Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

Well weren't a recent discovery as soon as you began playing Pokémon X+Y, so Game Freak could include them by saying that they were just discovered in ORAS and are beginning to test them.

Well they were still a big mystery in XY even though they had been discovered before the game started. Weren't some people researching megas?

And conveniently we have a globe-trotting, stone hunting rich kid, who could have conceivably visited Kalos and acquired a keystone and mega ring for the player.

Or it could just be haphazardly slapped into the game for the sake of being there, much like the plot in X and Y.

That is either amazingly intentional or super convenient. I like that idea though. He could be a surprise mega user.

Been saying this for a while. I also wouldn't be surprised if they introduced MegaMetagross for him

I'd be more hyped if it was a remake of Pokemon Red and Blue. When I say that, I don't mean Fire Red and Leaf Green. Kanto region, one through one hundred and fifty.

Don't worry, they're going to gut it just like the Game Corner.

That silly European restriction on fictional gambling gave us Voltorb Flip, the greatest minigame in the history of Pokémon.

In fact if they just imported the Safari Zone and Voltorb Flip wholesale from HG/SS I'd be happy as can be.

I stopped playing Y after I found out I couldn't change my hair color to rose.
I'm not avatar quoting you suppa

Darn it.

I really hope Steven is the final boss again, but with the ability to rebattle him. I think you could only battle him once at the end of Emerald.

The fact that they didn't bother at all in B/W and X/Y makes me wary, though it would be weird if they didn't include anything.

The only game you should be worried about not having a Safari Zone is X2/Y2 because they are by and large the same people responsible for this one.

However just look at the previous remakes, FR/LG and HG/SS cut almost nothing and HG/SS added a Safari Zone when there wasn't one in the original games. The only thing I'm worried about is it being shitty like Hoenn's one.

Maybe Mega Stones/Evolution will be locked until after the E4? Not sure what the chronological order of the Pokemon games are but after you beat Champion Steven, he could tell you about a recent discovery made in a different region (Kalos). When you go and rematch the E4/Gym Leaders, they'll all have pokemon that Mega Evolve. Thus, the game gets Mega Evolutions and also gets a good remake.

I don't understand this. Whats to be gained by only allowing gen 1 pokemon? You are aware of pokemon randomizer right? You can play every mainline pokemon game (sans X/Y) on an emulator with ONLY gen 1 pokemon if you desire.

I'd wager most people wouldn't want your proposal. Lot of great pokes between 152-718.

It also already exists, FRLG wouldn't let you use anything beyond Gen 1 until the postgame.

Platinum for me, as a whole, is the greatest Pokémon game created. There's this great feeling of sentimentality and atmosphere that's reflected by the region and its music.

I feel like with Unova and Kalos they took a step backwards by not having any sense of purpose or personality exclusive to that game. Felt more like a collection of areas and themes instead of a whole. Feel like Kanto & Johto continent, Hoenn, and Sinnoh did that well. For the last two regions, I don't remember anything great about them.

There is a lot more to Pokémon games that battle speed, to me at least. It's why I can withstand some JRPGs while most people obviously can't I guess. It's about the game as a whole for me.

I freaking love Gen IV for that reason. Battle speed was off, sure, and some of evolutions were questionable, but Sinnoh is great. I really loved Mt Coronet, it's annoying to trek through but I loved how the whole single player game revolved around that mountain, how you had to pass through it numerous times and then, at the end, finally climb up to the top. I really liked the whole design with the 3 lakes. Simple stuff, but Sinnoh really felt inspired, unlike Unova which is imo the weakest region.

Ho-oh and Lugia were obtainable in gen 3 without events, but you had to get them from the 2 gamecube games (Colosseum had Ho-oh, XD had lugia)

XD was released after FR/LG/E, so my point stands :) And getting Ho-oh from Colosseum was an arduous task, getting through entire battle tower with combat more sluggish than DP was snooze-inducing at best, I eventually gave up.

This is the one generation where I can't pick a favourite. I love all 3 of the legendaries; if only they had remade Emerald instead.

Good time for me to get into the franchise. I remember playing Pokemon Red, Yellow, and Gold over 12 years ago or so. 2 weeks ago I picked up Pokemon X, and I remember why I loved the Pokemon franchise so much as a kid. I will be done with the game soon, and I look forward to getting back into Pokemon when these remakes come out later this year!

I wouldn't. While I like the Kanto region and the Kanto Gym Leaders, most of the 001 to 151 Pokémon look terrible to me. I would hate to be restricted to use only them in a game again.

If HGSS is something to go by, these would probably base their structure on the third version.

Gen III and Gen VI are the only generations I've never played, so I'm looking forward to this remake. I need help though, is it worth buying the 3DS, or will the 2DS suffice? I don't carry my portables around with me, so the size of the 2DS doesn't bother me, but I don't mind getting the 3DS either.

3DS XL is the best IMO due to the bigger screen and slightly better battery life than the original 3DS and 2DS. It's also more expensive, but I think it's worth it.

In a letter on the PGL, Shigeki Morimoto says that he believes that Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire will change the Gen VI battle environment.

Wonder what that means...exciting times ahead

Also 3DS quite often goes on sale for like $150. We paid $250+ for our launch systems lol. imagine if Nintendo released the Wii U at $250 it might have done much better.

Pokemon RS were so amazing back then to me with their colorful atmosphere and detail :)

Buy an XL. Infinitely better than the original 3DS. I think the 2DS is on sale for $99 at Target if you want to save money though.

I'm thinking of "upgrading" to the 3DSXL. The increased size is a real turnoff, but I'm willing to take the hit for a better battery life.

If price is a factor, then 2DS. If not, try to go for an XL.
