Fighting Games Weekly | April 21-27 | Easter EG Hunting

That Guy ex tatsu cancel... WTF, looks like some mugen stuff. If that's something working as intended I want to be able to cancel special moves into themselves too. Hell, Akuma and Cammy can already do it, I want to be able to cancel sumo splash into hands or thunder knuckle into seismo/superjump Kappa
?

huh, this is not looking good for USF4.
Can someone please make a fighting game that is :

1. Balanced
2. Does not have a retarded artstyle(skull girls)
3. Fun to play and watch
4. Has good online

..it's easy right?

Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

#2 and #3 are too subjective though.

Virtua Fighter 5 FS seems to fit that.

1: Sometimes we hate the bad matchups but also revel in beating them.
2: Subjective. I don't think thats the right word to use. I don't like Skullgirls art style either.
3. One is not like the other. Sim vs Sagat match is so grindy and intense but people will walk and leave while I relish this matchup. I hate playing against fuerte but love watching it.
4. USA infrastructure am cry.

Also Killer Instinct now that I think about it. It's not the best in each category but it meets minimum demands of each.

1) Fairly well balanced but I guess not that hard to do when there aren't that many characters.
2) Artstyle is fine, I find it better than Injustice's artstyle.
3) Seems fun to play by most account not as fun to watch but still fairly watchable.
4) By most account it has very solid online.

fails at fun to watch though. So does Tekken for that matter. And into response of skullgirls, I actually don't dislike the artstyle that much, but you can't deny that is pretty off putting to a significant amount of people.

You shoud've just said "not a 3D fighter" and saved us the trouble.

Your only option is Killer Instinct now.

To that I'll add:
#5 Is on a platform people want to buy.

Also, I think it's possible to make a 3d fighter that is fun to watch. I think that Soul Calibur and DOA are actually fun to watch.

I don't think anyone should be surprised if there are a bunch of issues with Ultra - Capcom made a ton of changes all at once. I'm hoping that the plan for the game included a v.2014 balance patch because I'd be shocked if this game doesn't need it after people have a few months to explore.

I really wish they would embrace balance patching instead of "updates". Just give each game one balance patch 6 months after it comes out.

Looks like there won't be a Captivate this year, last year was the first year they cancelled.
Capcom has said they see no point in the event anymore since there are so many other venues year round for announcing things.

TBH I agree. It's one of those events where a shitload if money is thrown at jet lagged journalists just because. Seems way too expensive for a company of Capcom's size.

Has it been recepted well in Japan. I've watched a few videos and the damage looks ridiculous.

Damage is very fair in the game IMO, not sure which videos you watched.

Game is received extremely well in Japan for its balance and for being fun. It's very popular right now in the arcades.

They aren't going to reveal anything before E3 really. You are wasting your time anticipating anything before that.

And it's probably going to be RE7.

Call me crazy, but I will be surprised if Capcom doesn't announce any new fighter on E3 this year.

Besides Ono already said last year they were hiring people to work on a new fighting game and Capcom saying they want to make a stronger presence in the fighting game market, they are now supporting fighting games now more than ever!

This is the 3rd year in a row that they are making big official tournaments all around the globe and, if they are still doing it, and making it bigger every year (damn, CapcomFighters had 50k people watching Decapre's reveal live, and Amazon was sponsoring NCR's CPT tourney this past weekend, that's pretty big), then it's working out for them.

And follow me on this one: first year doesn't count much since it was SF's anniversary, so they only supported SF games, but last year they had their 3 current games on the line-up, this year it's ONLY SFIV, that meaning they only count SFIV as a "current" Capcom fighter.

TL:DR: they are investing in fighting games like never before, and right now, to then, there's only one Capcom fighter around. There's no reason for them to stop doing these Capcom tourneys, and I also don't think they'll run it next year with only one fighter again, so....yeah, I may be too hopeful, but I have a point!

I suspect the next-gen FG may be related to why USF4 on PS4 hasn't been announced yet. Given Dead Rising 3, I could totally see Sony playing hardball on an exclusive like that.

I pity those who can't appreciate a good VF match. Anyway, this thread is sounding really whiny right now with these checklists of unrelated elements.

Ironic that people are listing things they want in a fighting game when they don't even play the games to begin with.

I'll never understand this. Virtua Fighter is like none stop in your face action, Tekken is super explosive, & Soul Calbur has got a great measured pace. How do people find these games boring to watch when Street Fighter has some of the most boring & teadius match ups to watch in all of fightinf games. Wasn't there a round yesterday where no one even blocked an attack till 30 seconds in?

Not only is Ultra less than a week old, it's even the arcade version, so no one can even freely play the game they want to to test this out.

Way too damn early to even be complaining.

It's an attempt to disguise "games I don't like"

I love playing MTG, but the game is pretty objectively terrible as a spectator game and you have to do a lot of work to make it watchable. Not all games are created equal.

At some point, people need to get over whatever complaints they have regarding art style, balance, and other subjective items. No game will ever be perfect, people will always find some kind of unattractive quality to complain about, especially on the internet.
