and am about SL100. I'm playing using a bastard sword+7.
I feel like I need to use more or different weapons as I've been using this sword since the third area of the game. But every time I use anything else it's nowhere near as powerful or as effective. I used the fire sword when I first got it and even though it swings fast the damage output is low and found I could dispatch enemies faster with the bastard sword. Should I stick with bastard sword and just carry on upgrading?
This sword is good but a bit boring to use. Should I enchant it with lightning or something? I heard damage will drop of I do?
What about halberd and claymores? I have most of my stats at 20 apart from int and faith which are at 10 just enough to cast Soul Arrow for pesky long range fights and get me through the fatties to the next bonfires. I was thinking of putting more points into magic so I can equip more spells as more powerful stuff? Is it worth it at this point? My STR is at 25 and dexterity is at 20.
I just feel like I'm not making use of all the weapons and abilities I have and playing it in a dull way even though it's getting me through areas fine doing this.
Blacksteel +10 is awesome. Apparently, dual Blacksteel +10s with 40 DEX are the third most damaging DEX combo after dual Curved Greatswords and BKH... It just happens to be my current set up, too

Just what I read on one of the wikis. Hence the "apparently".
Are you dual wielding and taking into account the magnificent DPS? I may be mistaken here (I'm usually smoking "Jazz Cigarettes" when I play) but I'm personally hitting ~1000 dmg within 3-4 power stance light strikes.

I did before I upgraded the bastard sword and obviously it was still doing more damage than my fire sword as it's a greatsword. I wanna play with a cool weapon enchanted with some kinda attribute. Which is the best one to put onto a weapon? Lightning? Basically what's a good weapon to use? Halberds or greatswords?
I remember using that lightning spear in DS1 for majority of the game that you get from the place with traps...it was awesome but it looks like there isn't one like that in this or they've nerfed them?
Also dual wield is hard to play because you need shield to block a lot of attacks I've found. I haven't tried two weapons one in each hand yet but I'd get slaughtered I reckon as I block and recharge stamina a lot like turtling.
The single two handed BS katana is pretty meaty too, so nasty when you make that connect! I generally switch between dual and two-handing as the situation dictates... mostly because dual wielding just gets me killed with some enemies. XD
EDIT: Now the banner ads are trying to sell me katanas...

The reason your doing more with the bastard sword is that your comparing upgraded weapons to base ones so naturally the bastard is going to be better. A claymore has a nice range and moveset and is blessed by double C's so its a worthy weapon of your usage in the game once upgraded to match.
Damage does drop slightly once a weapon is infused but it's not that much of a loss for the gains in other forms of damage.
I used a Dark Uchigatana +10 and Blacksteel Katana +10 a lot during my run. I love them both dearly. I have a Washing Pole but I haven't touched it, I was conditioned against using that weapon from the first Dark Souls, haha.
Just finished my first playthrough (copy was in postal limbo for over a week after release :c) I have mixed thoughts. Doesn't seem overall as amazing as DS1 but still a great game. Playtime is around 100 hours as well. I've gone for DEX and INT build, noticed that there seems to be a huge amount of STR weapons this time around, so looking forward to trying out a tank character, or probably a strong sunbro. PvP on this game and summoning in general seems generally much more straightforward, managed to hit rank 3 in the rat king covenant in a day or two. Ng+ already seems to have lots of surprises too.
What a fucking shitcunt of a boss. I couldn't beat him with my Hex build, I could only ever get up to the split and then it was completely out of my control. I had all these fire seeds lying around, so I pumped up a pyro flame and attuned a few pyromancies. Even with all that shit I can't reliably get to the end of the fight! the entire fucking thing seems to hinge on whether firestorm actually hits, which is like seeing a fucking unicorn in my game.
I'm probably 25 effigies down at this point all because of this stupid fucker. At least I managed to de-spawn the enemies in the cave part before the boss, so that's a small victory. I don't think I've ever been so mad at a boss in a Souls game before.

So now that I've had the game finished for a few days I've been thinking a lot about how it stacks up compared to the other games in the series. First off I think Dark Souls I and II are better than Demon's Souls by quite a bit and that was never really a tough choice for me. Early in DkS II I was feeling that it wasn't quite as good as I, but by the time I finished it I was thinking it was about equal.
Right now I think DkS II is probably my favorite in the series. The way I see it is Dark Souls I has higher highs such as the fight with O&S and discovering
Ash Lake
after a seemingly endless descent through The Depths, Blighttown, and The Great Hollow, but II is a more even game overall. II quite simply had more interesting areas towards the end of the game, not just in terms of variety but also level design, lore, and aesthetics. Honestly I can't think of many times in DkS II when I wasn't having a great time working through an area, but there were a few spots in I that gave me that feeling.
The big advantage I has over II is the cohesive world. That is something that bothered me for quite some time with II, but honestly at this point I'm mostly fine with it. While II may not have a world that is stitched together quite as well it does have more interesting and well-designed areas overall. I never got that wonderful feeling of discovering a shortcut like I did in DkS I but I still found myself incredibly intrigued by each new area I came across, and the bonfire warping did basically cut out backtracking entirely which is nice in its own way.
There are quite a few other aspects of II that I consider an improvement over I; the weapons and armor design, combat mechanics, enemy design, and lore are the main points, I'd say. For awhile I never thought II had a chance to pass I in terms of the lore, but once I found
King Vendrick deep within the bowels of the Undead Crypt in his sad and hopeless state
I started to really come around on it. I love the backstory on a lot of the areas as well, especially stuff like Aldia's Keep, The Lost Bastille, and Sinner's Rise. The same goes for many of the enemies and bosses. Just some really quality stuff.
Of course, one of the major drawing points of this series is the bosses, and in that regard I'm still a little mixed on which game is better. DkS I has my favorite fight in the series (O&S) but it still has its fair share of bosses that aren't too difficult, plus some of them are just stupid like Bed of Chaos. While DkS II wasn't quite as challenging as I would have liked in terms of bosses and may have been a bit heavy on humanoid-types I still found that each fight was very enjoyable in its own way. Looking forward to a NG+ run I can't think of a single boss that I don't want another shot at.
At the end of the day all of the Souls games are true classics in my mind and I'm just glad we got another one that did the series proud. It never fails, whenever I try to play another game after "finishing" a Souls game it just feels like it's missing something. This is a very special series that I love dearly.
Haven't tried a HEX build yet. Currently sticking with Lightning/Pyro combo. Might mix in some hexes soon. Though all I really need to do is get Int up some bit to make those scale better.
Would be interesting to use Resonant Flesh. A 20% HP boost on top of my already near 2300 would give me like 2700+ HP. lol
What's your agility stat? Attunement raises that as well? That said, your ADP is rather low and I'm sure using an estus is pretty dangerous in my most circumstances.

It sucks that Resonant Flesh only lasts for like 90 seconds or so. I roll with around 2000 HP feels just right without putting more points into Vigor. I always felt that offensive stats are more important than defense for my playstyle.
Just finished my first playthrough last night defeating every optional boss at around 65 hours.
Used a lot of Soul Vessels to play around with different builds. Never tried Hex, int or dex yet but I loved my Str/Fai build. Great/Ultra Great swords and Halberds with lightning/pyro was a blast.
I'll continue with NG+ with this character but I want to do a dual caestus or fists run using the Champions Covenant for a new character.

90 seconds is kinda short. Though you can use a ring to extend that. And 90 seconds seems like enough time for most PVP anyways from my experience. Some bosses too. lol

I finished the game with ATT and ADP in single digits. I roll as much or more than I block and I still find time to use an Estus when I need to. The slight delay in raising my shield bothers me a bit at times but otherwise I can deal with the minor cons so I'd rather put those points into other stats.
30 VIT, END, ATN, STR, INT and FTH and 12 DEX. Hexes all day.
I finally beat the bastard, got lucky when the pair of them went in for a melee attack and my Flame Swathe hit them both at once. Then I spammed Great Resonant Soul until they died! Yay magic!
Bleed seems really nerfed. It still does damage and stamina reduction but I have found poison much more useful. Fast weapon imbued with poison = most bosses destroyed other than the few poison immune ones.
. She was kinda difficult. That fucking magic spam pissed me off. Still can not beat the Triple Threat Triad. I'm also noticing I'm not seeing any summon signs/getting summoned for any boss. I'm human with low soul memory.
So I am pretty far in my first play through about to enter 2nd to last area of the game, I believe, but I haven't infused my weapon yet.... It's a +8 ultra great sword and I am wondering if there is any consensus to what would be the best infusion for it?

It's perfect as just a +10 regualr weapon. If you are going Str there is no reason to scale it to anything else. I've found some weapons scale poorly with E or D ratings even maxed. Those I tend to add an attribute to them especially with my Str/Fai I put Lightning on them and they scale B or so with it which is great.
Keep the Greatsword regualr it scales A with str and that is awesome.
