Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

To be fair, he didn't exactly say it the way you quoted. He said all those things, more or less, but not exactly that way. I'm watching football so I can't give the exact quotes but yeah it was pretty dumb.

I am editing this for down the road, since Gies and others have dismissed it with ad hominems. I guess quoting what he said makes me angry. Anyway, I provided as much context as I could and wish to point out that it actually obfuscates the point he was trying to make. He is saying Sony has good messaging and no games. Since I am focusing on the no games aspect, it doesn't add anything of value to insert the messaging stuff. The only reason that would be of value is if you want to attack the strawman that nothing good was said of Sony on the podcast or something similar. I never said that. Regardless, all the context is now there.

The setup to the following is that Microsoft has a messaging problem and Sony doesn't, whereas Sony has no games and Microsoft does not have that problem:

Gies: "Sony has a message that people wanna get behind and fucking no games. And yes, all the indies in the world are releasing on that system, but it's starting to look like Steam in that there is a bunch of fucking junk being announced for PS4 everyday." [He talks about a game that he thinks looks like junk on the PS4]

Gallegos: "I don't see junk everyday"

Gies: "I get the press releases, still. There is garbage announced for that system everyday."[He then says the topic of small teams releasing on every platform is another conversation altogether, thus why I omitted it. It isn't germane to his point that these releases do not solve Sony's no games problem].

"Anyway, Sony doesn't have a first party lineup announced, and I don't think that they've got much in the pipeline for this year or early next year, but they've got a message people like. Whereas Microsoft is lining up a shitload of software and is still really working on messaging and sentiment."

Gallegos: "What software is Microsoft lining up that's announced?"

Gies: "Ah, well, there's stuff that's not announced yet. There's still Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, ah, this Fable game. [Some uncertainty about the Swery game's release from Sessler]. So there's that, and there's a bunch of other stuff that they are rumored to be working on this year and next year."

Gallegos: "Right so . . . Microsoft doesn't have anything more at this moment."

Gies: "No, because we just talked about 3 or 4 games, and meanwhile Sony's got the Order." [He then says that the Forza might come out this year, which I left out. Sessler then brings up Driveclub]. "So that's 4 or 5 exclusives for Microsoft to 2 for Sony."

That guy clearly doesn't give a fuck about Indies.

Pft. Neither do I. Still, Sony has more than indies. (For one thing, as long as multiplats run better on the PS4 they have those, lol.) At least, they will by the time E3 and the latter half of 2014 comes around.

some in the media must be pissed xbox is losing.

I get this kind of reaction from fans and maybe some entry level games press people but I dont get how someone who is a industry vet, in their 30's can still think that way.

The weird "Microsoft can do no wrong, shoot that DRM love goo all over my face" crowd that popped up last year is just weird to me and its been interesting see them solider on post E3 13.
I dont mind a difference in what games you like but its weird to see grown ass men be so fan boy-ish over a company.

Was Gies and Sessler like that during the PS360 days? Is it a weird pro American thing? I dont get it.

Some people just don't like change.

"Sony has... fucking no games...there is a bunch of fucking junk being announced for PS4 everyday...There is garbage announced for that system everyday."

There, that's a 100% accurate transcription of it.

That guy is an idiot, I wouldn't take anything he says as any sort of indication about what will be shown at E3

I'll never understand why people do this :(

It's okay to have a preference, but let's not ignore the existence of games just because you don't like the genre or concept. I'm not even talking about indie games, I'm talking about retail games. Why even mention rumors on one side while ignoring the Project Beast leak, 4 recent trademarks, and the known information that every 1st/2nd party developer are working on PS4 games?

Aren't journalists suppose to be more informed?

I don't agree.

If you formatted the first one as this:
"Sony has . . . fucking no games . . . there is a bunch of fucking junk being announced for PS4 everyday . . . There is garbage announced for that system everyday."
or:
"Sony has [...] fucking no games [...] there is a bunch of fucking junk being announced for PS4 everyday [...] There is garbage announced for that system everyday."
then it would be clear that you're actually omitting parts, like is proper style. See here.

Maybe it's being pedantic, but I think it's reads quite different if you know that sentences in between and context has been omitted.

I listened to all of that omitted context, and I don't think anything omitted is pertinent. I also think it's clear from what I wrote that there are omissions. You seem like the type that will say all context is pertinent, however, in which case, yes, you are being pedantic.

Sorry for the derail. I am kind of new to the E3 soothsaying, and I am a little worried by members of the media (consider the source, I know) indicating that Sony will underwhelm at E3. I want both companies to have a stellar E3, and I feel confident that Microsoft will based on the recent announcements and posturing. I am just not so sure with Sony.

Gunning for a VITA price drop, along with a decent forecast of quality games (Wheres Sonic, Dissidia, etc) The Vita needs an install base. That seems to be growing in Japan, but not really in the U.S/Europe.

From everything I've read from the insiders, Sony is going to blow people away at e3. I guess it all depends on what you are wanting out of the show. I'd like to see 1 or 2 big AAA new ips from Sony first party studios and I'd also like to see Sony invest in financing some 3rd party exclusives, like Microsoft did with Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, or Dead Rising 3. I'd also like to see some old ips brought back, such as Parappa. That along with a trailer for the next Uncharted would make me very happy.

You guys think people would quit saying PS4 has no games if Sony announced/showed Uncharted 4, Project Beast, TLG, GG's New IP, and Media Molecule's new IP at their conference?

Keeping low expectation is a good thing.
They don't need to hype their conference too much too early its not movie or tv show, there is no rating or box office.
Sony not going to stop making games, they have 14 studios need to feed.

Speaking of PaRappa, whatever happened to the rumor that a new one was being made? It happened earlier this year and I remember one of the insiders confirming it, but nothing else has been said.

Uncharted is great, but it will be a while until release, I'm sure. However, that plus Project Beast and TLG - now that would be enough for me, personally. It would also be nice if The Order showed a lot better than what I've seen of it. I am interested in that game, but I haven't been impressed with what was shown.

You guys think people would quit saying PS4 has no games if Sony announced/showed Uncharted 4, Project Beast, TLG, GG's New IP, and Media Molecule's new IP at their conference?

No, because a lot of people are genuinely uninterested in those games.
I'm not saying that's a reasonable excuse, but it is the case. Even if 4 of those are new IPs, two of them will play similar to past ones, and people aren't interested in 2 of those developers.
I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm not saying it's good logic, but it is definitely the case. There's a large portion of people who just do not care about most of Sony's offerings.

Goalpost shift commencing
Ps4 has no good games/games I want to play

Is it shifting the goalposts if I've been thinking that way since Day One? I've just eased up on bitching about Sony as the schedule's made itself clear that the Fall is what I want. Plus Second Son is the only game I've wanted to play for the PS4 so far, so I can't get mad at Sony when no one else is bringing it either.

This. But it doesn't really have anything to do with logic. It's just taste. It's hard for me to begrudge someone for not liking Sony's offerings when I don't care at all for Gears, Halo, or Fable. And I don't have some bias against Microsoft. I was 360 only until last year and loved exclusives like Alan Wake, Iron Brigade, and Bastion. I just genuinely don't enjoy Microsoft's biggest franchises.

I also don't like a lot of Sony stuff (David Cage's games, LBP), but yeah, I could see a lot of people being the opposite of me without it being some 'lol bias' thing.

Sessler and Gies why am i not surprise , don't think anyone should take what they say seriously.
Any body that thinks MS going walk over Sony this E3 kidding there self .
In terms of games they did last year tbf. I hope sony is holding its cards close to its chest because the line up is a bit thin.

It makes no sense for Sony to finance 3rd party games , they will get companies to make games but they will own the IP like The Order and what ever QD working on next .

Not IMO last year they show whole bunch of games that they will show back this year again .
Of course they going to show some new ones but the same will happen with Sony .
Last year neither one impress me game wise .

Hopefully they won't have a 30 minute Morpheus demonstation. It'll be better if they do a video of a more hands on demonstation during the event.

What would have most sense is a video with devs saying how awesome it is like they did with the console, mixed with quick snippets of games that will utilize it.
A demo would only bore the audience.

So we're all expecting Crash PS4 right?

I posted this on another thread

Sony PlayStation Ireland facebook page posted this a few days ago

"Best street sign ever."

It makes no sense for Sony to finance 3rd party games.

Sure it does, it's just more reasons to buy their console versus the competition's. It builds up the brand if they are getting big 3rd party exclusives. Just look at the launch of the X1. Alot of people bought that console for Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and Titanfall. All 3rd party party exclusives. Look at Sunset Overdrive, another game people are buying Xbox Ones for and it's a 3rd party exclusive. Hopefully with the success of the PS4, Sony can invest some money in 3rd party exclusives again. That was one of their strong points during the PS1/PS2 era.

Stop taking him seriously. Stop giving him hits. This thread alone must have increased the listen numbers for the podcast where he was featured by a good 100 or 200, which makes it more likely that he will return in the future.

This is the guy that left these very message boards because he didn't want to pay $10 on a bet. He's the guy that directly messaged Albert Penello due to the PS4 review event that caused Adam Sessler to have his twitter freakout to explain what was going on, even though he was not supposed to say -- and later proceeded to delete the evidence.

He has bad ethics, an abrasive personality, and adds nothing to the industry other than poison. And if we keep bringing him up, he will never disappear.

Edit: Ugh, I typed all this up over a long period of time and ended up missing Kagari's post.

I apologize.

They are not all third party exclusives. It's dumb to call them that. Because if you call Sunset Overdrive a third party exclusive, then you have to call like 10 announced PS4 games third party exclusives.
And if you do that, what are you even complaining about?

They already doing with stuff like the The Order and what ever else QD making , the difference is unlike MS none of there IPs can move from PS system.
Titanfall 2 going come on PS4 , Sony is not going pay anybody for there IP any more it make no sense.
Why fund something for it to go multiplatform when you can do it your self and keep the IP .
Truth is the only IP that Sony or MS can buy from 3rd parties are small one like DR3 .

You guys think people would quit saying PS4 has no games if Sony announced/showed Uncharted 4, Project Beast, TLG, GG's New IP, and Media Molecule's new IP at their conference?

Nope people will keep saying it. They'll say "Just another Uncharted game why can't Sony make a new IP' or "TLG? That game has been in dev hell for years. It'll be shit!"

I've seen this too much. Sony will never get the benefit of the doubt but they'll continue to wow and impress. By the end of this gen hopefully we'll see the end of this sentiment against Sony.

I don't get the Sony hasn't announced anything analogy that some people online are spweing

There is already some good stuff to look forward to for 2014/2015

The Order

DC

Rime

Shadow of the Beast

Uncharted

etc...

and Sony's WWS aren't just siting on their arses doing nothing so where is the "oh Sony isn't going to announce any new games" mindset coming from?

People I know who own the console are already pleased with what they have and are looking forward for the future

Spouting nonsense like people only play exclusives and indies are garbage/Sony is announcing trash indie games is a silly notion to have

My expectation:

- PS4 drop price to 299$

- 5 New exclusives

- Uncharted 4 , The Order 1886 , The Last Guardian
Why would the ps4 have a price drop? It is selling like hot cakes. The demand for it is ridiculously high.
I really don't understand people's logic when they say this.

lol at the amount of pure ignorance about Europe in that podcast.

Yeah we don't like MS, because the EU fined them over IE 10 years ago. When we decide to buy a console, we are like "darn it MS and your evil internet browser practises, we won't buy your console now! Take that, you!"

That must be it...

Oh and we don't like American products in general.

.......

Think I will stop now before I go blind for rolling my eyes.
