Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Whoever it was that was worried about palette swaps awhilleeeeee ago: I told you they wouldn't be gone lol.

Core features like that and team battles go hand-in-hand. They've been in the series since the N64, they're not just gonna take out stuff like that.

For what it's worth, "It's been a year" is on there twice. Votes for both should be taken into account for the final number.

The choices of thread titles isn't fantastic, but
A Song Of Fire & Ice Climbers
made me laugh, so I picked that one.
That's like one of the worst ones, the words aren't even in the right order.

What happened to that one? It was the best IMO.

It didn't get submitted to the suggestion box.

I don't know why people are still voting for Ridley titles since nothing's ever gonna beat "Ridley's Believe it or Not!".
Ridley in Smash Bros is a meme. People like memes. Besides, the title "still talking about Ridley" is perfect, because that is one of the things the Smash fandom do in a daily basis.

The poll for the next thread title is now live!!! To get the link to the poll, just quote this post to reveal it. Remember: If you don't vote and he next thread title ends up sucking, then it's your fault (unless IntelliHeath doesn't go with the winning title, then it's his fault).

There are way too many choices there. Exercise some judgment and remove all but 10 clever titles.

I like these i modified or came up with:
A Song of Fire Emblem & Ice Climbers
We're up all night to get...Lucario?
Oh Shiek! It's time
The Way of the Sakurai
The 101 Wonderful Disappointments
Shulk SMASH!

I voted for the brotha one.

Way of the Sakurai ruins the joke, the whole point was that a lot of phones autocorrect Sakurai to Samurai. And Lucario seems a little dated, yeah? Same with sheik.

Honestly, I would like to use Ridley in title only if he got confirmed to be playable character. Like this, OT9: Ridley isn't big enough to stay out of the game

yeah, you're gonna have to take the top 10 choices or so and do another round, otherwise the "winner" will have like 10% of the vote

Naw, I don't think it's needed. At long, It has been old is winning then I'm fine with it.

It's funny because mirroring is a quick and easy way in 2D games to generate sprites facing in different directions. In 3D games it's a whole other beast, but the similarity of the effect kind of cheapens the effort.
It is not only a way to create easy sprites, if also has to other benefits to simply mirror a character:
First is the possibility of more visual interesting stances and animations. Something what looks great from the front, can look strange or unrecognizable from the back. The best example would be Greninja stance, which would not look as good from behind. You would need to create special sprites or animations to have both look great.

But the second point is much more important. If a character would look different from behind or hide animations with his back, those players would have an advantage. Imagine that in Street Fighter IV the second player, which character would stand with his back to the camera, would have two short and fast jabs. One at an angle and the other straight forwards. The first player has only seconds to decide, if he blocks low or high. But since most of the character animation is behind his back, the player has a much harder time to read the attack. But the other player can ride his much more easier. If you would have two different animation for the front and the back, your opponent and you have to learn double the animations to read the attacks of the players.
That's why in Street Fighter IV, even so it is in 3D, the fighters are still mirrored. You can have great looking animation, keep the learning of your opponents move simple and be sure, that the match is fair for both sides.

In Smash Bothers this isn't needed as much, since there is only one kind of defense and many animations are very flashy especially for characters with weapons. I guess, that's why mainly characters without weapons and with big bodies or width stances, got those mirrored animations.

Cant believe song o fire and ice climbers is getting so many votes.

Yeah...no. I'm not going to cull any titles if I don't think they're funny/clever enough, because, to me, that defeats the entire purpose of this exercise, since I want the thread regulars to pick the title from ALL possible options rather than have just one member choose it for them because it's what he finds funny/clever/fitting, even if everyone else doesn't think so.

On a runoff, though? Yeah, we might have something like that when we hit page #188. I'm still not 100% on it.

Cool Picture of the day. I noticed this about megaman back at E3 last year. His buster arm changes depending on which direction he's facing. It's a really neat detail that matches up with his original sprite.

Watch the developer direct and pay attention to his buster arm. It's neat to watch it transform as he changes directions. It has an animation and everything. The attention to detail in this game is insane.

I like the 'get on it and ride it' part, but it doesn't work without 'hype train' included first.

Went with the year one. I like how plain and kinda cynical it and the Ridley still ones are. I don't get the fire and ice thing. I'm not familiar with whatever it's referencing.
