I think it could work because everyone likes Pacman the game itself but not many people really care for the character, especially the 3D model. I think Bomberman is a better example of a series where the classic gameplay is still liked/known more than the character itself, but the character is also liked by people.
Bomberman is my most wanted newcomer.

Honestly, if Sakurai could just reassemble his dream team from Kid Icarus and have them do all the songs, I'd be perfectly fine with that.
but yeah, I think it would be ok if it was just one orchestrated/live band arrangement per stage plus my music.

I refrained from adding third parties since the number one could feasible put down is obscene, but if someone wants to put them in that's cool with me.
I also probably forgot at least a few important, obvious additions so go ahead and throw them on if you want.
Also they're all either newcomers or characters cut from Melee. Because that's more interesting in my eyes.

I only want Miis if they are customizable beyond their looks. Otherwise they are less interesting customizable versions of Villager.

Kirby isn't one of the big 4, DK is bigger. He's only there because of Sakurai (and maybe Iwata).
Smash 64 commercial suggests that Yoshi is bigger than both Link and Kirby as well.

Red/AJDNNW/A for Smash. The character would be controlled by every player's inputs at the same time.
