Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

If the S-Flag being the Namco assist trophy theory comes true, I'd rather Pac-Man be part of that. But I suppose it's inevitable at this point.

I'm not a fan of PacMan but hey more fighters, right?
I think if people approach Pac-Man with an open mind, they will at least derive some satisfaction from him as an icon of our industry and all the history he represents. :-)

I'm seriously PUMPED for Pac-Man. Just show him already! I crave the first screenshot that has Mario, Sonic, Mega Man and Pac-Man all together. :-)

I made this earlier today. Any suggestions for anymore

I can't wait for someone to make a Project B mod that adds random tripping and other Brawl things to smash 4

Why would they want to do that?

So I must have missed something but why is everyone saying Pac-Man is a shoe-in for this game? Did something leak about him a while ago that I missed?

The game is co-developed by NAMCO, so if there's a third 3rd party character he'd be the most obvious choice.

It's the fact that Namco Bandai is working with Sakurai to make the game plus the special flag item plus I think a statement that Sakurai would like to put Pacman in out of the Namco characters (I'm probably misremembering this)

I fully expect there to be a surprise character that hasn't been mentioned in the leak and who isn't Ridley at E3.

Like surprise on the level of R.O.B.

With 3000 people at the Smash event, what are the chances that we'll see a character reveal there for maximum excitement?
And what character could even cause that excitement?

There's also this:

My inquiry about Namco Bandai characters did lead Sakurai to ask me a question in return - if I had to pick one character, which Namco Bandai character would I want in Super Smash Bros.? The answer seemed obvious to me - the original arcade version of Pac-Man. Sakurai then asked me what a Final Smash might look like for that, and we started to discuss how how Pac-Man could become super-powered, and chase other characters around a stage, attempting to eat them. It was a surreal discussion to say the least, but shows that Sakurai is always contemplating what else he might add to his projects, packing them full of as much content as possible.

All I want from Pac-Man is his final smash turns everyone blue, they slow down and shiver and Pac man goes all 8-bit and you need to eat them. If that isn't his final smash I'll rage.

Twelve newcomers really isn't that improbable at this point. I know everybody wants more than 12, but when you consider the 3DS version will likely be out before October, and when you consider we've already seen six, Sakurai would seem right on track with his reveal schedule. Then consider all the extra work that is going into the veterans, which is obviously more than before, and... Well, the Gematsu leak could be it. Which is why it'll be very exciting if a newcomer not on the list shows up at E3. :-)
Yeah, but with no story mode, I feel like they could cram quite a few more characters than we would expect.

At the very least, after all the teasing, I think atleast Ridley would be in or else that would be the biggest troll of all time. (I don't care much either way, but after playing Super Metroid for the first time last month I want him in.)

But if Squartle, Ivysaur, and Snake is cut thats 49 characters, 48 without Ridley. I just feel you can't get that far and not get to 50. It just wouldn't feel right. :P

Maybe the unlikely three won't be cut, or atleast Snake. Or maybe we will just end up with a 49 or 48 character roster. I honesly wish Sakurai would do more clones to get characters in. But that most likely won't happen.

Ah well. At the very least this is the first portable Smash, in addition to a Smash with good online. (Hopefully) Plus I like Villlager, Rosalina, Greninja, Wii Fit Trainer, Palutena, Mii, and Choir Kids so I guess thats actually a few characters that I do like, it just seems small...

I just find it hilarious if the leak is real that they would have three blue haired swordsmen from the same franchise when the franchise itself seems to have such a great variety. (Maybe I'm wrong tho, never played it, but plan to in a couple months with FE:A)

Also, if its all the newcomers from the leak, I really don't like the pacing of the reveals, like you have two newcomer swordsmen, but already half the newcomers are revealed and neither of them were revealed? Just seems like odd pacing. (Yes I know they'd play completely different.) Also I'd wish that most newcomers were secret unlockables, but two-four seems to be the max like Brawl. :/

I'm glad that a majority of veterans are starters. Atleast Sakurai's doing that right.

How long is the Digital Direct?

If it's about 45min, I don't expect to see too much Smash.

Well, we have the Smash Invitational and a full 90 minutes for just Smash Q&A.
So they could not even show it at the Digital Event and we'd still get more info on it from E3 than we have all of last year.

I can see it now. The winner steps up and is congratulated, but in Gary-fashion Sakurai will step up and say he's still the champion and then challenge the winner to a battle.

Sakurai's character?

His Mii.

The room goes FUCKING INSANE.

The winner should have to fight Sakurai, Reggie, and someone else. 1 vs 3 and all three have their unique Miis. We all know the winner could take a 1 vs 3 with ease but it would be cooler in my opinion.

We'll probably just get a bit of B-roll with Iwata telling everyone to watch the Invitational later that day, and maybe a release date if we're really lucky.

I'd say we'll still get a general trailer plus a widely appealing newcomer in the direct, it's more wise to share those things to a wider audience than in the Smash events, which will likely only be watched by Smash fans anyway.

My predictions:

Direct:
General game trailer, showing a few returning vets, including SNake (opening the trailer with his familiar 'Kept you waiting, huh?')
Newcomer hype trailer for Pacman

Invitational:
Surprise character reveal for secret player - most likely a Mii of themselves. Could be Sakurai, Reggie, etc but could even be the 'people's challenger' or Geoff Knightley or whatever

Round table:
A third newcomer, someone cool with a bit of unexpected flavour, but not massively appealing. A Palutena or something could work here.

Invitational:
Surprise character reveal for secret player - most likely a Mii of themselves. Could be Sakurai, Reggie, etc but could even be the 'people's challenger' or Geoff Knightley or whatever

Now THAT would be a spectacle. "This game reminds me a little of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. Speaking of Sony, what did you think of their show?"

I swear we'd better get a Geoff vs. Reggie battle of the Miis or this E3 will be a massive disappointment.
/s
I could totally see this happening.

Geoff: "And thus concludes our Smash Bros. Invitational! Thank you all for coming! Please enjoy the rest of this year's E--"

Reggie: "GEOFF!"

*room falls silent*

*Geoff slowly turns and sees a shirtless Reggie standing at the far end of the Nokia Theatre, his chiseled pectoral muscles sparkling with a sheen of Haitian sweat as his barrel-like chest heaves up and down*

Reggie: "I'm sick of your shit, Geoff. Today, we battle."

*They both pick their Miis, while the transparent image of Iwata's head appears superimposed over the L.A. sunset, watching with a proud tear*

It seems smash bros is the game of nintendo this year!

Nice! Just got mine as well!

The character that would absolutely cause riots of joy at the tournament would definitely be Ridley. Anyone who follows Smash speculation on any forum in any universe has debated about Ridley or watched debates from afar. But thinking about it it now Sakurai needs to use his power wisely because revealing Ridley there might actually cause mass hysteria resulting in injuries and structural damage.

A part of me says no, Ridley playable is just too good to be true. Another part of me asks why all the teasing for something that has been more or less done before, twice in the previous version?

Mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish, pickles, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, cole slaw, chili, cheese, etc

All of these things are great on various kinds of sandwiches
