Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

A lot of people are. PS3 DKS1 pvp is pretty lively right now. Once again Forest, Undead Burg and Oolacile township are the places I would recommend.

DKS2 PvP is a MASSIVE disappointment. I don't think its something patches can even fix.

Scaling is a joke. A joke. Sun Sword has A/A scaling. Yes A/A. If this was any other Souls game this would be a godly weapon. Claymore had C/C scaling in DKS1 and at 40/40 was a murdering beast. Well heres the joke:

Sun Sword (40/40): 290 1H ----- 348 2H
Sun Sword (40/13): 256 1H ----- 307 2H

Yes the difference between 13 DEX and 40 DEX gives a boost of 40 AR and this is at A scaling. A scaling! Most weapons are C.

Elementals are overpowered. Higher dmg, and can be buffed with more powerful buffs.

Secondly the poise/stunlock system is also a joke. Dark Souls had poise, and it roughly made sense. Demons Souls had no poise but the stunlocking was something only available to certain weapons and certain attack patterns.

DKS2 you have a hilarious poise system where fists can break poise even when wearing full havels. On top of this you have constant stunlocking with no way of getting out. DKS1 had the toggle escape. In Demons Souls you couldn't escape however the stunlocking there is a fraction of how frequent it is in DKS2.

Now the stuff above can be fixed, with a massive overhaul, however there are fundamental mechanic problems in DKS2.

1) Hitboxes are just plain wrong. This isn't a lag issue as it only occurs with certain weapons and attacks.

2)Movement. So many players have complained how sluggish DKS2 is. Just playing Demons Souls or even Dark Souls gives a massive sense of how slow DKS2 is. I was pretty upset coming from DeS seeing how everything was slowed down including movesets and now they have done it again. I see the latest patch has improved strafing speed but they are going to have to do more than that.

All in all the longevity of this game is dead to me. PvP was the reason why I continued playing these games for 3 years+. Thats why I'm going back to DkS or even DeS with the occasional community event. I see certain pvp youtubers feel the same and are doing the same thing as well.

My last few pvp sessions really frustrated me because of mostly these points. The stunlocking is ridiculous indeed. There is absolutely no reason to use a big, slow weapon with a high burst damage when you can just use a longsword and mash R1 all day. Also, as you said some hitboxes for certain weapons and attacks are crazy. Add to that a general lag and a running R1 with a katana basically doubles its range for the opponent. I really hope From can do something about this.

With the movement I have no problems at all. Everything feels fluid to me so I don't know what the problem is. Some animations have higher recovery/startup times but that's just a thing you need to get used to, not an inherent flaw. Same with the scaling. It's generally lower than DS1 but DS1 shouldn't be the standard here.

DS1 got the scaling right in the end. In DS2 you should always go elemental, especially with how weapon buffs work now. And since they are basically free there is no reason not to use one. Pair with great magic barrier and you have your standard DS2-build. It's the opposite of DS1 were most people would go pure melee in the end.

I'm getting invaded constantly by arbiter spirits in Iron Keep on NG+ and often end up killed. I do have quite a large sin from NG, but I thought it would drop if you get killed several times... Is this (in)correct?

TBH scaling was fucked in DS1 too at launch. I still don't know how they managed to repeat that though.

Yes, the sin will drop each time you are killed. It will only drop one point of sin per time you are killed though, so it depends on how much sin you have racked up from NG.

Nope, your Sin should be gone after a certain amount of deaths to Sentinels. Depends on how much Sin you have accumultated.

Today i experienced my first "Mega-Lag". I saw an invader running toward me, i ran away, i was maybe 10-20 meters away from him. Then suddently in an instant i was "teleported" to him and backstabbed. I've seen this on a Youtube video too. Is just just big lag or is it some form of cheat? When the guy ran towards me, everything looked normal, i didnt notice any lag then.

Thanks, good to know. Still haven't reach the pardoner dude, so can't say what the sin is now, ugh...

Generally lower is an understatement. Its almost non existent. a B scaling in DKS would give you 150 extra AR while an A scaling scaling gives you 40 AR. Cannot you not see how stupid that is.

There is virtually no point in having 40 DEX/STR and it homogenises the builds in DKS2. It greatly encourages people to use infusion and magic resulting in far less variety in pvp.

Is there any point in being a melee build? The answer is no.

Oh and now weapon buffs don't scale with stats and you can bring stats for miracles down to 10/10. Its like having DMB with only 10 FTH and being able to do the same dmg as someone with 50 FTH.

Some people are thinking its poor network coding, because thats not how lag usually looks. Usually they teleport all of a sudden or have jumpy movements but what you described is weird indeed.

man, doing bellkeeper's invasions/pvp with GRS and GRW, literally destroying almost everyone. not sure why they didn't nerf this crap.

I realized that staying between 65% - 70% of weight isn't really great for pvp so I was wondering, what's a good light piece of armor worth upgrading?

I've had similar "fights". They're pretty rare for me so I usually just add that up to bad connections to the server. I've heard some stories about a "lag switch" cheat thing some people use in online games. No idea what that is or if it exists though. :P

Oh definately. In terms of build variety the scaling does change things a lot to the worse. You're right. I was mainly thinking of how fights play out. Maybe From thought lowering the damage output would make for longer fights...and then they made the same mistake with elemental weapons that they originally did in DS1.
I sill don't know how they would just repeat the same mistake by making elementals so powerful.

The weapon buff system I completely agree on. It doesn't really work the way it is. Making an already powerful weapon (compared to pure melee) even more overpowered instead of providing a buff to your weaknesses is just dumb.
Then again these thing wouldn't be that much of a problem if poise wasn't so damn useless. The difference between no poise and a shitload of poise is so small you don't even notice. Many fights just come down to who hits first and who can spam R1 longer. That I'm having more success in pvp with dual caestuses than with a greatsword surely can't be intended. Even if I hit with the greatsword it doesn't do much more damage since I can usually only get this one hit in before my opponent can roll again as the thing is so slow and doesn't stunlock any more than a dagger would apparently.

Some design decisions for pvp just oppose each other too much I think. If the intent was to balance the easier stunlocking with lower general damage output then making elemental weapons so powerful just makes no sense.

It was, though they eventually found a pretty decent balance. Even if they manage to balance out the scaling in DS2 I think they need to rethink weapon buffs as well or it just won't matter.

Alva set:

Light at 20.8 for the full set and well worth upgrading to the max pretty much armor you can use through the whole game if you want. It looks good mixed with royal soldier stuff too.

Lion Warrior's Cape. Gotta show em your nips.

I get those kind of lag teleports too. Rather annoying.

Anyways, I had some good PvP yesterday with min lag. I do feel like I'm slowly getting better.

I also dumbly lost 650k souls. Woops!

Feels like I'm alone on this but I don't like the look of the Alva set. For me it's not even close to previous sets in the same style

If FROm wanted to make battles last longer then they wouldn't include magics and pyromancy that can do 2k damage. Also rings like Ring of Thorns and Old Sun Ring.

I think its pretty obvious how FROM managed to mess up on elementals again. The team that worked on this game were not the original team. Its just my speculation and only explanation I can think of since I find it crazy how they could make the same mistake to an even larger extent after people complained about it in the prequel and they brought out a patch for it.

They also wouldn't give weapons such an insanely high crit damage. An unbuffed dagger can inflict up to 3600 damage on a critical strike (900 of it being Phantom- damage), which is just ridiculous. Even a rapier with a hornet ring in DKS1 didn't come close to that.

Man.. What is with invaders with disconnecting from an invasion? I didn't even know you could return to your world while invading someone else. Seems kinda cheap and chicken to me. You'd think FROM would disable that. Hopefully they get sin for that.

You could do that in the first I think you just use the separation crystal that's what it's for. Or trying to co-op with someone you can bail if another person summons you.

OT 3: If it's not fixed break it some more.

No idea if it's because of the patch, but my Xbox is constantly freezing up now, three times in a row now during the very end of the prowling magus fight.

I of course get that with co-op. But if you're invading someone, at least have the balls to stick around.

If you're invading a 3 man gank squad I can understand it, but not a 1v1 battle. That's weak, yeah.

The worst I've experienced is a guy who summoned me to the Iron Keep bridge for a duel (I was Dragon covenant), we fought in melee for a while until he went below 40% health and I was still above 70% health. He just disconnected.

Is it just me, or does the screen tearing on the 360 seem to be better since the patch? Maybe it's because I haven't played the game in a week, but it seems to be much less noticeable now.

It depends really if you come up against someone who is obviously better equipped than you then it makes sense to bail out really. Not to mention 1 against 2 or 3 isn't exactly fun.

Other than the title screen and the Majula theme I can't remember anything about the music.

That's what you get when there's no music for hours and then only for a few minutes during boss fights. And listening to the music is the last thing on my mind at that moment..

I didn't notice the boss music either cuz I was too busy surviving. But yea, listen to it in a LP or OST rip on YT. the OST is pretty kickass.

Disconnecting from a ganking of 2+ more people waiting for you, I understand.

I had two people disconnect from me yesterday from The Harvest within a minute or so of them showing up. Not sure why, they never even saw me, never even saw them. Wasn't even hidden. Was at the sunbro statue.

Had another this morning while I was at Dragon Shrine. Though this I do understand a little. To be an ass, I ran across the giant bridge and waited for him. Instead of facing me, he just disconnected. I think he invaded again and did it again. Cheap tactic? Sure. But really, anything goes in invasions. After all, this isn't a duel. You are unwelcomed. I will set up a trap.

Woah, just completed A.D. on NG++ in someone's game with 3 people. Noone even got seriously hurt. Nice.
And again! With same phantom too. haha

Bernhardt and Lucatiel are done, thank you casul nerfpatch.

Now onto the magic collecting grind. The final pain: darklurker -_-

I tried out the Flame Greatsword + Flame Weapon yesterday like someone recommended, and man it does so much damage. I, stupidly, immediately decided to go and fight Smelter Demon again, which obviously wasn't a good decision.

k I'll give those sets a look.

by the way is there any tournament or something similar for pvp? Would be fun to do, we could try to do one too.

I am surprised at how many people I see are complaining about the nerf in the Shrine of Amana. That area was a legitimate nightmare for melee users. Not everyone knows about the bow and arrows. The entire game is still difficult for the most part. Shrine of Amana is just one small section in the game.

I haven't played since the new patch, what's the nerf?

Now I found out why everything was so goddamn hard. I had joined Company of Champions. Which makes it way harder and you can't summon other people for help. Damn. After I left that one for the Way of the blue, it is much easier.

I haven't played since the new patch, what's the nerf?
Decreased the range and tracking of those mage ladies so you can actual move more than 10 feet without having to turtle your way with havel's greatshield or the rebel one. It's awful area for pure melee player the mace guys are fine not the mages though.

Co-oping at Dragon's Shrine is a pretty good place to get souls in NG++. Gotten 1 million within like 30 minutes or so. Now at level 323 with 38,000,000 SM. I think I will attempt to get to level 400.

Here is my current stats/look: This is with Life Ring +2 & Third Dragon Ring equipped.

Got one last fight with Benhart to get his achievement. Going to try GL for that. All I have left to do for Lucatiel's is talk to her. Almost to the point where I can do that. Doing these two achievements on NG+ have been really interesting, especially the LG Knight fight.

I can confirm that WotG still does massive damage. Took out a guy yesterday and today with one shot. Does seem slower though.

Yup, it's much easier to avoid than before, which is all I could ask for. It dealing damage is ok (not a one shot on everyone, just low hp people).

Kind of related, I just got invaded by someone. He tried to use Wrath of God on me. I dodged one and got hit by one, and I dropped to 40% health when he used it, my max health is 1837. I had GMB on, though. He dropped 400k souls when I killed him. It's based on SL, right? I wonder how high level he was.
