I don't really care about the tech either, but this past gen has shown that new consoles are needed to spark interest and get some new fresh ideas. Going on for too long isn't good for anything but sequels, and even then, many sequels showed decline over time indicating a loss of interest. With mobile taking over with hardware being constantly refreshed keeping the consumer base active, it is hard for consoles to maintain interest for 5 years, let alone 8.
And I like having lots of good, different games, so that's the benefit of having shorter generations.

People are idiots. It is best not to try and find reasons behind their actions.
I haven't seen anything interesting or new for this gen. Just more recycled ideas. There was a lot of new and interesting stuff mid-gen.
And that's typically the time I buy consoles. The developers would be able to spend quite a bit of time with the hardware and get their creative juices going by that time.

Exactly. It's really as simple as "people get bored after 5 years". Games start to look and perform like shit, especially compared to PC versions. The last 2 years of PS3/360 were painful to say the least.
I'm totally okay with a new, $399 console every 5 years. That's the sweet spot.
Oh yeah, Smash 4 3DS will be March 2015 ^_^

What, the worst main character from KI:U? Sure, that doesn't mean much when all the characters are god tier, but every single main character besides Medusa I liked more.
Still like Palutena though

Last gen I hopped in midway because I decided to get back into console gaming. This gen I bought the Wii U and the PS4 near launch with Xmas money.

So Palutena is friends with pit, and sprays him with that with the possibility of him dying. That is a surprise with her.
Viridi is rivals/friends/enemies with Pit, and her surprise is a hot spring, which Pit enjoys massively
