Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

I think the Ruined Sentinels were the first major wall I hit as a new player. Plus three of them together was a real pain. The Skeleton Lords were also crazy hard at first because I just kept killing them all at once and spawned every fucking skeleton at once. Now they're pretty painless even in NG+.

But learning their patterns or gimmicks is all part of the process.
I wish I could see stats on how many times I died on each boss, haha. Ruin Sentinels would be near the top for sure, along with The Rotten (don't judge me), Darklurker, Ancient Dragon, Royal Rat Authority, and Vendrick. Nothing would top
Mytha before I knew you could drain the poison
, though. :(

Yeah, I mean I don't think there are any bosses as tough as O&S in II but most of Dark Souls I really isn't that bad once you're used to the mechanics and everything. And I can't act like I didn't die a bunch in II anyway, haha. The difficulty felt pretty good to me other than some of the bosses that were just oddly easy.

Also, random comparison fact: Dark Souls I has 22 bosses (26 with DLC) and Dark Souls II has 31.

Not many memorable fights though. I can count them on one hand.

I am having trouble with hidden doors. Door that look like you're supposed to interact with them. Are are a few in the Lost Bastille and in Harvest Valley, in the poison cave there is one at the bottom and no other way out. I had to Homeward Bone to get out of there while there was a very obvious door-like shape in the stone. I've tried hitting them and firebombing them but nothing works.

On another issue: in the Lost Bastille there is a treasure on the top of a wall. You can see it once you step out of the Steady Hand McDuff bonire. The wall in question is on your left and the treasure is above and behind that first undead jailer. It matches up with that high section of wall where the Heide Knight is but looks blocked off. Is there a trick?

Many thanks for any help with this questions.

The lack of badass boss intros really annoyed me. They do sometimes add a bit of personality to them and also make them seem super badass. I think they spent more time making FMVs for Gilligan setting up a stupid ladder than making a boss intro.

I have fond memories of most of them. Nothing on the level of O&S, though.

Press X (or 360 equivalent) to open hidden doors, attacking them does nothing now

After the area boss, up the tower, there's an illusory wall in an alclove by a metal grate (room has loads of vases in it)

In the corridor that becomes accessible after opening the wall (press X or Xbox equivalent, don't hit) there is another illusory wall. After that, there's a jump to a piece of loot.

From there, there's a small ridge that runs along a few buildings, and will eventually take you to the loot you're after

What happens if you try writing a message somewhere that would interfere with a hidden door?

I really liked the LS intro.

The hidden door takes priority.

My favorite boss intro I think was the rotten. Seeing him trying to create those statues was kind of like looking at him trying to create life/humanity and failing at it. Which causes him to get enraged and BOOM you're fighting that corpsey mofo now.

yea, considering how disturbing his design was, they made a pretty amusing intro for him.

Yes, that one was great.

Looking Glass Knight and Darklurker really should have had intros. :(

Yup, optional Chariot boss gets a damn intro but not Looking Glass? Who decided these things?

Oh god so true. Of al the things that get a cutscene. Might even be longer then the final cutscene lol

Velstadt's is very cool. My favourite.

I really wish there was more intro's. Going back to Demons and Dark Souls the intros were just better and felt like much more of them.

I wish the Demon of Song had an intro because it was a really cool design. Could of been a tenor voice all creepy and dark to offset the woman singing in that area.

Ok guys, did I encounter a bug or am I missing something?

I am doing the dark chasm of old stuff. I did the part in
Drangleic Castle
and upon compeltion, after having lit the thingy, I got the "you ranked up in the covenant". Then I went to
Black Gulch
and did the same thing but I didn't get the ranking up message when I got out, wtf?

Possibilities:
* I had an enemy with me when I entered the dark chasm here so maybe that made a bug or something
* the bonfire here is level 2 (I used an ascetic to get another soul of the giant)
* I actually have to complete the third one and then I'll get level 2; then to encounter
darklurker
I'll have to repeat one again?

Please help :( human effigies are scarce :(

Rank 2 requires finishing all 3 levels. Rank 3 requires dark lurker kill.

There is one in the shaded woods. and you have to light the certain thing in there.

Rank 1 is completing 1 of them. Rank 2 is completing all of them. Rank 3 is Darklurker.

I liked the boss designs for the most part. Only a few of them were really lame.

Even the mini bosses like the congregation for kind of funny from a gameplay perspective

Got through
No Man's Wharf
yesterday. It wasn't so bad once
I got the light switch
. Oneshotted the boss, and amusingly I had to swap to my off-hand weapon (I'm dual wielding with the occasional shield use) because my right-hand weapon got close to breaking halfway through the fight.

I also found the
Guts greatsword
here, and it really strikes home something my girlfriend's been commenting on about this game.

Do the heavy weapons in this game feel a bit off to anyone else? I mean things like greatswords, halbreds and so on. I see that they're faster, but somehow their animation/sound design doesn't make them feel as meaty as heavy weapons did in DS1. I mean, the greatsword's R2 looks and feels great, but the R1 is missing something, and I've noticed a similar floatiness in several moves of most other heavy weapons either. It's kinda disappointing and takes away from the satisfaction of smashing people with huge, heavy weapons.

I liked the boss designs for most part. But I never really played Demon Souls or Dark Souls.

I really liked the design of the final boss. I just was a little disappointed by how the fight went.

Please get to it before you get rid of your PS3.

I actually own both already. Bought them when I bought a PS3 about 2 years ago :)

I just never played more then an hour in either. I liked both, just never gave myself the time to really get into it like I did for this game. Prob go back now and play those two.

Why ismy GSR doing only 600 damage to bosses? Oh yeah GSR is so good! Yeah, it's so super amazing that it does a whooping 600 damage to bosses, and flame swathe does 500 with a +6 pyro glove. Woo fucking hoo! Lucatiel is absolutely and utterly useless. I swear to fucking god, she died right when I finished the boss off. Why is she so useless? Why is Hexing so useless? I thought hexing was supposed to be good, but, it's not. I have a +9 Archdrake Chime, and 30/30 FTH and INT and I hardly do any damage with my chimes. I even infused it with dark and it only upped 100 damage. I don't understand how you people are able to do thousands of damage to bosses with GSR.

I just don't see how it's possible. Unless you people are all on NG+ and have super high stats, I fail to see how hexing is powerful. Unless it was nerfed.

Speaking of Lucatiel, I encountered a glitch with her yesterday.

Her helmet is the hat and mask combo right? Yesterday I saw her with just the hat and no mask. I haven't done her storyline so I'm not sure if this changes but the first time I met her in Lost Bastille and Earthen Peak she had a mask on.

Flexile sentries are one of the more interesting boss designs shame a majority of the boss weapons are worth squat though.

That happened to me at no man's wharf but she took her whole hat off to show me her face.

If you exhausted her dialogue then you're doing her storyline. Beating three bosses with her is just a different aspect.

She had her mask off when I talked to her in Aldia Keep.

Yea, she takes off her mask in a few meetings. Not a glitch.

600 damage seems pretty damn good man, especially if you can do that quickly, multiple times, Flame Swath has limited casts and can be tough to hit with sometimes. I wish I could do 600+ on my MLGS heh

On a weapon infused with Poison, Does any poison damage make it past shields and can you poison a player/enemy like that even if they are blocking a lot of the shots.

Velstadt's is very cool. My favourite.
Undead Crypt felt like a Demon's Souls area to me, the look of it at least, and when you walk through the boss fog and see Velstadt looking like Garl Vinland, that was a wow moment for me. I don't like too many of the bosses in DS2, but that one was a great reveal.

The Rotten intro is cool too, but maybe I'm too busy fighting but I don't really like his character model in the fight. Nothing stands out to me it's just a blob with a sword you have to strafe and avoid. The detail and bodies you see in the intro don't really stand out. In fact the shape of it just reminds me of a giant plague baby.

Actually reminded me of the Penetrator intro for some reason.

I hate Soul Memory as I'm being summoned less and less these days.

And I've spent most of my souls buying things I'll never use.

I'm having the hardest time getting the
Pharros Lockstone
from the Huntsman Copes. Every time I land from my jump I roll forward off the cliff. I've seen Videos where people don't roll after a jump but I can't seem to duplicate that.

Imagine the stuff they will be able to do with Rotten style enemies on PS4 in the future. They will be able to have amazing looking textures so it will look more like he really is made of corpses DURING the fight.

Not saying a PS4 port of this game, but a hypothetical Dark Souls 3 is exciting

What secret is this? I don't think I know about this spot.

Drop down from above! No jumping required therefore praise the sun!

Are you still in NG? I'd recommend going into NG+. Soul Memory isn't as much an issue, unless it gets rather large, like 12m+ large, then might become an issue in less popular areas.
