So ridiculous.

Anyway, what would that mean for all of the unsold Kinect included boxes out there? Price cut on them? MS buys them back and strips out the Kinects for the new SKU? How does this actually work?

Means nothing. They'll have two price points.

Kinect-less SKU at the same price ;)

But seriously, wonder whether we'll get insight into now rather than e3. Will their show be so full that this bomb couldn't wait?

Edit: sorry for not thoroughly reading the thread, price joke was old.

$350. It's coming

Hahahahahahaha.

It has a lot of value coupled with the Xbox One OS, but I have seen no game implementations of Kinect that appeal to me.

I'm glad they're ditching it as a focal point, but that doesn't mean I'm not glad I've got one.

I was gonna buy a PS4 this week, but with this announcement Microsoft persuaded me to wait for E3. Thanks Microsoft!

waiting for Sony's response

Now I don't intend to buy one (already have a PS4 and perfectly happy with it) but if this is true this is becoming a very very interzsting generation of consoles indeed.

Well that's a surprise, if only it was cloudless too! I joke!

It would need to be less than £300 and they'd need to have some games that I'm interested in at E3 for me to bite. Games that I won't be able to get on the PS4 too as there's no real reason to buy a console if it's only to play what will likely be a weaker version of games I can get on my PS4.

This is a decent move though.

Would/Will removing Kinect and consequently cutting the price by $100 and removing the paywall for apps like Netflix, etc make the sales numbers for PS4 and XB1 a lot closer?
"a lot" closer? Probably not. The performance gap is still there and the lead/positioning has already been established. However it WILL sell more systems, unquestionably. My guess is the "getting rid of Kinect" is really just a disguised price drop needed to keep sales in line with what they want/need.

Even after all the promises and the fact that Kinect is integral to the experience.

Dammit MS. Fucked us Kinect users >:l

So a device that was developed for years to be an always-online machine that utilizes the Kinect as a central feature is being half-assedly overhauled and changed within the first year to resemble something that consumers would actually want to buy.

They are flailing, trying desperately to grab on to the coattails of the PS4. This doesnt exactly give me the warm and fuzzy feeling about Microsofts plans for the future of Xbox since they will basically just throw away any business model at the drop of a hat.

If this is true, it is a shame that they didn't even try to fully support it for even a full year before abandoning Kinect. All the features and integration behind it is what would and will drive me to pick up an Xbox One as a living room gaming device over a PS4.

I'll still be purchasing one with a Kinect. Hope the white Sunset Overdrive bundle that's rumored will still be packaged with one.

Should be. They charge abput 150 for replacement Kinects.

Thats not how capitalism works. They want to sell these at a profit. Selling at $349 won't help them achieve that.

If they have price parity with the PS4 and it still sells poorly then they will need to drop the price even further

This announcement... shortly after that beautiful trailer for Sunset Overdrive... Man, I promised myself to not get all three consoles again. How am I supposed to keep that promise?
