  • Demo is 30 mins long
  • Bloodborne is more aggressive than Demon's Souls
  • The city is called 'Biarnhem' ?
  • City is very densely layered. 'More complex than Thief'
  • Combat is much more aggressive
  • They dual wielded in the demo: Firearm and what they call a 'Sawcleaver' one in each hand.
  • Firearms are a close-range weapon, to stun enemies, create counter-attack opportunities.
  • Sawcleaver was transformable, and many weapons will be.
  • 'You cannot play this the same way as Demon's Souls' - Have to be more aggressive
  • Targetting the same level of difficulty as Demon's Souls.

FWIW the official Sony page says the city name is Yharnam

How was the sound design? One of my favorite things about the Souls games is how eerie and frankly quiet they are. There's an emphasis on ambient sound as opposed to blockbuster clang and crash, and I'm curious if Bloodborne follows suit.

Sorry it was loud at the expo and the volume wasn't super loud.

I just came from a showing of this game. I couldnt get any video/photo of it since it was prohibited, but it looked incredible. The art style resembles a 17th century England, which is a departure from the fantasy knight type setting.
The player is much more agile, beng able to move in and out much more quickly. Yoy are also foregoing the standard sword shield combo for a shotgun and sword/scythe hybrid. There is a short, quick attack with the sword, but it could opens up and transforms into a cleaver for a longer ranged but slower attack. The shotgun is pretty standard but there is a pretty long recovery period to precemt you from spamming it.
Bloodborne is definitely reminiscent of the souls games, but feels different at the same time. The demo was still pretty rough though, hovering near the low 20s at times, but I attribute that more to it still being early. Definitely impressed and really looking forward to it!
Quoted for new page.

24 hours ago, I didn't have a PS4, now I just ordered one and I can't believe this game comes out in less than a year.

Nice, thanks for the impressions! Were you able to see anything in regards to death mechanics? Wondering if death/respawning works like Souls at all.

I suspect this is because the demo is an early build that, while looking gorgeous, has frame rate issues. While the framerate will be fixed before release, Sony probably doesn't want thread after thread on various forums complaining about the framerate, based on the E3 demo.
Indeed, the moment a second mention of framerate came from different source, it seemed likely that this was the cause. Not very presentable yet outside screenshots and press previews

No TLG but this is just as good.
I can't believe I'm agreeing with this sentence... but yeah

The aggressive combat sounds so awesome. My preferred style in all the Souls games was a no-shield, more aggressive play style where I would hit super hard but still be mobile, so this game sounds perfect in that regard. Cannot wait!

Did anyone notice any framerate issues in that small clip of the leaked footage? I wonder if that is why they pulled it from TGS. But that was long ago. Weird.

This right here concerns me to no end.

It could turn out awesome, of course, and I hope it does, but the 'Souls game feeling' would be lost and it would not be the spiritual successor that I want.

My most wanted game for sure. I just can't wait!

Has there been any mention of player creation and invading?

Player creation is 100% confirmed. Invasion stuff is still up in the air. There's a rumor about what's in Famitsu about it, but it may not be true, so I won't post it again since people will likely be very disappointed if it doesn't play out like that.

Yep, agreed. Dodging is so much more fun and effective than blocking. I very rarely use shields these days.

Unfortunately they were playing on God mode so I couldn't see what happens when they died. And they didn't give any glimpse of how the online component is gonna work.
But the game definitely looks challenging. The enemies hit hard and there are much more mobs on screen. They also showcased some moments where you can cut through alleys to avoid encounters and mentioned that you could use stealth by hiding and letting mobs pass through.
They also said they are going to emphasize more on the story, but it seems like they're going to follow the souls route by letting the environments speak for the lore.

damn it, I was searching for bloodborne and came across a video where a nurse gets splattered in the face with infected blood from a patient in a hospital.

It did not. Check the link on the previous page. You can't deny that this caused confusion. They have released two slightly different trailers with mentions of it being a exclusive and developed by sony japan after the fact to try and rectify this issue.
No, it did not.

My mistake.
They sure didn't make a sharp decision. How much would it take to put a "Sony Computer Entertainment" at the beginning of the stream trailer for 2 seconds?

Anybody see any confirmation on whether or not this is open world similar to Dark Souls or stage-based like Demon's Souls?
All the info I've seen suggests open world-ish. There hasn't even been a central hub mentioned yet.

Which is easily for the better.
What is that chain thing on the players scarf in that screenshot?
Seems like an amulet of sorts. Either it's part of the armor, or it's something similar to the ring system in the Souls games only this time with a visual representation.

It could turn out awesome, of course, and I hope it does, but the 'Souls game feeling' would be lost and it would not be the spiritual successor that I want.

I'm sure there will be Dark Souls 3 to follow that formula more closely. I'm glad they're taking some risks and changing it up a bit.

Either way, it seems to be the spiritual successor that everyone else wants!

I think it might work with this game. It definitely feels like a souls game, but there are more enemies on screen so I think being more agile works better since there's a bigger chance for you to be mobbed.

If they were playing on God Mode, what do you mean when you say the enemies "hit hard"?

Does endurance play an important role in combat like in souls games? Also did you notice anything different in the UI? Maybe ammo for the firearm or something?

Let me know if you guys have any questions, as I'm sitting in line to see a Batman presentation.

Did they give any indication of the depth/amount of unique weapons, ability to customize your character, character clothes/armor? This remains my big reservation when comparing it to the souls games.

With FromSoft seemingly split into two teams now working in parallel, do you think we can expect a new game from them every year?

I realize they do other stuff like Armored Core as well, but I'm really talking about "Soulsy" games (we'll throw Bloodborne into that category for the time being)

If they were playing on God Mode, what do you mean when you say the enemies "hit hard"?

What I mean is that when you get hit, there's a lot of hit stun which allows for them to get successive hits in. So i imagine that if God mode was off, you'd be dead quick

Looks incredible, its going to be a tough wait.

I hope some of the gameplay being shown at e3 is made public soon.

Also moving away from the passive block-attack style, does this mean no shields? Or perhaps no 100% phys block shields? either way sounds great. I'll miss shield breaking in pvp if they're totally gone though.

This is very interesting. One of the original ideas for Dark Souls was that the Black Knights would be enemies who wandered around the map instead of staying in one place until aggro'd. It seems they've finally refined that idea enough to use it in Bloodborne.

Wait, mobs as in "angry mobs"? People actually pursuing you? If that's what you mean, then this will be the first time I've been able to do that since STALKER!

WANT! NEEEEEEEEEEED!

I think he means mobs as in just normal enemies; or at least that how the term is used in most mmo's/rpgs

Was this for all enemies or certain enemies? Did garbage mobs stagger the PC as long as bigger creatures, or were bigger creatures knocking the PC down outright?

Sorry, didn't hear anything like that. If I recall though, there might be little to no armor, hence the emphasis on attacking and dodging.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Looking forward to seeing the game in action and finding out more. It's crazy this game is just around the corner.

Unfortunately, the entire UP was turned off for the demo. On top of that God mode was on so I couldn't tell how the endurance works in this game. I would bet that it would be a big part since the game would be completely unbalanced without it.

The game actually has "deranged mobs" with torches and pitchforks as enemies, and the CGI trailer had the Beast Hunter hiding in an alleyway while they were looking the other way.

Also, maybe most importantly for me, did they give any indication of how long/if you're invulnerable while on the ground?

Gotcha, thanks for the info!

What was the UI like?

From the other thread, sorry, reception is terrible inside.

What was shown is actual game play. Someone was controlling the character. The character had the two weapons most of us saw already. The blunderbuss shotgun is straightforward, but the reaver butcher thing is retractable. You can use the retracted blade for quick attacks and the opened blade for stronger and longer attacks. Also, these are definitely not the only weapons.

The game is definitely like the Souls game in a more gothic theme that made me feel like Castlevania. Enemies had chatter behavior and reacted to the player like shielding once they saw the player. They also showed npcs that looked like players themselves fighting monsters. You got the choice of helping that npc or using them as a distraction.

Monsters ranged from the mutated people who were all bandaged up and had long arms to oversized crows that didn't seem dangerous as they were grounded until they try to chomp you like a crocodile with a screech of death. There were also dog creatures that would warn enemies of your position, and a large dude that was banging on a gate giving you the suspense of finding out what it is.

Then they showed a boss. I have no idea how to describe it. It's like an entish wooden beast, massive in size, and attacked with claw swipes while you're stuck in a small corridor.

That's all I have.
