Fire Emblem doesn't seem big enough to have 3 characters, 2 of which would look very similar. I don't see Chrom as being a realistic addition.

He would replace ike, just as Ike replaced Roy. Especially likely considering Awakening was a far bigger deal in sales and mindshare than Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn combined. In a world where starfox has 3 characters in brawl and Mother has 2 fire emblem certainly merits 3.

There is absolutely no way they don't use Smash as a system seller and release it in the holiday block.

The issue here is that Smash will sell well forever, if the other 2014 releases need a release it will need to be in the fall holidays because that's their only chance to sell anything noteworthy at all. They don't look like they will be summer releases (Bayonetta, X, Hyrule Warriors). Smash releasing in the same window as them will guarantee they won't sell.

We don't really know exactly how Sakurai does it, but it definitely is not limited to one factor like popularity like you're suggesting. Considering how 4/5 newcomers revealed so far for Smash 4 have come from new series that haven't had a Smash character before. I don't see why you think it is limited to 2-3 series.

Just to be clear - I'm not trash-talking Miis (they're super cute and making them for myself, my friends, or to resemble celebrities or just look super weird is a ton of fun) or the idea of a playable one at all, it just doesn't sound like something I would enjoy. It looks like I'm alone in that, which is totally fine.

You're certainly not alone, but here's the thing; more than any other Nintendo character, more than WFT even, they are the face of an era of Nintendo. I might not consider them particularly exciting, but I can't argue they'd be a perfect choice for a Nintendo All-Star lineup. I only think they weren't in Brawl because they seem like such an obvious choice; Sakurai would probably want to make them special.

As far as FE characters go, I hope we get Avatar/Robin. If villager can get in, I don't see the problem.

Unique look and moveset potential compared to the other FE choices too. Even if they don't implement the customization options, alternate colors can change his/her hair color at least.

lol. Part of me agrees with you. I'm not a tourney / competitive supporter myself, at least not in theory. That said...letting people play any character move set ever any time opens a bit of a pandoras box and weakens the amount that characters resonate with players, no?

Yeah calling Q3 myself. If anything 3DS version could be delayed some (early 2015) but I even doubt that.

Ahh, OK. I don't agree with that sentiment either. I think they have 2 unique Fire Emblem characters and can easily add a 3rd.

Yeah, we saw how that worked with SM3DW. Unless Nintendo is able to keep a good flow of games and the momentum after MK8 nothing is a system seller. MK8 has a great mindset and produced hype. If that is transformed just in a sales peak at the end of May and nothing until November, Nintendo won't have too many income sources this year.
