Wow. What a fantastic Direct that was. So many quick and snappy disconfirmations. GRENINJA, lone Charizard (which I was beginning to expect, R.I.P my dear Squirtle), visually improved ZSS (who looks cool as hell now), alternate costume for Little Mac (meaning more are likely on the way)... j-just... just so much goodness.

And I got a good chuckle out of the Waluigi plush being used to represent the Assist Trophy cast. Well done Samurai. Well done. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch the direct again without obnoxious buffering due to a shitty school connection and dudebros going nuts.

Most of those smashboards users in the Smash 4 subforum are not reflective of the Melee competitive community or Brawl one. The Smash 4 subforum is populated with mostly casual players who get just as excited about character stuff like everyone on here does.

Reading the MIOM facebook group paints a different perspective: reacted negatively at first but then realized what the intent for the mode is.

Anyway, For Glory won't be used seriously in any capacity. Any serious online play will be between exchanging NNIDs and stuff. Just as predicted in the first place.

We don't need a grass starter neccesarily. Blaziken is a final starter that is really popular and I'd say is second to Charizard in terms of starter popularity. Granted another fire and fighting type pokemon may be a bit much. If they had to choose a grass starter it should be Sceptics with his leaf blade.
 
This Direct delivered. One thing I didn't like before and still don't like is the hit-stun that pauses the character whenever they get hit by a powerful smash. I liked it better on Melee/Project M when they would just rocket away so fast with smoke that you'd barely see them, made me really feel like I just hit the shit out of whomever. The pause seems so un-necessary, but I guess its there to make it easier to DI
 
I guess. Just silly for Sakurai to showcase combos that would otherwise be impossible sans hit-stun.

He did it all the time during for any footage of Brawl pre-release. It's nothing new, it's to make the game look good. It would look bad if the combo failed or someone air dodged out of it in the middle of it.
 
for some reason the direct brought home the fact that it's gonna be imposible to play this online comfortably from Latin America :(
 
Who wants to be in charge of the twitter campaign to tell sakurai to add more features to FOR GLORY?

We need STOCK MODE and at LEAST BATTLEFIELD added in. Final destination is ok as long as sometimes platforms appear in preset patterns (battlefield style, animal crossing style, etc).

Time mode makes it so fast characters can land ONE hit and then just run away.
Final destination only makes it so a ton of characters aren't even viable.

What do we call it, how do we get them to notice? They're always so close to doing it right, but fall just too short.

Even if they can't get it in by launch, they can at least work on it and patch it in later :(



Also, where are those other pictures coming from!? press kit?
 
From the bits and pieces of gameplay shown in the Direct, what does everyone think about the game speed and character movement in general?
 
I don't think everyone revealed will be starters.

I think these will be unlockable:
- Megaman
- Toon Link
- Rosalina
- Lucario
- Greninja
- Luigi
- Sonic

The only one of that group I see as a starter is Lucario, but he was unlockable in Brawl (for some reason) and they haven't really changed that for other characters (besides Ness and Falcon once)

I bumped Marth to starter. He's deserved to be a starter since Melee, might as well not even bother locking him.

Also: Palutena's Temple best stage confirmed. Looks much closer to Zelda Temple than New Pork City.

You're talking about hitlag here, not hitstun. Hitlag is the moment of pause that gives players reaction time to DI. Hitstun is the instance that takes place after hitlag has occurred where you can DI but you're incapable of air dodging, jumping, attacking, or anything for x amount of frames. And just for more information, the state after hitstun is called "tumble", where you can do anything out of it and is the moment where a character is simply falling/drifting after hitstun has ended.

So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing. Bowser and Yoshi's changes look great, and finally have caught up more to how these characters have been portrayed in Mario games in the last generation.

Needs to also add a tag team playlist to both for fun and for glory
 
It's a step up from that, it's just not anywhere near the level of typical modern online. I think people forget just how limited online was in Nintendo games that long ago.

Hopefully they'll be fully up to speed by the time the Wii U's successor comes out.

Spectator mode for 3DS would be great though Sakurai pls
