REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo invites fans in the Los Angeles area to attend and observe the first-ever public tournament of its new Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

On Tuesday, June 10, Nintendo will welcome 16 previously selected highly skilled Super Smash Bros. players to NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles to celebrate Super Smash Bros. fan culture and find out who will emerge victorious on the big stage. The Super Smash Bros. Invitational will entertain thousands of spectators in person, and will also be live-streamed on both Twitch’s E3 channel and Nintendo’s Twitch channel to let countless others around the world be among the first to see the new game in action.

As a special treat for the biggest fans, attendees who dress up as their favorite Super Smash Bros. characters may be selected for priority seating right in front of the stage on which the tournament will occur. The event will be photographed and filmed, so the best costumes might appear on Twitch or Nintendo’s YouTube channel, where the event can also be viewed.

Glad to know that they're streaming this :D

I wonder what the format is going to be?

I hope this means that Nintendo is recognizing the competitive aspect of Smash (at least in some form).
Sounds cool.

so Nintendo wanted to have an event in the Nokia theater where there were thousands of fans instead of thousands of press. I can dig that.

Something you should not miss :

Even apparently takes place at 4PM.

This is 4PM PDT and the roundtable is at 7PM PDT, so, this might last 1-2 hours, enough time for sakurai to grab dinner and head over to the roundtable, i'd imagine.

It is still wierd to have 3000+ Nintendo fans miss the digital event because they are lining up for bands.

The event is at 9 and people will be lining up at 9:30 or am I reading it wrong?

I'm sure they can watch on their phones

I'm also sure it's worth it to them anyway.

You really think they wouldn't recognize that even when they're hosting this event?

I'm very sure that SSB4 for Wii U will have an online tournament mode, maybe even lobbies and a spectator mode.
Or one of the above at least.

So I might miss the digital event live in order to get these ?! Wtf?!

I might end up watching the whole event on my cellphone 😪..

Or Nintendo might be nice enough to have giant displays at the line !!!!!

They have already said the wristband is not based on a first come first serve basis. You just have to go there anytime (after 9:30 and before the event) to collect the wristband, leave and then return at a later time for the event.

This sounds awesome. lol

And yay Twitch.

I wish the Digital Event was live from that event so we could see the audience reaction and a nice stage :( They have such a big stage just for fucking Smash Bros, why not for announcing new games -_-

Daigo, Infiltration, Justin Wong
I don't think Nintendo's quite that naive.

Does anyone want to bet that anyone other than M2K will win? He seems like the obvious favourite.

Also, here's the bingo in case anyone hasn't seen it yet:

3000 people in a huge room with 16 professionals, cosplay and Smash goodness and all that on the official Twitch E3 stream

Very good job by Nintendo, this is what I want to see more of in the future

I'm almost as excited for this as I am for the Digital Event. It's going to be a glorious E3. And I want one of those wristbands (damn me living so far away).

It WOULD be a goob job of Nintendo but the fact that they are not doing a live conference on such a big stage and instead promoting one game is such a mess.

This looks like it is going to be way bigger than ANY normal E3 presentation...

This should be a great spectacle.

Sooo, Do you want to see

3000 people in a huge room with 16 Tekken professional players, cosplays, and Pokken goodness and all that on the official Twitch E3 stream at 2015?!

I don't understand Ninendo. Why not make Digital Event right after the Smash Event and then make a live stream in which they announce new games, so they could use a great stage and a audience for their announcements. This is so dumb from Nintendo, as always. Instead we get a pre-recorded video without any emotions... Fine for Smash fans but for everyone else it's a wasted opportunity.

M2K needs to practice before he's good. Mango has a much better shot if they're winging it.

Bill Trinen is the best person they invite.

So 16 highly skilled will play a game they never played before :-D

Is it the 80/90s again? With Mario 3 footage being shown in this weird movie..."It's the power glove...it's so bad!"

But come on this is gonna be the hypest thing at e3. 3000 people in one room will be screaming loud as hell. This is gonna be a mini evo only for smash bros.

As cool as this is, I still can't help but get the feeling they're going to mess this up somehow. I hate to be a downer, but ugh.

There's going to be terrible players there. Or good players who didn't have any time with the game to actually know what they're doing. Or it'll be a timed battle with items. Or it'll have terrible commentators from the Nintendo Treehouse. Or something. There's just no way this will be as cool as it sounds.

If they pull this off though, I think it could be one of the best E3 moments ever. I'm really excited to see it. Just please, pluck your players, commentators, and rule set from the pre-established Smash community. Don't be stubborn on this.

Also, if the winner plays an extra battle against Sakurai that'd be hype as fuck.
