Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Smash is tricky for DLC because there's arguments to be made for either side. It can definitely extend a game's life, but I can also see the argument that people still play Melee and Brawl and those connections either didn't exist or will soon be shut down. Those games are inherently harder to archive for consumers.

On the other hand, such an idea could appeal to Nintendo. Forced obsolescence? It's a game publisher's dream!
Just release a GOTY Edition (or Definitive Edition, or Complete Edition, or whatever) compiling all of the DLC once all of the DLC is released.

Blaziken is cool, but hella redundant. It would make Isaac fans sad if Blaziken got in and he didn't.
I dont see how he would be any more redundant than all the sword users we had in Brawl.
Blaziken has no reason to get in. If we get a third starter it needs to be a Grass-Type.
Blaziken was the only starter outside the kanto trio to get a mega evolution. Its still pretty heavily marketed and popular. More than likely there will be 3rd gen remakes soon as well. I see good reasons for him to be in but i guess it comes down to many factors. Id be good with Sceptile as the grass starter. I think its probably the most well equipped for Smash of the grass starters available and 2nd most popular behind Venusaur. Its strange how pokemon company missed the boat on marketing Sceptile. He was very popular in the anime.

Although I dont think we will get a third starter. I think we will have Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Lucario, Charizard, Greninja and Mewtwo.

It's a shame to see what Pac-Man has been reduced to, but let's not forget what he really is. A legend. And Sakurai will make him look like one, just like he did with Mega Man.

This is more about his design since most are not a fan of it.

His design isn't that bad. Just some questionable choices that people inflate for the sake of drama. Only problem would be if his character used the cartoons voice, which can be grating

I think he doesn't. Or he wants a full game at launch more than using DLC to complete it. If he has no time to add all the content in the game before launch, he'd rather delay the game. We've seen examples.

Smash is directed by Sakurai, not EAD, Nintendo can decide how they'll sell Mario golf, Miyamoto can make DLC stages for his own game. But they wont ask Sakurai to add DLC in Smash, too risky for such big title.

Yes, Sakurai has stated that although he's not against the idea of DLC, there won't be any consideration for it until after Smash 4 is complete. He could also do balance patches.

I don't really like the idea of DLC for Smash but balance patches is one thing I hope they consider if the game takes off for the competitive community.

I think it is less hate and more indifference. People would rather have another character represent Namco.

You've been here long enough to know people don't like the Ghostly Adventures version of Pacman.

Haha, you got me. :P

I seriously doubt that Sakurai would pick that version of Pac Man. I'm pretty sure that Sakurai would go with Pac Man version from Mario Kart Arcade.

I think it's less hate and more of a lack of interest. Pac-Man is just not that exciting a character prospect for Smash, especially when compared to Snake, Sonic, and Mega Man.
People will get hype when they see that Pac-Man's final smash turns everyone else into ghosts, and he goes into a super fast 2D form that runs around eating them for points. The rest will not matter.

Pac-Man's name was originally Puck-Man, referring to his round body. It was changed because of obvious vandalism concerns.

Pac-Man is also THE most recognized video game character by Americans, ahead of Mario and Sonic. So him being in Smash is probably a big pucking deal.

I was gonna say something, and then I was distracted by that Vita YouTube comment. Ouch.

I'm not too worried about Pac-man's design cause I feel like Sakurai would give him a classic design much like he did with megaman.

I think people have a good reason to be worried. He didn't go with the classic Sonic design and instead went with the modern design which was also Sonic's design in his recent games. I think Sakurai had freedom with Mega Man because Capcom hasn't really done anything recently with Mega Man. I'm assuming it's because Sega asked Sakurai to use the modern design and Capcom just didn't care since they didn't use Mega Man and have no Mega Man games coming up. If Namco does have any say in Pac-Man's design, it's more than likely going to be the one that would be inline with their current Pac-Man title.

The difference is that Mega Man Classic's design has been basically unchanged for over 25 years, while Sanic, a character who has had major design changes over the years, used his modern design, so I'd assume the same would be true for Pac.

Just rewatched all the trailer/reveal videos. They're so well done. Editing, music, humor, little details, hype effects, everything is so good.
Whoever is coming up with these should handle the entirety of Nintendo's videos.
