hey guys I have a speculation. has it been confrmed if the 3ds and Wii U versions are even going to be released at the same time. I think they might confirm one is releasing in the next couple of months and the other Q4. which do you guys think might release first?

3DS version first and Wii U version for November is my guess if that happens.

Doubt it would happen, but I'd guess Wii U would hit first since releasing the 3ds version first would cut into potential Wii U sales.

My wild no chance prediction is Goemon from Mystical Ninja. Mostly so I can get a remix of the Impact song from the N64 game

The "what moves would Ridley even have" thing is a weird point to raise, when Smash Bros. once took the pilots from a racing game and space shooter and gave them magical flame kung fu.

Its also a dumb question because he has claws and wings.

What in the hell do you think he is gonna do? Though I don't think he is ever gonna get in anyways, so whatever.

The only way the two would really cannibalize each other is if they do something stupid like make the majority of the multiplayer content shared between the two.

Umm... that's pretty much what's happening? We already know the characters will be the same, and stages only change things but so much. Customization stuff might be different, but I don't see how it could not be largely the same experience (just with a much worse controller).

Aside from graphics and stages and the lack of easy local MP, I don't really see a difference in the two. If I had a 3DS and not a Wii U, which is the majority, I would have a hard time seeing why I would need a Wii U for the game. If they release the Wii U version earlier, it would bolster sales.

However, this may all change when we get more info about the games on Tuesday.

Screw Ridley. Smash needs:

Or Lucina.

It's in the same vein as Mario Kart, really - the only difference being how close they're releasing. Maybe that'll be the deciding factor, but as long as the two have distinct content there's more than enough reason to get both.

That is the only way she would get a spot over anybody else.

One part of it is folks feeling like Metroid is big enough (or treated with enough reverence) that it can stand to gain a new character. As most other villanous figures in the series are either gargantuan alien beings/constructs or humanoid but mostly unremarkable or indistinguishable from the previously established in Smash Samus, everyone's settled on Rids because he comes within a certain size (hurrhurr), or more appropriately, a more iconic and malleable form versus every other candidate.

Another reason is the idea that the Smash roster is woefully lacking in iconic Nintendo villains despite having three previous rosters to work in some more. Ridley represents the face of the most recurring villain forces in the Metroid series and as such does another service in showing up in the cast.

The final reason is simply the idea that people just want something crazy and overwhelming. People want retooled Ganondorf still after all. You're also not doing Sakurai any justice stating that because of how overwhelming a force Ridley is traditionally, he wouldn't be able to make something that works in a Smash type mold.

FWIW, I'm really not as invested in Ridley as a lot of other folks are, but I support the idea because I believe that Sakurai would do the idea justice if ever inspired to and also to have another wholly new style of character to play in game. Metroid getting another representative is also icing on the cake.

wat he said.

I like the points in favor of Ridley...but still, I refuse to believe it was even seriously considered. I hope I'm proven wrong though!

Kraid...now Kraid would make some sense. Okay maybe not.

Link & Zelda use their TP models, so the same would apply for Ganondorf.

Perhaps they'll just drop Ganondorf in favour of Demise.

Not even Link and Zelda got updated models, I don't see how that's even a question. It'll be TP Ganondorf again. Maybe Demise makes it in as a separate character with the sword based moveset that people asked for Ganondorf during ages, while Ganondorf remains the same.

For some reason I assume they used Zelda's SS model and a hybrid of TP and SS for Link. Oops.

I hope the Direct isn't just Smash stuff, it'd be nice to see a look at other games too. Have there been Directs stated to be targeted towards specific games which would up featuring a look at others as well?

This is called a smash direct.

Yes it's Smash Direct. WE had Pokemon Direct, Wonderful 101, etc.

Were all the other directs about a month or so out from the release of the game? I can't remember. That's certainly not the case here, but I'm curious as to why they'd want to have a fully dedicated direct now for a game that probably isn't coming out for a while.

Maybe Nintendo want to hit the Nintendo hype even more when it's still hot from Mario Kart, or there are many things that we don't know about Smash.

I think they don't really want Smash to overshadowed other games announcements for April Bimonthly and E3 if they want to blow out with information. Or they need more times to explain Smash to us. However, it's possible that Konami or Namco want Sakurai and Nintendo to reveal third party character now.

1 Day 17 Hours 45 Minutes to go!

This seems like the most likely reason, but if this were the case then I'd expect them to save the Direct for E3, since the Pokemon Direct was during E3.

But, thats like a video with no sound

Its a high quality video format that can support sound, more colors, superior IQ and 60fps and is somehow significantly smaller than a gif. And with an extension you can embed it to act exactly like a gif. So its essentially GIF 2.0.

I have a lab that's supposed to end right when the direct starts airing. Usually I get out a bit early, and I don't think the next one will be that long, but some have even gone longer than they're supposed to. Here's hoping though

If Ridley does get announced I can't wait to see the massive back tracking and crow eating.

I remember having an argument in the 9th grade about Mewtwo in smash bros. This was a year before Melee released mind you. I remember friends of mine questioning how his psychic powers would work and he'd be unstoppable. Plus according to them it would look weird to see Pikachu beating him up in a way only a Smash setting would allow.

I remember before brawl a few arguments popping up about how Olimar could only work if you controlled a giant swarm of a 100 Pikmin with Olimar controlling them at everyone else's feet. Or Olimar would look weird being as big as the other characters.

My brother just a few months ago swore up and down Little Mac just would not work because he doesn't jump in his own games and he'd be doing things completely uncharacteristic of the punch out series.

In Mewtwo and Olimar's case, yeah at first glance it was a little shocking to see them in the Smash setting, but after 35 seconds everyone got used to them. The people who really question how Ridley would work as far as size, move set, etc I feel barely pay any attention to what's available to us now and in some cases purposely ignore it.
