Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Looking at characters not shown yet, Wario stands out as someone who is not being shown for a reason. He's obviously returning, but it might be a Yoshi situation.

Maybe they're holding him back because he's had major changes to his move pool that they feel needs to be shown in a video, like Yoshi?

He had an... odd move pool in Brawl, maybe they're adjusting it to be more "Wario" and not just kind of a goofy assortment of moves not particularly related to Wario.

Thought I'd go ahead and make a roster for myself. I went with a more conservative 45 characters (I think anything above 50 is...unlikely,) with 11 newcomers and 4 getting the axe - Lucas, Wolf, Snake, and ROB.

Maybe he got lazy and bloated and now walks on all-fours.

Indeed.

I'd be willing to bet money that he'll show up during E3.

Wth is going with the jigglypuff, last match was last match, all respect, and now he's actually doing pretty well against chary

EDIT: He lost 2-0, but most were expecting 4-0, and he only paid $7

I think if we were getting TWENTY, we'd have more than 6 revealed by now, considering the game is 3-ish months away. By 3 months before release for brawl (japanese Jan 31 date), we had 11 newcomers revealed. Granted, we didn't have an E3 coming up, but that's almost DOUBLE what we have now. Assuming we don't get more than 3-4 cuts, 20 newcomers would put the final roster at nearly 60 characters, which is INSANE. Sakurai himself said he didn't want to add characters for the sake of increasing the roster. I think we're reaching the tipping point where in order to actuall TRY to balance the game, they have to keep the roster at a manageable size.

With 20ish newcomers, we're looking at Marvel Vs Capcom 2 sized roster, which is infamously one of the most imbalanced fighting games ever. I just don't think it's feasible to even attempt to balance that many characters in one game. That would require so much time and money on their part, and probably tons of post-release patches. This is assuming they want a balanced game, and with the way he talked about online in the direct, it sounds like they do.

I think 8-12 is fair, but I really doubt we'll have a roster increase as large as before, and definitely not larger.

*IF* I'm wrong, I'll eat my words, because 20 newcomers would be AMAZING, but I just don't see it happening :/

Yeah 20 is way too much and unrealistic. I picked that number because I believe thats what Sakurai was referring to when he talked about how many characters are realistic in the creation process with the given amount of development time. I mean when you think about the cut characters from Brawl it was even more then that. Though that is why in my last post I said by the end of development you would cut about a 5th of that making about 15 or 16 brand new characters which I think is extremely likely.

Now about seeing less characters now than we did with Brawl, Sakurai had mad a conscious decision to show the newer characters sooner rather than later during Brawl's development. What was the result of that? Darn near everyone felt like they knew all about the game and it's characters before it even launched. I have a feeling he took that criticism to heart and that is exactly why new characters are being given to us so slowly as well as simpler things like "Pic Of The Day" rather than a real dojo. Of course I could be wrong and maybe my expectations are too high but just thinking about that fairly credible leak with Shulk and the Rhythm kids that is still a lot of new characters to reveal and I bet most will be secret until the games release.

And honestly a big part of me thinks Sakurai went into this game with Brawls developers in mind and when he really saw how efficient Namco's guys were, things revved up considerably.

Trust me, I know how these things work. ;)

Three of Wario's special moves and his Final Smash are taken from WarioWare, and his standard attacks fit the spirit of the WarioWare series. I wouldn't really say they're not "related" to him.

Standard Special Move (1|2|3|4)
Side Special Move (1|2|3)
Down Special Move (1)
Final Smash

I hope that everyone knows that if Roy is coming back he'll probably be changed much like Bowser and ZSS. If not more to further de-clone himself from Marth, ALA Falco and Wolf.

So we're gonna crash GAF.

404s for everyone. I could have sworn that even the Smash Direct 404'd gaf for a little bit. I might just be recalling incorrectly.

Speaking of, it's nice that apparently my main, Sonic, sucked in Brawl. So he should be even better in this game!

To be fair, I hope lots of low tier characters get super buffed. I love DK and Bowser. But yeah, can't really ever win 1v1s

Love Bowser, I hope he gets buffed too. From what I can tell in gameplay videos he looks a lot better, that's for sure.

I normally main newcomers though, and Little Mac is calling my name!

Ugh... Is it bad that I wish Smash was coming out before Mario Kart? I don't even have a Wii U yet, but i've been playing a ton of Brawl at a friend's house. I was turned off by Melee and assumed Brawl was similar. Nope. I was wrong. So I'm really excited to see the new game for both the 3ds and Wii U.

Nah, woulda loved Smash before Mario Kart... but Mario Kart will hold me over until the 3DS version is released.
