, word of mouth for TF didn't match the hype or reviews in my experience. That will have been a contributing factor to the regularly scheduled drop-off. Also, it's not like TF sold to the whole ownership base in W1 either, 120k vs ~400k means there is a huge base of owners who don't yet own TF, and yet there was not strong enough word of mouth to sell it to these people.

Gaming is one of those mediums that is still highly dependent on strong word of mouth because of the high cost of entry and the high cost of the games themselves compared to other media forms. TF didn't have it. Neither does Infamous, but that is just another game for Sony so it doesn't matter.

Uncharted had it, the original Halo did, Gears had it in spades. People would come over to our place at uni to play Gears because we had a 360. The same is not happening with TF at the moment.

PS4 domination returns. Well deserved, Infamous is a great game and I can see it selling systems based on the visuals. It's the most beautiful open world game I have played.

Do they even sell MLB in the UK? I honestly had not heard of the franchise until a couple of years ago when I started reading GAF

Seeing where the 360 version of MGS:GZ fell makes me really interested to see where Titanfall 360 lands.

MGS is a Sony series really, so I think that will be the test to see how people have jumped to the new consoles from 360.

But HD Collection did better first week on X360 in UK.

ISS is <125k apparently. Sold less than TF.

Ground Zeroes XB1 > PS3.

This is shocking even to me. Last gen is well and truly dead when this happens. Should Konami even bother with the PS360 versions of The Phantom Pain?

I think it really depends on how many PS4's and Xbone's are sold before its release. Warner Bros seems to be the biggest supporter of this gen, together with 2K. Ubisoft,Activision and EA seems a lot more reluctant to drop the old consoles.

I:SS released on a Friday, and Titanfall on a Tuesday apparently, how much would that effect the sales for the week? Or maybe the majority of the sales for the week, of a new game (90+%?) happens on release day?

I really hope they cancel lastgen versions, its just going to hold back ps4. Also this doesnt bode to well for titanfall x360, people seem to be buying nextgen games

I'll agree with that. I think the lack of single-player story and/or split-screen isn't helping with that. Game with a decent story? Pass the controller round and all play it through. The split-screen in Gears and Halo were brilliant in a shared house with a lot of visitors. It is a pity this is lost in all but Garden Warfare so far (unless I've missed something).

It's hard to tell if the current gen versions are very front loaded compared to the last gen versions. Thief is stil selling better on the PS4 than it is on last gen consoles while Garden Warfare on the 360 is now above the Xbox One version.

It would seem like online multi player is required to be a big hit. I certainly hope Sucker Punch create a unique online multi player mode for the next Infamous if there is one. A lot of us Infamous fans wouldn't mind anyways as long as it has variety.

Yep. People should comprehend that Ps3 and 360 are becoming the Wii, the "casual" consoles: i.e. slower debuts than current gen versions (since the day-one crowd move fast) but much bigger legs, since the current gen installed base is still low.
