Played around more in Doors of Pharros last night, and after resting at a bonfire all the enemies wouldn't aggro me. And, I couldn't attack them (attacks went right through their body). Happen to anyone else?
You don't actually have to wait around the Belfry. Just wear the ring and play through the game. It'll summon you when someone else wanders into the area.
You don't have to wait in the bell towers to be summoned. Sure it is nice to other bellbros that are trying top rank up, but wait a bit away from them to actually get summoned yourself. I seemed to be summed even more if I wasn't waiting right outside the belltowers as well, as if the game wasn't sure if it was going to set me up to be invaded or let me invade, so keep that in mind.
Just wait by the bonfire... You will still get summoned and not invaded. That is what I have been doing. And yeah your don't have to wait at the specific area. I just leave my guy idle there until I get summoned.
oh well that's way better then. I thought the icon in the top left needed to glow to be able to get summoned, like with the blue sentinels. I don't have much left to do in the game, should have done it before. thanks guys !
Never thought I'd say this about a Souls game, but I can't wait to be done with this first playthrough. For me, the game feels too long. I'm exhausted by it and just want to get it completed. I think all I have left is
Vendrick, Ancient Dragon, Throne of Want
.
I know most people have said the game gets stronger in the later part, but I feel it drags just like the DS1 did. I want to start a new build but want the first one complete first, but I think by the time I complete it I will need a break from it. I was expecting to be addicted to making builds for months(years!) on end just DS1, but I don't see it - maybe once I start getting into co-op and PvP it will boost my enthusiasm, but as a single player experience I'm exhausted!

I was feeling this nearing the end of my first playthrough. I attribute some of it to getting the game early and playing it way too much trying to finish it when it came out. I skipped the two optional bosses you mentioned and just beat the game. I'm glad it doesn't go immediately into NG+ so I can go back and finish what I missed on that character. But since starting new characters, I'm feeling less burnt out.
That's why I'm not a big fan of so much of the PVP being in NG+. I don't want to have to beat the game to be able to invade freely. I had so much fun in Dark Souls invading with different builds at different parts of the game.

I don't feel this way, but I can honestly say I want my first playthrough to end so I can be done dreading spoilers and participate in the lore thread.
Prepare to be ganged upon. Just try your best to be ready for it. The halberd is a great weapon for dealing with them fairly quickly, but you may have more luck with a smaller, faster weapon if you're really having trouble with it.
because the game does have bugs. one time my ring of protection bugged : I kept my humanity but lost my 750K souls. I was freaking out. luckily there was a bloodstain to get them back, but that's 750K more to my soul memory, which kinda blows.

It's highly possible that this occurrence it was an actual bug, but the Ring of Life Protection does not guard against petrification. The Ring of Soul Protection does protect against petrification. Not saying this was your case since I don't know whether you were petrified, just adding it to the general knowledge.
Does anyone know if there's any such chest armour (metal armour, not clothing-type) piece in the game?
- White armour, or with a white cape floating behind it
- Armour piece with a yellow, or yellow and black tabard
- Armour with dogs as some sort of coat of arms
Yes, I want to cosplay the Hound one day... but I'm not sure which armour chest piece I want.

near the entrance, I got pretty much insta-killed by those dog things there, and at first I thought they had just hit really hard. But I think they petrified me, actually, and that's why I died so fast. The standard ring protected me successfully. Didn't lose souls or humanity.

I had the same thing happen to me during the Lost Sinner NG+ fight. I had clearly died and I was still human, but all my souls were gone and the ring broke. Luckily I picked them back up in the boss room, the lead up has killed me more than a few times.
Also, I was petrified once by those dogs in front of Aldia's Keep but the regular ring protected me. Weird.

Just took down the Lost Sinner solo, first attempt. Glad I lit those fires before I went into it. Now, The Rotten and Lost Sinner down, guess I'm headed back to the Iron Keep!

-Using +5 Magic Mace, they have high physical resist.
-Went for the right one first, circled around the pillars to avoid spells.
-They are slow as hell, so pick one off while the others lumber towards you.
-Once you kill one, pick off the minions. Rinse and repeat.

It might, but it didn't drop for me in this NG+, so it appears it's not a guaranteed drop. Any other way to get it that doesn't rely on stupid rare mob farming?

Magic isn't an option, nor are magic weapons (I haven't got a blacksmith who can do it, nor the stats to back it up). I'm just a simple dual swordsman. Maybe I'm here too early...?
Which one transmorgificates into "our old friends"?

and I think I heard the Claymore was near... Beginning to salivate a little bit. For my strength character that will probably stick with a greatsword and not an ultra greatsword...
Which end game weapon should I start upgrading (I'm coming to a point where I am ready to go +10): Royal Greatsword, Bastard Sword, Claymore or Drangleic Sword? I'm leaning toward Claymore, but I'm open to having my mind changed. Thanks Gaffers!
I likely had my shield out, but I'm sure I didn't use it. I was a sorcerer back then (as opposed to a evil cleric now) and just magic shot each boss until one of them died. then I targeted the spawns, repeat and rinse. It's best to not target the middle one first. Also, for the middle one spawn (the wheels), be near the walls/sides, stops them in their place and easy to kill then
I'm looking at my early game boss souls and getting hungry. I made it to Staid wizard guy and he will let me by one spell only with the Ruin Sentinel. After that it's a bunch of weapons that need decent strength and dexterity.
Since I'm playing a pure mage I should probably eat them, right? Does anyone else come along and offer radically different things for a mild STR & DEX sorcerer?
You don't need to hope for the 1/1000 chance for a friendly pig to spawn. Just lead one of the two aggressive pigs from the campsite area down into the bottom of the cove to the mushrooms. They are in the large room before the spiderweb area where ~10 spiders drop from the ceiling.
The axe drops after they're done eating.

Drangleic for a dex build, Claymore if you're more toward strength. I like the claymore's swing better, but the drangleic ain't bad(Though it takes twinkling titanite to upgrade).
Dragon Shrine. Kind of ran through the Dragon Aerie. I just couldn't handle it at the moment. Joined the Dragon Remnants Covenant, and I'm currently dueling for Scales. Got 11, so far. So much fun. I want that Armor.
I have. It took a couple tries, but it really wasn't bad. First, I went all out on one of the mages and took him out before any could fight back. The I got a couple hits on a second mage before pulling back as the horde started to spawn. From there I just kited then for the rest of the fight, throwing firebombs at any that bunch up, and doing a quick hit and run melee at any that rush me alone.
Obviously, I prioritised the mages early in, and the skeleton wheels when they showed up. I tried to use pillars as cover whenever I could, especially from the wheels, and hopped from pillar to pillar when the enemies got close. Then I would try to lure one wheel at a time to rush me, and then kill then quickly before rolling back behind cover. If ever I lost sight of the wheels, I would spam rolls to get to the nearest cover until I could get them in sight. Then just repeated until they were all dead.
