a few of my (white, obv) friends were plastering this all over facebook. idk I never liked Morgan Freeman

i dont think hes talking statistically

he probly means it shouldn't have to matter

Right, I mean that's the thing about it: there's certainly a humanitarian point he's making that underlies what he's getting it: anyone can accomplish their dreams kinda thing. That "no" doe.

Rich people being out of touch, go figure. Some guy on Fox talking about this said income inequality was a positive for the poor and that they should want the rich to get more. #47% let them eat cake...

He was on Colbert a couple days ago (can't watch the video at work if that's what it is) and he made it seem more like GENETICALLY there is no impact, which is true.

Is a fact or consensus based viewpoint something that we as a society should require or expect from a 77 year old movie star? Are people really disappointed in him like he's some kind of role model? As if his life experience being different from most humans should have no effect on his opinions or outlook?

So he doesn't know. No big deal.

And? Data says otherwise.

Is this akin to the idea that if one minority agrees that it's not a problem, then it isn't? Morgan Freeman is the sole representation? Like when a woman says there's no sexism?

He's the narrator of life.

And he will say age and family relation means nothing when dating.

He knows better, but would rather play it safe

Yeah this is like his Black History Month thing too.

It's like, you're not wrong, Morgan Freeman, you're just talking about the world that should be instead of the world that is. We'll get there eventually, but not this way.

Well, he's wrong. Alot of people do think this way though. They want to believe that the US is a meritocracy that simply rewards those who work hard and that wealth among families and communities has nothing to do with future success. They think this way because they cant believe that the world could be so unfair.

they think that way because they've made it so the only thing going through their mind is "fuck you, I got mine" and that everyone else who didn't make it must be lazy

He's wrong, but better life-affirming naivete than life-denying resentment. The pros of being rich and successful.

People dont quote and give soapboxes to Morgan Freeman because he knows a lot about this subjects, its his ignorance what gave him this position in the first place.

because of this i wouldnt really critique him for saying this kind of stuff its really casual small talk material thats overblown because hes morgan freeman

i could image a conversation between larry david and richard lewis dealing with the same thing hheheheh

While I like his attitude that people should strive for success the "you and I are proof of that" line is incredibly idiotic. Come on dude. You think being the exception to the rule is proof of anything? I'm sure the one dude from the projects getting an acedemic scholarship is proof that your economic situation has no bearing on chance of success.

I love Morgan Freeman, but I think his ideas about race are pretty dumb.

This. His views on race are nothing new. Love the man, love his talent, but he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about here, and that's unfortunate. He could be doing some good work here to champion these causes.

His opinion may be wrong but his smooth and buttery voice is oh so right. Keep talking freeman, I'll listen. I'll always listen.
