Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Which is based on the games now, as opposed to before.

But they're also all present in the games first and foremost. That second part is simply untrue.

The basis for the voice is the anime. That hasn't changed, because the basis for the voice in the games is still the anime.

To your second statement, I say:

There's no way we don't get commentary from Pit and co. as this game's secret conversations. Uprising's conversations were already written and paced like the Brawl codecs.

How are there definitely two Mewtwo in the canon of the main Pokémon games? When is that ever implied? Why can't it be the same Mewtwo?

When it comes to Legendary Pokémon appearing in other regions, I've just always assumed that they've migrated there for whatever reason. It's never exactly made canon that they were captured before, after all.

Yeah I don't recall there being any mention of XY Mewtwo's origins at all. I don't see any reason to believe it's supposed to be a different one.

And the game's voice now is based on the anime, so, if anything, the Pokemon games are moving towards the anime instead of Smash moving towards the games.
It's not though. Smash is moving towards the games, look at the new final Smashes and stages.

Because it's in a different location, and because the anime backs up that they're different characters.

That's cut.

Mega Evolutions appear in the anime (they're a focal point of the upcoming film, actually), and the stages have always been based on the games (Saffron City, Spear Pillar). Smash isn't "moving towards" anything -- Pokémon representation is the same as it's always been.

That's a limitation of the hardware. Greninja has no claws to cut with normally, so he needs something to cut with. We know he can make weapons (Shuriken), and he makes one to cut. It's Cut.

It's not a limitation of the hardware when they can give all the starters unique animations for the signature moves. The only weapon that's stated is specifically shuriken/throwing stars in the Pokedex entries.

The water sword is either completely manufactured, or a product of its inevitable anime appearance.

Cut isn't a signature move of Greninja, so it doesn't get a unique animation. The move description clearly states that it uses a claw or scythe. Greninja has neither, so he has to make one. The move is clearly Cut.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that, if Mewtwo gets in, he'll be in his base form and have Mega Mewtwo Y as a Final Smash, much like Charizard seems to have Mega Charizard X as his.

god dammit, this actually makes sense.

I do NOT want that design anywhere near my Smash. Use the X-form plz.

It's also been described as:

A basic attack. It can be used to cut down thin trees and grass.
A Normal-type attack. Also used for cutting small bushes to open new paths.
Cuts the foe with sharp scythes, claws, etc.

And with that you're also willfully ignoring that some Pokemon have up to five different animations for various attacks. If the games wanted water swords, the games would have water swords.

water kodachis are the number one reason that I am really interested in Greninja

and its Final Smash borrowed from Valkenhayn looks cool P:

Greninja uses those water swords in his side smash, up smash, front air, and a bunch of other attacks. Do you really think the official strategy guide is going to say "Cut" for all of those?
Is there any reason it can't? What does it say for things like Pikachu's jab A?

That's a ridiculous amount of time to apply to every "cut" move for a single Pokemon. It's an unnecessary addition. Your definition of cut matches mine, I don't know what you're trying to say.

Sakurai gives every single attack an official name, and for all of the Pokémon, most of the attacks are completely fictitious. There's no reason to believe Greninja will be any different.

Are you 3DS buyers going to be downloading the game or buying the cartridge?

I haven't bought any physical game yet so i think i'll do that so the game slot isn't empty.

Download unless the boxart is really good or there is some kind of physical bonus. Easier to not have to switch carts.

Until they start tying digital game purchases to accounts rather than to systems, I'll always buy physical when it's an option.

Beezlebufo is going to go out with flames lol.

Mega Evolutions are not only a reference to the games.

Pikachu always had its voice in the anime and in Smash. It now has it in Pokemon games as well

Differentiating different Mewtwos is weird cause there is nothing in the games to base their differences on, only the movies/anime and that specifically doesn't refer to "Cerulean"/"Kalos" Mewtwo.

Froakie is Ash's Kalos starter. Greninja is the final evolution of Froakie.

Mega Charizard X has its appearance in Pokemon Origins and is the main Mega Evolution used by that guy in the new XY special focused on Mega Evolutions.

Lucario is a popular Pokemon mascot and Mega Lucario is featured prominently in games and pre-release.

Pokemon is focused on both the anime and games for Smash, it isn't an either or situation and it seems that they take both things into equal consideration.

physical so it shows up on NPD /s

no but seriously physical cause I don't have any more room

The idea of Pokemon as represented in media and real time games like Smash is much different from how the series is realized within its own strict turn-based RPG ruleset. Don't try to reconcile the two.

DD master race so I can play through the night and never have to switch carts.

Physical. I like having things to line up on a shelf. This is one case where's I'd consider double dipping though, and also getting the digital copy to always have on the system. I mean it's Smash.

Download, or I won't be able to bring another game with me while I'm out.

I was gonna download, but I'm reasonably sure I can get the game early on cartridge.

If the game has NO download play, i'll gift the cartridge after download comes out. If it has download play, i might stick to cartridge and just never take it out. All because of 3+ days early smash!
