NWA 2S or 2C?

Is this picture really bad news for Jony Ive?

Match made in heaven

"Beats' profit margins in the headphone market may be substantial. A pair of its high-end headphones retail for as much as $450, but production costs across the brand run only about $14 a pair, according to The New York Times. Apple said the deal would add to earnings in fiscal 2015."
Jeez, wow.

It's a potentially scary acquisition for Apple because their past buyouts have targeted emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and software design whereas purchasing Beats nets them a brand name and little more. Like Google, Apple takes some of their acquired tech and folds it into later versions of their products. In the case of AI, they later folded that into development for Siri years ago.

If the Beats brand fades in popularity then this potentially leaves them with even less.

they get the CEO of Interscope Records and Dre who have many ties in the industry.

This is less about headphones and more about getting two huge music industry guys on their board.

Google bought Motorola for 12 billion and it blew up on them. No one cared. Why? This amount is pocket change to them.

but see that was a good buy because of reasons

I'm not buying the brand recognition. 25 years ago Walkman's were everywhere. Beats is just another fad, no one over 30 buys this brand.

What a colossal waste of money. If Apple wants to get into the headphones with bad audio quality market, there are far easier ways to do it.

Are there easier ways to remove your biggest competition?

Those under-30 people buying it will eventually become over-30, you know.

Beats has over 70% market share of high end headphones worldwide. Think about that for a second before trashing the brands worth.

Dre won. Monster lost

According to the WSJ, Iovine is leaving his chair at Interscope to work full time at Apple. Major news for the hip hop industry if that's case.

hm.

Mr. Iovine said he would leave his post as chairman of Vivendi SA VIV.FR -0.18% 's Interscope Records and will work full-time at Apple. Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, said he would continue to produce music but do "as much as it takes" for Apple.

Mr. Iovine, a longtime friend of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, said the two men's titles would simply be "Jimmy and Dre." They will work with both Apple's electronics and music-streaming divisions, spending as much time at Apple's Cupertino, Calif., campus as necessary, while serving more broadly to bridge the cultural divide between technology and entertainment industries.

I find Apple creating close ties with the hip hop industry very interesting.

Beats look great aesthetically, and the sound they produce is very easy to like if you've never used a pair of monitor headphones. The beats may not be the best but they've got mainstream consumers curious about spending $300 on headphones.

There's potential here for Apple to produce a pair of badass consumer grade headphones, or maybe they have visions of turning the brand into something bigger.

Huh?

Beats made 1.4 Billion in revenue last year. Even if Beats fade, I'm pretty sure Apple will recoup the 3 Billion easy over the lifetime of the acquisition. 3 Billions is really nothing for Apple.

Iovine is gonna work for the company that makes devices that plays the music he can't sell. Fascinating how business works.

Everyone talkin' shit about Beats hasn't used a new pair of Beats lately.

Its true, the newest models are actually pretty good. You can still do better, but if you absolutely want noise canceling then they are one of the better choices and they are very comfortable.

From people I know who work there they have many interesting things being prototyped and have hired a lot more people internally to do hardware. Their previous designs were largely outsourced or used non-custom components.

It's a smart business purchase by Apple, but I think this might make some people uncomfortable with the direction of Apple. There is nothing really romantic about this news, and it probably doesn't help that Google is going around with pretty good PR trying to paint themselves as this futrue looking company. The juxtaposition of this with Google's news of the day potentially makes Apple seem really shallow in comparison.

Still, it makes a lot of sense for a purchase, and I'm sure we'll see some cool and interesting things from Apple at wwdc in a few weeks

The price is not ridiculous considering they did 1.3 billion in sales in 2013 and have high profit margins.

Not exactly sure why Apple really wants Beats but it's an interesting move for them.

Maybe someone intern at Apple can fix that piece of shit app. Hell, it is such a turd I bet that homeless dude that was taught coding could do better.

Do you have anything to contribute other than a bunch of "u mad" posts over and over?

I don't know, does anyone else have anything to contribute other than "ermahgawd Steve is rolling in his grave!" or "herpa derp this sucks! Fucking Beats suck! I hate the rap!"

a good 3/4 of posts are "I'm mad" so I'm just pointing out that...yes, yes they are mad.

Don't be mad bro, be glad! Be glad for Beats co-founders and employees! Don't like beats? Don't buy them; pretty simple.

Exactly and it's already accretive next year.

Also do any of you people shitting on this deal invest in the stock market such as amazon, tesla and Facebook etc.,

Cause if you do and you shit on this deal you should look at the fundamentals of those companies before shitting on this deal.
