One bad game after a long string of awesome Ratchet and Clank and Resistance games? That's it folks, write off the whole studio.

Not just one. Resistance 2 (Some would even argue the other entries); all the R&C games after A Crack in Time; Fuse.
This studio has produced some great games, but of late, they've produced mediocre games which are seriously lacking in polish.
SOD looks good, but don't over hype it.

Yeah. I bought a PS3 for Resistance and Ratch and Clank. I probably would have waited a while had it not been for those Insomniac games (big Spyro fan).

This is NeoGAF. It's OK to hype stuff here. I'd say it encouraged and makes the anticipation a lot of fun.
 
The E3 trailer left me cold, but the gameplay reveal has the exact opposite effect.

100% this. I wasn't a fan of insomniac's recent releases and I the reveal trailer honestly made me roll my eyes a bit, but this now looks right up my alley stylistically and just pure-joy-fun-gameplay wise.
 
I'm glad people are coming into the thread and letting us know they won't be buying an Xbox One.

As someone who owns an Xbox One I'm not too impressed yet. Looking at what's going in the gameplay it looks like the guy is just running around mindlessly spamming gunfire into enemies.

"Next-gen respawns" looks pretty cheesy as well and what exactly makes them "next-gen"?

I think the "next-gen" was meant to be taken as a joke. Instead of just appearing out of thin air they are giving a little animation.
 
The trailer is even more impressive upon repeated viewings. Gameplay just looks so damn good. Love the fluidity during the various transitions.

Cannot wait to finally get my sweaty mitts on this. I know it's unlikely, but I'd love a demo during E3...

Would be amazing if it was part of a resurrected Bringing it Home.

Well Resistance 2 was in 2008 so not really what you'd call a recent game and they'd be wrong to argue the other entries, 1 and 3 are awesome. Into the Nexus was great as well. Fuse was clearly a quick buck for EA. I do what I want, I hype what I want.

I don't know . Resistance 2 was a step back from the first, but I'd hardly call it "bad". Rushed? Not as creative? Sure. But not bad.
 
Graphics sure are nice but the gameplay looks even duller than Infamous's. I can see why people enjoy these kinds of games but the fun lasts about 5 minutes for me.
 
Looks pretty cool, I'll be happy to actually have something to play on my xbone. Probably will have some stiff competition in the fall though.
 
I don't have an Xbox One. I think this game looks really damn fun and interesting. I would consider buying an Xbox One for this game and the next Halo (if it's good). Basically, MS did good by securing this as an exclusive title. I don't give a crap about THE ALMIGHTY HYPE. This game just looks fun.

Quick question while you're here, are there any plans to speed up traversal as you get closer to going gold?

They said that it's like that so that a balance could be reached with shooting things and moving about the place at the same time. IMO it'd be cool if we could accelerate/decelerate at will so we get the best of both worlds.
 
That... actually makes me interested in getting an Xbox One. Unless it turns out to also be coming for PC (hi Below!), in which case never mind. But yeah. Not sure I'll actually buy the console for the game's release but I am intrigued.

we are always testing it to see what works right.

Keep in mind, it plays faster than it looks on video. And in the middle of combat, while figuring out what traversal to do next, where the enemies are and how they are impeding you, while trying to kill them (and decide which weapons to use or switch weapons) and keep your style meter going, means there is a lot to keep you busy.

we've heard that feedback from you guys though, and we'll keep testing with it in mind for sure. so I guess the answer is, we'll see.

Armchair game designing here but some kind of switch would be perfect where you can simply choose your desired speed. :o

That sounds perfect and it's great to hear it plays faster than it looks. I guess it's not surprising the sense of speed is harder to convey when it's a third person action title compared to if it was first person.

That was my first impression as well.
Game looks and feels fun as hell and it's the first X1 game that actually stirred my interest.
If this one actually performs good and still is as fun as it looks right now and if MS secures more fun exclusives i see myself buying an X1 maybe near new year.

]The art style is nice, but the movement doesn't look very fluid to me.[/B] The way the animation and fluidity of motion look reminds me of Ratchet & Clank, which makes sense, but I don't feel like it looks particularly nice in the context of a Jet Set Radio-esque structure.

This. The game looks awesome, but gameplay better match it's looks. I cringe when my protagonist controls like an action figure. Fluidity is a must in something as wacky as this.

Looks like it plays fine to me... Grinding seems ok... The only thing that really looks unacceptably stiff to me is the wall running.
