Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Bowser: Dry Bowser. Can still be huge and powerful, but I'd rather it be one of his forms from his games, and not Giga Bowser, which was made up for smash.
I keep hoping it'll be changed to him in the Koopa Clown Car, raining destruction from above with bombs, mechakoopas, and such. Would also be fine with something that incorporates the Koopalings.

Zamus's Final Smash will be to play the entirety of Metroid Other M Theater Mode. Whoever doesn't get up in leave before it's over automatically wins.

You make it sound like a bad thing

I'd honestly prefer more unique, character-releated FSs instead of just giving everyone the exact same things, even if said unique FSs turn out to be totally stupid (looking at you, DK Bongos).

Mario: Tanuki Mario (with statue drop attack), Mega Mushroom, Something!

The problem with Mario is that most of his game-specific things have become regular items in Smash. We have the Super Leaf, and since recent Mario games tend to collapse the distinction between Raccoon and Tanooki Mario, I doubt we'd see an FS like that. The Mushroom and Star are already items, too. I think he got his Brawl FS from a sense of "what else?" The obvious choices had already been taken. Maybe he could get the Cape from Super Mario World and fly around like that? Or the Hammer Suit
and cut the Hammer Bros AT because what a waste of time that was.

As for some other vets:

Wario Man was fine. I can't think of anything more appropriate offhand.
Ice Climbers and Jigglypuff need buffs. Their FSs were generally useless.
Captain Falcon's was probably the funniest - it's a hit and run, for heaven's sake - so I hope it stays.
Lucas (if he's still on the roster) needs something different from Ness. Same for Falco, Wolf, and Toon Link. Clone FSs are sad.

The star would be such a perfect fit if it weren't already and item. Run around the stage (slightly faster) and kill enemies just by running into them.

Ooh, that's a good one, too! Good call

Yeah, I'm having a really hard time coming up with a unique final smash for him. Maybe he opens up the key portal from SMW and everyone gets sucked in.

Jiggly will probably get some fairy move. I think her sing should be a taunt (that still puts people to sleep if they're nearby!) and given a new Up B.

Ice climbers don't have a lot to go on, other than bringing some of their enemies in to do stuff.

Ness never even got PK startstorm in earthbound! I'd like him to have something else, personally. Never played mother 3, so I can't comment on lucas.

Captain falcon was perfect. I think Wario Man was great, too.

Jigglypuff should get Disarming Voice as her down special -- it's the only Fairy attack she can learn by leveling up. It would function similarly to Rest, but she wouldn't be left vulnerable at the end of the animation. Rest could then be turned into a taunt (falling asleep and quickly waking up).

Wario could have his Ground Bash move he had in Wario Land Shake It!! It could damage anyone on the ground for 50-75% and stun them for a few seconds for a follow up attack if he's close enough before the stun wears off

That would be cool, and I'd love to see a Shake It tie-in, as that game (it seems to me) is criminally under-appreciated. But if it only hurts people on the ground, then it would be way too easy to avoid. Flying characters would be almost impossible to hit.

Mario should get a Mega Mushroom and the cape, fly of screen and dive-bomb Super Mario World style with the force of God himself. It would basically be Olimar's but cooler.

Olimar should blow his whistle and watch a hundred Pikmin swarm the screen, beating up everyone and carrying them into oblivion.

Donkey Kong should do what Skull Kid with Majora's Mask couldn't. Dk should should punch the moon down to the stage and destroy all! That or a super Rambi rampage.

Dixie should get Squitter and web everyone up. I guess.

I think that, with the exception of olimar (because his FS is now an item), everyone that hasn't had their final smash revealed is likely keeping the old one.

I could be wrong, though. I hope I'm wrong. I really want everyone to have a final smash that is something that directly comes from their games.

Link: Skyward Strike
Toon Link: Hurricane Spin
Zelda: Light Arrow was perfect.
Sheik: Light Arrow or something else
Mario: Tanuki Mario (with statue drop attack), Mega Mushroom, Something!
Peach: The emotion powers from super princess peach
Olimar: Rock pikmin (turns all pikmin into rock pikmin, which behave like bonsley, but throw farther)
Yoshi: Super dragon is fine, since it's from super mario world, but I'd like the mega egg
ZSS: Crystal flash is fine, but it's weird that it wouldn't turn her back into samus. Maybe call in her ship for an air strike?
Bowser: Dry Bowser. Can still be huge and powerful, but I'd rather it be one of his forms from his games, and not Giga Bowser, which was made up for smash.
Marth: Critical hit is fine!
Fox: Landmaster is fine! As long as falco/wolf don't get one, too!
DK: Bongos were fine, they just need to be more effective. Rambi would be cool, though.
Diddy: His old final smash was a bit uninspired, but I have no better ideas for him.
Pikachu: Volt tackle was perfect
Sonic: Super sonic was absolutely perfect, no need to change.

- Mario's is fine for me.
- Sheik should have a different one than Zelda.
- When they announced Landmaster for Fox in SSBB, I was almost sure they'd give the Arwing to Falco (you know, land vehicle for a land animal, etc.).
- DK should climb on top of the stage and throw some barrels down. For extra fun, he could kidnap whoever he's closest to, too.
- Olimar can keep his one from Brawl; it has nothing to do with how the Hocotate ship item works. If you mean it's technically the same, well, so is Mario's and the Fire Flower, Samus' up B and the Screw Attack (those are even mechanically the same too), and so on and so forth.

I hope DK gets a new FS, bongoes aren't really relevant and the FS kinda sucked, especially on big stages.

Toon LInk could summon Cyclos to make a big tornado.

DK used the bongos in six games (DK64, Jungle Beat, Barrel Blast, and the Donkey Konga series), so it's still a significant part of his character's history. The team can make it better without cutting it entirely.

I'm sure Super Sonic is a shoe in but I hope they change a lot about it. That thing was absurdly good.
Depends on whether or not Sonic himself receives any buffs. If he doesn't, then I'd oppose nerfing Super simply because he otherwise is in dire need of killing moves, something Super kind of provides.

A significant part but I wouldn't call it iconic or character defining. I could see them giving him another since the bongo controllers and games designed with that in mind probably ain't making a comeback.

Sonic has received a few buffs, his down air in particular has been given a meteor smash (or something similar) effect. His homing attack has greater range and his Spin Dash looks less predictable than before.

Edit: also his up and back air both look quicker when pulled off.

I never said, or had the idea that characters get chosen because they're retro.. It's the fact that he loves bringing back characters from old, back to life. Sure it didn't start with Smash 64, but that doesn't matter. That was the first game.

Started off with Melee having two, Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch. Then Brawl came in having another two just as Melee. Pit and R.O.B.

I would assume another two would join for this new one. Little Mac has had a recent game for the Wii, and Mega Man is a third-party. So I don't include them. This is why I expect to have some retro characters included. It's all hopes.

Also, where was this Pit being highly requested?

I think some people are taking Sakurai's quote from this interview too literally. Sakurai might consider Mega Man and Little Mac "old characters" -- Mega Man's implementation is definitely retro, and outside of his appearance, Little Mac pulls more from the classic games than the recent one (the Power Meter, for example). Sakurai might not even be talking about newcomers. It's way too vague a statement to mean anything concrete. There isn't a hard rule in place that absolutely necessitates the addition of retro characters in Smash Bros. -- the first game didn't have any, and it's not like there's an infinite amount of characters to pick from.
Well, let's look at the quote itself:
Adam Riley: You have mentioned how you like to breathe new life into forgotten franchises. Now that Kid Icarus has been completed, what other old classic would you like to look at? Ice Climbers, Star Tropics, MoleMania…or something non-Nintendo?

Sakurai-san: I am planning on doing my best to bring old characters back in Smash Bros. From that perspective, I am probably in the most fortunate position in the world.
Adam Riley asked what franchise Sakurai would like to consider next. He then goes on to mention series like Ice Climbers, Star Tropics, and MoleMania. Sakurai then responded by saying that he wants to bring back old characters in Smash Bros. Not just ones that have lasted a long time like Mega Man (let's face it, he's not getting a revival anytime soon) and Little Mac (already revived), but characters that have been dormant for many years like Mach Rider, Lip, etc. Not only does the quote imply he wants to add old characters, it implies he wants to bring back old characters as well. Considering that Sakurai is responding to a question about retro franchises, it means he was looking at adding retro characters for this game. Nothing is guarantee, but I do see a retro rep as very likely. If we do see one, my bet is on Mach Rider.

I guess him having access to Rambi for half a minute could work, though the bongos would work a lot better if they actually let you run around with them since they're useless on scrolling stages.

Well with it being a "everybody" Final Smash that would be the balancing factor for it. After all DK's Bongos aren't effective at all if you are too far from him, so is Luigi's and so forth for a few other characters. Also perhaps once Wario activates the Final Smash, he'll do so in a manner where unless you are already mid-air its too quick to react to OR everyone on the screen freezes no matter what their doing so there won't be a legitimate way to anticipate it.

Did you lose some online battles against Mega users recently or is there another reason you're so salty?

No I just think mega Pokémon are stupid and pointless gimmick that should have been traditional evolution for the Pokémon. As it stand I don't view mega Pokémon as new Pokémon nor do I acknowledge their existent.

It also doesn't help that the game forces you to use them and see them 3 times in games.

The sooner they go away the better.

Mega Pokemon are never going away and you're gonna need to learn to accept that, don't be surprised when Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire add more megas and possibly a patch for X/Y comes out to add them to that game.

Had a crazy Smash-related dream last night. Out of nowhere, Leonardo (of the TMNT) was revealed as a newcomer! No trailer or anything, just a regular pic of the day. As expected, no one saw it coming, but rather than being excited, a lot of people were upset that the most boring turtle made it in over a badass like Raphael (yeah I went there). Also, his color on the site was bright yellow rather than, you know, blue. Weird!

That's unfortunate for you that you don't "acknowledge their existence," because I'd get my bottom dollar Mega Evolutions are here to stay.

Half the Pokemon with Megas can't get another evolution traditionally.

That's surprising. I thought with you it'd be Raphael :P

I tried my hand making a roster that's restricted to 48 characters (just in case that rumored number and 4 cuts/that rumored new characters list rings true). Geez was that hard. Rhythm Girl is a placeholder for Chorus Men. Kept going back and forth between cutting Squirtle/Ivysaur/Ike and either Lucas/Snake. Mewtwo might make it in, but I went with Dixie Kong because it'd be a shame for her not to make it along with Ridley. Curse you, 48 slots! And of course a Lucina alt gotta be there!

Objectively, I think Lucas is more likely to get the ax before Ike, though I don't want either one of them to be cut. I enjoy using both characters.

Ike is relevant to the Wii era, and he's most likely going to be updated to reflect Path of Radiance. He's starred in two international Fire Emblem games and has a completely unique move set. Lucas, on the other hand, appeared in one Japan-only game eight years ago, and his move set is derivative of Ness'. Also, given the size and public awareness of the respective series, three Fire Emblem characters and one Mother character makes far more sense in 2014 than two characters each.

I agree he definitely needs buffs(and so far seems to already have a few which is a nice sign), but I think there is a fundamental flaw when a character has to rely so heavily on a single aspect like that. Especially when even with items on, if a dragoon part spawned in the sonic player would know a smash ball isn't coming, lol.

And you never know, Ike may be in SMT X FE.

Lucas 4eva.

I just realized that the Boss Galaga (which was inconspicuously revealed in last month's press kit) is one of Pac-Man's special items in Mario Kart Arcade GP. Granted, Pac-Man's pretty obvious at this point, but this strengthens the connection somewhat.

Mewtwo's final smash is summoning a Smash Bros. Brawl disc and crying.

I prefer him wiping Sonic from the roster and adding himself in again as his final smash. Sonic will then be unplayable permanently on the console the move occurs on. Once move has been used once he uses your version.

Ike's a badass, though, and he's pretty popular with IS. No idea if he's popular with Sakurai, but Sakurai's a pretty big FE fan, so we'll see what he decides to do.

On the topic of Ike; I believe it to be highly unlikely that Sakurai would cut him based on his relevance, alledged standing with I.S., N.A mascot status & completely unique Moveset, aside from down B. I hope Sakurai does the right thing here.
