Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I dunno. Does anyone know if it's been confirmed or denied that wave dash will return?

Wavedashing was clearly an unintentional physics exploit and the Brawl air dodge (which appears to be returning in Smash 4) made it impossible.

That's probably all the confirmation you need.

Kirby transformations please.

So I wanted to bring this up

With the Mario Kart 8 info we've gotten the last few days we basically know every single character, track, battle track, and online feature the game has. The only thing we don't know are all the kart pieces and if there are any plans for dlc tracks/characters.

Honestly I think we're going to see the same thing for smash, at e3 we'll probably get a few more characters and release dates and probably before the 3ds version is out we'll probably get most if not all of the roster confirmed.

I think its a strong possibility we're going to know a good 90% + of the characters and stages in the game before it launches. You guys may want to start preparing yourselves mentally in case that turns out to be the case so you don't disappoint yourself when you get the game and find there are very few secrets to find

Nothing new:

But I like how it seems they are going to keep awareness about everything in "Play Nintendo @ E3 2014".

Also nothing new, but I find it interesting:
Watch live as 16 highly skilled Super Smash Bros. players take each other on in the first-ever Nintendo-sponsored Super Smash Bros. tournament. We’ll share more information soon about the invited participants, the announcers, and how fans can view the tournament in person and via webcast.
http://e3.nintendo.com/#2014/tournament

I wonder when the webcast they are talking about. Any guesses on when this webcast would take place? I imagine they would want to share the info before pre-E3 stuff even starts so people can be ready to watch it. I hope they drip-feed the info so they can keep interest and awareness over a longer period of time.
Mario Kart is Mario Kart. Smash is Smash. Different ways of doing stuff.

Wario is the new Yoshi. He was in Brawl's reveal trailer and is still nowhere to be found for the next installment. Why the mystery, Sakurai? Same goes for Metaknight. I really wish Sakurai would get some of the no-brainer veterans out of the way. Just give me Wario, Metaknight, Captain Falcon and Ganondorf and then we're all set for E3.

Yeah, I heard. I already set my expectation low as I can but honestly, I'm pleased with the roster and contents so far, but it could change in the future tho.

I'm excited about their plans for Smash. I'm pretty sure that they would use youtube, upstream and twitch for webcast. I hope that we will find out more about smash tournament soon. I really hope that most of them would pick variable characters so we can learn more about them.

I agreed with you on that statement but we can't be so sure about that since Sakurai have been on weird stance about people uploaded the videos on the Internet, so who know that Sakurai might not like the fact that people posted the secret characters online as well. I'm going to be cautious with Smash 4 Hype tho like I always do.

Yeah, I'm calling it now. This Smash Invitational will have a character reveal.

Pokémon fans, wasn't Mega Kangaskhan revealed at a tournament? That was HYPE. Would be cool to see them do something similar here.

First of all intentional or not it's what adds depth and complexity to the game and should stay. Back Dash Canceling in Tekken was unintentional originally but it is the bases on which the entire game is played. Combos, Karas, and Plinking in Street Fighter, Plink Dashing in Marvel, 2G in Soul Calibur 2, Roll Canceling in CVS2, these were all unintended exploits that go on to define their game. Smash is a gigantic neutral battle, it should be a game with an advance movement mechanic like wave dash. The game is very slow and dull without it. It was one of the huge factors that made Brawl such a bad game. I don't see why logically, if you were trying to build a good, fun, and interesting game, that you would not want it to return.

Why are you having a conversation with yourself?
Why do you expect we would know anything about the game's physics engine based on about 20 minutes of footage in total?

If I were to guess, though, I am pretty damn sure that it's not going to return because it wasn't intended and removed in Brawl.

I don't expect anyone to know if it is in the game, I expect people to know whether or not they answered any questions about it which should be obvious. How do I know there is 20 minutes of footage? Do you see me following Smash Brothers in this thread? Do I seem like a hardcore Nintendo fanboy or just someone stopping by to ask a simple question about a game I have a passing interest in? Check your ego kid.

Sakurai disagrees and feels that it adds unnecessary complexity and skill cap. I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

It's not returning in the form it was in Melee in any case.

No you're totally right. It happened with Brawl and even more recently with Pokemon XY. We might be deeper than we think already

Edit: after the last battle a newcomer appears

I don't expect anyone to know if it is in the game, I expect people to know whether or not they answered any questions about it which should be obvious.

There has been absolutely no Q&A or direct interaction between Sakurai or any of the other developers or Nintendo in general with fans. Besides that, I don't think that it would even be brought up in any Q&A because there's other things that many more people are interested in beyond an unintended mechanic that is based on the physics engine of a game that is almost 15 years old.

How do I know there is 20 minutes of footage?

I dunno, I thought that maybe if you were interested in a game you'd watch the trailers or at least the presentation that was dedicated to it and showcased mechanics among other things. But maybe I'm just crazy to expect that, I mean, who would watch videos of a game they are interested in, even just slightly? Only fanboys, surely.

Do you see me following Smash Brothers in this thread?

I didn't know trailers were only made for GAF. Learn something new every day.

Do I seem like a hardcore Nintendo fanboyor just someone stopping by to ask a simple question about a game I have a passing interest in?

I dunno, I don't know you, I've never seen you on the entirety of GAF. Though I guess anyone interested in a Nintendo game must be a fanboy.

Check your ego kid.

Thanks for assuming my age, old man. Why are you even interested in this anyway? You're not a Nintendo fanboy, and you obviously show no actual interest in the game, otherwise you would've invested at least a minute to check YouTube and watch the reveal gameplay trailer from last year's E3. But with a short lifespan as you have remaining, I guess even that is expecting too much - you sure Smash Bros. is for your faint, old heart?

Perhaps you should check your ego first before pretentiously waltzing into a thread, asking a question that is impossible to answer and get pissy when people are asking you if you've even checked the available information we have.

Smash 64 does not have a wave dash and that game is more exciting to play (IMO), especially in teams (fact), than Melee.

Thanks for completely proving my point, kid.

I'd be fine with it either way. If wavedashing returns, cool. If not...*shrugs*. It was never a "mechanic" that had any impact on me.
