Sorry, didn't hear anything like that. If I recall though, there might be little to no armor, hence the emphasis on attacking and dodging.

Thanks for the response. I really hope we get some sort of idea about this... I want to be unabashedly excited, but if it's a character action game without the character building elements, I'll be decidedly less excited.

Player creation is 100% confirmed. Invasion stuff is still up in the air. There's a rumor about what's in Famitsu about it, but it may not be true, so I won't post it again since people will likely be very disappointed if it doesn't play out like that.

If I could ask, did you see the game? If not, do you have a source for this?

Was this for all enemies or certain enemies? Did garbage mobs stagger the PC as long as bigger creatures, or were bigger creatures knocking the PC down outright?

Garbage would stagger character a little bit, while the stronger enemies would inflict a longer hit stun. The miniboss and boss for the area knocked down the character outright. One thing to note was that the character got up more quickly than demons souls

Did the player pause the game or bring up a menu at any point?

Seems like an amulet of sorts. Either it's part of the armor, or it's something similar to the ring system in the Souls games only this time with a visual representation.

Interesting. maybe rings are replaced with amulets or they play a different role.

Fascinating.. thanks for this. Hope you don't mind that I keep bombarding you with questions.

From the other thread, sorry, reception is terrible inside.

What was shown is actual game play. Someone was controlling the character. The character had the two weapons most of us saw already. The blunderbuss shotgun is straightforward, but the reaver butcher thing is retractable. You can use the retracted blade for quick attacks and the opened blade for stronger and longer attacks. Also, these are definitely not the only weapons.

The game is definitely like the Souls game in a more gothic theme that made me feel like Castlevania. Enemies had chatter behavior and reacted to the player like shielding once they saw the player. They also showed npcs that looked like players themselves fighting monsters. You got the choice of helping that npc or using them as a distraction.

Monsters ranged from the mutated people who were all bandaged up and had long arms to oversized crows that didn't seem dangerous as they were grounded until they try to chomp you like a crocodile with a screech of death. There were also dog creatures that would warn enemies of your position, and a large dude that was banging on a gate giving you the suspense of finding out what it is.

Then they showed a boss. I have no idea how to describe it. It's like an entish wooden beast, massive in size, and attacked with claw swipes while you're stuck in a small corridor.

That's all I have.

Nice descriptions

This right here concerns me to no end.

It could turn out awesome, of course, and I hope it does, but the 'Souls game feeling' would be lost and it would not be the spiritual successor that I want.

This game to me doesn't seem to be a "spiritual successor" on purpose. Looks like it's more action inspired.

I'm hyped, sounds great so far.

Wait, mobs as in "angry mobs"? People actually pursuing you? If that's what you mean, then this will be the first time I've been able to do that since STALKER!

WANT! NEEEEEEEEEEED!

One cool part that I saw was that the mobs sent dogs after you once they were alerted. Was pretty intimidating. Those dogs were quick.

The transforming sounds really cool. Almost like the "two handing" option but still allowing for holding a gun in the other hand.

Feel free to! It helps me to keep my memory fresh. Gonna check out The Order right now, but I'll check back in a sec if you have any more questions.

Other questions I have...

Were enemies using ranged weapons, what kinds were they if so?

Any long-distance enemies, like snipers of some sort that you have to deal with?

I heard the level was really vertical, so was it possible to die from like falling off ledges or other vertical spaces? (I'm really curious about this because of the fact that all the images we've gotten so far seem to very much be on ground level and mostly inside towns)

Edit: I know you kind of answered this one already, but: Also, maybe most importantly for me, did they give any indication of how long/if you're invulnerable while on the ground? Similarly important, was there any indication of being able to roll on the ground, either defensively or offensively?

If you say little to no armor, do you mean as in only armor that gives little protection (no heavy armor) or not much in general, as in you use the same for most or all of the game?

Thanks for the impressions btw.

My mistake.
They sure didn't make a sharp decision. How much would it take to put a "Sony Computer Entertainment" at the beginning of the stream trailer for 2 seconds?

Are we still on about the exclusivity?

It's PS4 exclusive. This is confirmed. I'm sorry, but it's happening.

I'm getting really excited now as I loved Demon's Souls, and Dark Souls is fantastic from what I've played so far. The only real thing I pray they add is the ability to pause the game

I hope they don't end up making this game 'too difficult'.

I felt the Souls games were hard but fair. It never really felt cheap (besides Anor Londo and certain moments in the game).

Needs to have balanced difficulty. It said they're aiming for Demon's Souls difficulty. Have never played Demon's Souls so I have no idea it's difficulty.

In Demons Souls there is a thing called world tendency. When you die in human form the game gets much more difficult as the game moves to a pure black world tendency.
I am very happy this game will not cater to the COD crowd.

Once i see full gameplay, this will most likely be the game that makes me get a PS4. Looks really cool so far

I love that they are going with a faster combat system, hopefully we will see gameplay soon. The game is coming out sooner than I thought.

Mechanics like that suck. You're just punishing someone who doesn't happen to do well.

Being hard but fair =/= COD crowd.

I felt Dark Souls 1 was an excellent game because each death felt like my fault, not because of some random BS.

If you're still confused at this point, then you only have yourself to blame.

It's an IP held by Sony, it's being produced by Sony Japan Studio and developed by From Software.

It should probably be in the thread title because it's still unclear to some or they are in denial when every bit says it's exclusive.
Starting to get a bit annoying even, so hopefully a mod can change the thread title.

Jesus... If this doesn't have visual character customisation, it'll be a deal-breaker for me.

This game still needs to be loot based. Come on.

Demon's Souls was excellent for the same reason. I never felt like world tendency was punishing me for not doing well.

I'm really curious to see if they've completely changed the whole life/death economy of bonfires, bloodstains, enemy respawns and unlocking shortcuts.
That was some amazing design but if they can do something different, I'd like to see what they can do instead to balance things out.

That game is definitely at the top of my list.

Edit: I wasn't a fan of the world tendency system as it could lock you out of some obtuse stuff pretty easily. And online kind of fucked up your local setting.

What are you talking about? I have a PS4 and don't have an XBO. Actually, XBO is the only console I don't own

Can't I be concerned about XBO only users? Do I have to get accused just because I'm not someone who says "those stupid port beggers don't stop, do they?"

I thought that there was a "Sony Computer Entertainment" at the beginning of the stream, so at the beginning I thought those port beggers were just annoying. But after another guy told me there wasn't any clue of the exclusivity on the original stream, I think that this was just miscommunication on the Sony part. XBO owners who don't follow gaming forums or just saw the trailer pulled from the livestream don't have any fault, they're just naive.

It's sad that if I just worry about XBO users, I get considered one of them

No. You're providing a teachable moment. Pay the fuck attention, make smart decisions, and think tactically to move ahead. It punishes complacency, encourages hyper vigilance, and makes you care about your progress in a way that other games have forgotten how to do.

This game will never be for everyone, though. And you're right, being a bit more fair with how it hands out the punishment doesn't mean it's becoming COD, but the world tendency mechanic is a fantastic mechanic.

"keeping the deep strategic elements from Demon’s Souls, while also transitioning from the passive and block-and-attack style of Demon’s Souls to a quicker, more offensive and active combat style with close-range weapons and guns."

My preferred play-style in the Souls games was and is aggressive, no-shield play, so this is pretty much music to my ears.

Totally agree. Dual wielding ftw

Yup. I feel like the gameplay demo shown was mainly to allay worries that this wasn't a proper Souls successor. I look forward to hearing more about things like the life/death economy and more about character customization.

Love your avatar, btw. Just platted that game finally over the weekend. Brilliant stuff.

Please can someone get a camera into this presentation. I am sure Patrick could fit one into his hair if he really tried.

Increasing soft humanity makes DS1 easier, dying limits the applicability of consuming humanity, so it's not worlds away from tendency in terms of difficulty. Tendency is also only an issue offline really.

I don't think DeS is particularly difficult at all. Maneater is a dick though.

Demon's was more difficult before people knew everything that could be exploited in the game. Basically with the right setup you are invincible Dark Souls fixed that to a certain extent.

Way to generalize and stereotypes everyone who likes COD. Not sure how it's related but fuck those filthy casuals!

Personally, I think stuff like the world tendency system is idiotic. It doesn't affect the skilled players so it's pointless for them and it just frustrates people who are already bad at it. Does nothing for either group. Something like the bonfire ascetic system from DS2 is vastly superior.

Genius you could even have different colors and style. Why couldn't we have had this sooner it would be perfect.

Well, maybe we can have one ready for E3 2015 where all the megatons we didn't see this year will happen.

THEY FUCKING BETTER. ALSO TLG TGS?!?! I've lost almost all hope.

You can actually tell the guy he's misinformed and he should do more research on it. The mention in the E3 presentation and the partnership with SCE definitely means it's PS exclusive (at least to consoles).

I'm interested in the game but I need gameplay. :( May or may not be the type of game for me.
