I gotta go with basketball. Running and many times, sprinting and changing direction through many series. You also a need decent vertical leap for both defending and shooting. And strength is another great diffentiator--see Lebron James, who takes the lane like a truck.

The NFL has a lot of genetic freaks in various positions, and some of the fastest--see Deion Sanders. But the overweight lineman kill the average.

I think Hockey also is up there since it's incredibly physically demanding.

Every time this comes up it's always *my favourite sport*.

That said, it's hockey, my favourite sport.

I actually prefer Baseball and Football (American). Although I enjoy all three. I've played all three growing up as well.

I hate to be the one who answers like this, but what do you mean by best? If you mean strength then NFL or rugby or boxing or sumo...

Speed and agility? Then basketball, track and soccer are all good options.

Endurance? Then marathon running or cycling has the best.

Definitely cricketers. Just look at Inzamam Ul-Haq.

Funnily enough, playing test cricket for 5 days straight in the subcontinent or australian summer does require some level of endurance...the bowlers have to run up constantly for their overs and perform, whether with the new ball or the old, and they have to field when they aren't bowling too...I don't know how Inzamam got out of circuit training though...

Hockey. Dexterity, strength, accuracy, agility and the ability to skate backwards while fighting off a 250 lb man while juggling a puck.

Overall I would think.

Think about creating an obstacle course that tests all of those. Which athletes would do best without dedicated training?

I'm going to say football. Running backs and linebackers in particular are usually great all-around athletes in terms of speed, conditioning, AND strength.

Got to be Basketball.

I would have thought so, but when fights break out they throw punches like girls. And Swaggy P trying to throw a pitch? Please.

For all-around athlete, something less obvious probably. Like Track. decathalon is too obvious, but there you go.

I'd say basketball. Soccer / World Football is a close #2 because it requires crazy amounts of stamina, but basketball I think requires more balance between strength and stamina.

Well most people can't throw a decent punch. It's not an innate skill. Boxers and MMA athletes spend years perfecting punching.

Soccer. Running for 45 minutes straight is very hard.

Soccer: 90 minutes of play time. 15 minutes of ads.
Football: 15 minutes of play time. 3 hours of ads.

Football.

Stamina and endurance for running are wildly overrated traits compared to the stamina necessary for a 280 pound defensive end to engage 310+ pound blockers and move them, disengage, chase down other large or fast men, etc. 60+ times a game.

I'd say someone like a medium-sized rugby player...They're big enough to be strong, can be pretty agile when they're darting in and out of other guys who are flying into them like human missiles. They're also playing for 80 minutes straight, so they've got the endurance too.

True. Also they probably don't really want to fight as they'll be fined/ejected. Just always funny seeing athletes outside their comfort zone.

Besides, deep in the soul of every man lies the heart of a killer.

Professional sports entertainers. Fantastic physiques, no days off, take a beating every night.

I'd say Basketball for the best athleticism.

But skill wise, its baseball. Basketball's best all time player couldn't even make it to the majors.

It depends on how you define athlete.

I'd say NFL has the best athletes. They have to be stronger, faster, and more physical. The competition is ridiculous and they will lose their spot on the team if someone is stronger or faster.

Michael Vick in his prime with the Falcons was faster than anybody on the field.
Terrell Owens was a freak
Rob Gronkowski

These people are superhumans compared to other athletes as far as I'm concerned.

Lebron is an exception because he is tall, fast, and built like a brick shithouse.

Not only that but getting a hit 30 percent of the time for a few years and you're a HOF.

Tracy McGrady is now pitching in the minor leagues. Lets wait and see how he fares.

Also, Basketball has the best athletes, but tennis is the most physically demanding.
