Fighting Games Weekly | May 26-June 1 | Thank you, Keits

Pretty sure that's just steam version of SSFAE being unoptimized, will probably be fixed in a week or before ultra. The waiting for other player messages doesn't appear from what I've see on consoles (except before matches).

Yeah, I'm pretty much specifically talking before and after the removal of GFWL on PC. Online on PC has gotten drastically worse since the update. Online on console seems to be much better from what I've seen.

It will probably get fixed, but for now it is unplayable for me.

I played Steam SSF4 AE 2014 all day and 3/10 of my matches had the annoying 'Waiting for player'. Other than that the connections were really good, I can't tell if it's better than GFWL because there are more people playing right now and therefore potentially a better chance at getting a better connection so the comparison would be unfair.

What I do miss though is the ability to quickly 'GG' someone after a match, it feels rude leaving without saying anything to the other player :[

Overall after all the complaints, GFWL wasn't that bad yes : )

until 2 months back after the last GFWL patch where you would get random d/c's from other players every few matches for no reason.

I'm suspecting either that or they're experimenting with some new netcode.

When the netcode works, it works better than before.

I'm almost as hyped for EVO this year as I am E3. I didn't get into fighting games until around a week after EVO last week, so I missed out on watching all the hype unfold live. Not this year though!

You'll definitely will be in for a treat - the biggest fighting tournament in the world, with the biggest fighting game crowds. International talent with the best in the world. This year us going to be nuts especially with Ultra being so new.

I watched most of the top 16 vods available on youtube. So I kinda know what to expect, but watching something live always adds that bit of excitement to it that's missing when watching vods. And yes Ultra is gonna be crazy town :D

Yeah, it just seems like once he gets in I get fucking wrecked. I'm out of the D leagues so a lot less people fall for the EX SBK and even just bait it out. Probably doesn't help that I'm just not too familiar with him at all. That has been one interesting thing in coming back to the game after years of watching FGC livestreams in that for most characters I have an idea of what they can do, but then certain characters/ultras I just never see on stream so I have no idea.

I did finally hit 1000 PP, I've only mostly been playing Ranked because Endless lobbies tend to instantly boot you if you don't have at least 1k PP, so I'm hoping I can get some of that going now.
Throw gouken a lot. They love abusing his parry, so throws mess up their game. If you go air to air her jump double fierce can beat out his air parry as well.

If your reactions are strong then you can beat his fireballs with Ultra 1, especially keep an eye out for gouken to charge the fireball.

Also if you're near him you can do her instant overhead with her head stomp. If he parries it whiffs and he's left vulnerable, if he blocks you can try for a cross up with lk. It's still risky so don't abuse this tactic but it's definitely lead to me winning some matches against goukens.

EVO is amazing, look more forward to it every year than I do E3. Even better if you ever have the chance to attend, and unlike E3 you don't need to be in the industry to experience it for yourself.

Going to both this year! Getting hyped

Agreed on the throw Gouken loads comment. Force him to start guessing with Ex Tatsu then bait it and go for the KO.

I think there is something to be said for spending the first round or so testing what your opponent does in various scenarios. Throw it in his face with smart counter tactics and footsies then watch to see how they adapt. Once you can get an idea for how peop!e adapt you see it faster and can quickly shift into gear to beat their adaption. For example, I might disrespect people by blowing up their early attempts at pressure because I want them to either show no adaption (meaning I can safely begin making reads) or start adapting so I can shift gears and beat the player as opposed to just beating someone's character.

Good advice, thanks! I forget headstomp could instant overhead, I do sometimes get people with the jumpback roundhouse overhead (?). I'm still working on my Ultra I fireball punishes, I definitively don't have them 100% but I can do them fairly reliably.

As a (relatively) fresh player coming into the game now it's actually kind of a pain in the ass to find good up to date and reliable info on characters. Searching Youtube is kind of a crapshoot, and the character-specific forums on SRK that I've looked at are largely a goddamn mess of multiple sticky threads spanning stuff back to the original release. I only know as much as I do from watching livestreams over the past few years, as a completely brand new player I'd have to imagine it's significantly harder to break in.

Like most matches, you can outpoke Gouken as well. Basically just be willing to be patient, her anti-air sucks for now so you're usually better going air to air with Gouken or just avoiding the situation all together off a jump in (dash away etc). Gouken should lose to Chun overall, I feel. He has strong damage but that's really about it.

As stupid as the stream chat gets almost every time, it always adds to the live hype.

And boy did I make a ton of mistakes in my post before this one, wow. Typing while tired. Don't even feel like editing it to correct them all.

I take back what I said about ae pc online being fine, haven't gotten a decent connection the whole day. This garbage isn't worth anyone's time until they fix it. Can't fucking believe I'm saying this, but I want GFWL back.

I'm not even practicing on it anymore because the game feels really strange now. Like the update introduce some input lag or reduced the frame rate(never checked on this though). I'm not sure what it is but it just doesn't feel like the same game I've been playing all this time. Kind of similar to how someone goes from playing only on the Xbox version to the PS3 version for the first time.

It is a bit off. Have you disabled the cloud features? I noticed they are broken, maybe it is doing some sort of sync in offline mode too?

Online, before you would get lag, but not everything feels different and the frequent pauses just completely throws you (or gets you thrown). It is one thing to have a move come out slower, it is a different thing to press a button and have nothing happen at all.

But I have faith it'll be fixed. At least they can get this all sorted before Ultra hits.

Hmm, maybe it isn't just because I'm having a bad day then. It feels like I've been dropping links far more than usual even in training mode ever since the update. Something felt off but I figured that maybe I just needed more sleep or something.

I've done this for a decade!

Though I do miss that brief period when demos used to release simultaneously on XBL as they did on the E3 show floor.

Same here. I usually switch from pc to ps3 version so I attributed it to that, but i usually correct the timing rather quickly. Today things just feel off for me as well especially after pre-loading Ultra my game has just kinda been bonkers lately.

Oh well gives me more time to play GGAC+R.

Well that was uhhh....nice... vacation.

Ok so I'm getting super hyped for Ultra. I was really bummed about some of the balance changes, but after thinking about them, some of them actually make sense. They punish reckless play and I think I can get behind that.

The Sagat tiger shot nerf is bullshit though

Anyone know how to get the HORI Fighting Edge for PS3 setup on PC? I reformated my PC and now it seems that my PC doesn't recognize it anymore. Before I was able to plug it in and the PC would recognize and install the driver immediately.

There's good ps3 to xbox converters for pads but for sticks I don't know. Don't you just have to install one of those ps360 things to make your stick work on both systems?
Why wouldn't you be able to use the same converters as the pads? Wouldn't a PS3 pad and stick have the same PCBs inside?

I dunno exactly check out the converter thread on SRK. Converters that work perfectly on original 360 and ps3 pads like the mayflash 360 to PS3/PS3 to 360 converter don't work well with sticks like madcatz TE, etc according to them. I'm not a stick user though so I have no experience in testing sticks on specific converters

I have no issues. You might want to check if the graphic setting got reverted to default.
Vsync: OFF
Framerate: Fixed
Filtering: Default
AntiAliasing: OFF

Huh. Alright, I'll check that thread out then. Curious about the reasons why.
http://www.twitch.tv/numakie is LIVE from REBEL UP! Vampire Savior and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure tournaments are about to start!
Sweet. Stuck inside on a perfectly good Saturday night, so this will ease the pain.

I just tried it again, my settings are exactly the same as it was before. I do finally realize why it feels off to me. The game runs like I have a PC from 2006. Everything just feels kind of slow and off. When moving around with my character in training mode, he wouldn't jump forward when I input up forward several times. So their might be more to it then just that.
