Will Sony focus on AAA at E3 after their Indie announcements yesterday?

So after yesterday's slew of Indie announcements, I was wondering if that means that Sony won't have an indie focus during their E3 press conference as they did last year. I don't think they will ignore Indies completely, but last year's segment with all of the developers playing/showing their titles up on stage left a powerful impression on people.

With the timing of yesterday's announcement coming just about a month before E3, I would expect that Sony wouldn't double dip on the news and give stage time to all of these games like they did last year.

Which leads me to their alternatives and obviously the big AAA titles they can show. The Order will probably be first and foremost, since they showed it last year, and will be closer to release.

The one thought that a friend brought up to me was "Which press conference will Call of Duty be at?" At first I thought they were crazy, but given the early lead of PS4, and the public impression that Destiny is favoring PS4 over XB1, maybe it's not impossible that this Sledgehammer COD will be shown off during the Sony press conference, and maybe Playstation will be the platform that gets DLC first this generation.

Activision will already be involved in the conference to show off Destiny since it will be close to launch, and I believe the beta is launching in June for pre-order customers, so they will probably share some details about the beta.

So what games do you think Sony will focus on at E3?

Also, first thread.

My thought it they'll try to strike a balance between both, it's unhelpful to focus on one or the other too much.

Also, I really can't picture seeing CoD at the Sony conference over Microsoft's, even though it probably would make more sense.

They'll still be showing "bigger" indie games like The Witness and Rime in terms of indies while the bigger focus with be AAA games.

It worked for them last year in a lot of ways. It boosts their conference in the number of games and variety they can show. And it acts well as changeable filler

There will certainly be an indie focus with Sony at E3 this year although I suspect a much greater focus on AAA games but who knows?

Also there will be plenty of people either watching E3 or hearing about it after that will not have heard anything about Sony's recent indie stuff

You are jumping to conclusions. Sony got great feedback from the press and the audience by giving indies a place in the conference, so they probably will do something similar this year.

I imagine there will be more than a handful of AAA games at E3. They know they have to react to what people have been saying about indie games. But yeah, there will still be an indie presence on stage.

I don't know. They've got a lot of IP and supposedly a lot of their studios working on things so hopefully they show some new stuff. I think uncharted 4 is the only announced game we haven't seen any actual game play. It'd be kinda boring if the just show more of what they showed last year (the order and drive club) plus uncharted.

I thought MS secured first dibs DLC for another few years..think they announced it last year at the Xbone announcement.

As for what Sony will show, they have some key people there who are IN LOVE with the indie movement and have done great things in getting that out there. I think it will still have a decent impact but not as large as ladt year.

Like you stated, they just did an event yesterday, with 12 titles. I'm sure they'll have more but as its the first full year they're gonna want to keep momentum going and will probably focus more on new games for ps4 and vita (I think they'll do a "relaunch" of sorts. Lower price, lower priced memory cards, surprising megaton games for vita)

I agree and I mentioned it in the OP, that it left an impression on people. I guess my thought is that if they were going to repeat that type of presentation, would they have let out all that news yesterday with a list of 12 games coming to PS4? Would it have been better to hold off another 5-6 weeks and show them at E3? Unless they have so many high quality indies coming that they could show an additional 10-12 new games at E3.

I am really curious as to what they have in store for Vita ...

Yeah and no....

Sony is known for having a huge booth presence at s3 so while some of these guy won't get any stage time outside a montage at their presser I fully expect sony to have a specialized booth for them

I think that they'll show a demo of No Man's Sky assuming that they were able to land it. But other than that i'd expect it to be heavily focused on AAA. I remember Adam saying that they were listening to fan feedback about what was expected so that they could meet expectations, and AAA games are obviously what most people want to see.

Has Sony announced a time and date for their E3 conference? I mean with all the money trouble and all I think that's not obvious it will happen.

What we know, without "knowing": Only Ubi and EA and maybe another third party will actually hold a conference of their own. This means that every other third party will want to be on MS or Sony conference to share the spotlight

What we also know but not "know" is that all major third parties are developing games, last year not much was ready to be shown, this time everyone has a teaser trailer at worst.

And even though EA and Ubi are likely holding their own, they will still be everywhere all over Sony/MS conferences.

TLDR: There will be a ton of huge games on both conferences, next gen is really starting this holiday season, and now is the time to start PR.

I think that WAS the something similar. Sony just had a conference devoted entirely to indies.

Still, I think with smaller titles given their own space, it's possible Sony's E3 conference will have bits devoted to mid-tier/"bigger" indie games.

Could be my hoped getting the better of me, but I'm hoping that relaunch is legit..vita is great. Needs more people to see that.

Well the Borderlands 2 bundle comes out well before E3 so thats out of the way.

I imagine they will just reiterate on all the Indies and Localizations that are coming later this year.

Show off Freedom Wars, SSD, Oreshika, a bunch of Indies. Touch on the new collections (God of War, Sly, etc..)

I would REALLY love to see a Megaton surprise title of some sort and a big Memory card price drop.

With Stigs game cancelled and Uncharted turmoil I doubt AAA will have much of a presence, at least in the exclusives.

I expect to see CG trailers for games that are far off though. Games aren't just made out of thin air.

I think this year MS will have a great showing for indies, after the positive feedback Sony got last year

I doubt we'd see any GC trailers from Sony WWS after the KZ2 debacle

of course they reintroduced Shadow of the Beast as a CG trailer in Gamescom as the exception....

I believe we will likely see already announced titles like The Order 1886, Rime, etc...

then we will likely see a lot of 3rd Party trailers....sadly more Ubisoft

Could be way off but has anyone announced any big titles this year? I mean, apart from Mario Kart 8 there's not a sausage.

The multiplat AAA titles like Watch_Dogs and Destiny come to both so I don't get why people single out Sony over MS for not announcing anything/ focusing on AAA.

Why is announcing indie games worse than announcing nothing? I don't understand it myself. Personally, I love me some smaller games, I like the freshness. It's like eating a fuckton of AAA hamburgers and having a nice crunchy indie apple.

Media molecule
Sony bend
Sony Japan
Guerrilla Cambridge
Santa Monica 2nd team
Unfinished swan 2nd sony game
Sports champion team

I'm guessing:

-Uncharted 4 (Gameplay reveal)
-The Order:1886 (Gameplay demo)
-AC: Unity (Gameplay demo)
-Downloadable exclusives showcase
-1st party retail announcement
-1st party retail announcement
-Destiny beta reveal date

Thuway and Shinobi seem to be pretty adamant that this year's E3 for Sony will be big.

Here's hoping their E3 isn't the "Lets talk about indies for 75% of the show and then ride the coattails of MS's misfortune lol"

I expect to hear about the AAA games, not things like "more resogun".

I"m pretty sure that indie show off was meant to get it out of the way so they can go for the more "bigger AAA" games at E3. So yea.

What Sony Studios have unaccounted for Projects?

- Media Molecule should have something

- Guerilla will have the New IP to show right?

- Santa Monica is doing something too..

- Ready At Dawn will show more of the order

- Naughty Dog.... is in Limbo. Ill be surprised to see them there at all.

Aren't there a bunch more?

Funny how that game is rated higher than most "AAA games" that were released at launch on both platforms

Excellent contribution to stealth trollers everywhere. I thought thuway was kidding but I guess he was right. Every. Thread.

Sony's lean on indie last year felt like a compromise maneuver to compensate for the fact they seemed to have less next-gen software than Microsoft. Assuming they aren't in that position again this year, I expect we'll only see one or two indies (both of which being big showstoppers, like Minecraft last year).

Looking at BF server populatioins I guess maybe PS can get BF back but I think COD remains firmly in the MS camp.

I'm sure there are plenty of other indies Sony will showcase as well.

Yeah we've known about those for a while. I probably didn't make myself clear, I was trying to say I don't get the flak Sony in particular is getting for announcing indie games while other (bigger) games are in development. It's all games! Nobody has said anything about the big titles really, obviously they will at E3 and if they don't we know they're coming. I'm just confounded by this manufactured worrying.
