Just finished watching the second live gameplay stream (I had it paused), I can already tell this game is going to suck soooooo many hours out of my life, I'll have to brace myself! The livestream was basically a confirmation that you can choose to dick around to your heart's content for as long as you want, you can put off the story objective and just explore, fight monsters, whatever, right out of the gate. And the customizable main character, now I'm excited about it! I have a tradition of making a pink haired punkish looking woman whenever I play an rpg if it's an option, and looks like I'll be able to do that lol

I flinched, haha

hah, sorry about that ;-) Anyways, I'm so glad Nintendo chose to do e3 this way, my impression and assumptions about them have been change so much! I was laughing along with them when they dared to attack that big dinosaur monster, it's the kind of "fooling around" that a player does when testing what a game allows you to do, just to see what happens.

They said during customization you can change the voice, so I'm guessing there's still some of that.
If there's a lot of customization for the voice, I think that might mean there isn't much actual talking. Can't see them doing more than one voice actor per gender for the main character really.
Sort of like Monster Hunter has voice customization, but there's barely any actual talk then.

But I hope I'm wrong though.
Either way, even if it'd be slightly disappointing if the main character won't speak that much, I trust in Monolith Soft so not that big a deal to me.

something the treehouse guy said peaked my interest:
he talked about how you will be able to find other survivors in pots scattered around the world and how you have to guide them back.

What if you not only "rescue" them from their pots, but also recruit them to your party sort a like the girl does with you. This would not only enable you to customize your team members but also prevent the problem with online play. If some custom character gets replaced by another one (like your friend for example), that's wouldn't really matter to the story.

also about the problem with the silent cast and customisation: There are quite a few workarounds: people can address you using some nickname or military code for example. Wouldn't be the only game where someone called me "Rookie". Other party members could have fixed voices and names though.

What do you think?

Did you play Xenoblade? Because if you did I think the most obvious conclusion is that they're just doing an expanded version of what they did for the first game. Actual party members will definitely be fixed by the story, no random shits you can find optionally. The recruitment system will be for rebuilding and expanding the colony. In Xenoblade there's an entire game long sidequest involving rebuilding a colony after it is attacked by enemies, and it involves going all over the world and finding people in various other towns or fields who are looking to move to a new place. This is probably something similar.

Um...nope. It's done by Hiroyuki Sawano. Look up his name, and I'm pretty sure you'll see some very familiar anime titles in the list he's worked on.

I keep trying to block Sawano's involvement in this out, but then I keep getting reminded of it.

I hope he isn't doing all of the soundtrack.

He is. I hope by the time the game is released the WiIU will have enough homebrew options to replace the soundtrack with construction noises instead. Would certainly be an improvement.

It's strange how they got a guy who has only done anime as opposed to a videogame industry vet. I would have preferred Shimomura, Mitsuda, Hosoe, Ace+, anyone. The music won't live up to Xenoblade's.

Tetsuya Takahashi watched Gundam Unicorn and got hooked. It's all Unicorn's fault.

I actually enjoy the music so far, but I still don't think it is as good as Xenoblades. But I haven't heard much of X's soundtrack yet, so it's hard to say.

That first trailer back in January last year had a fantastic track.

Yeah, that is probably my favorite that I've heard so far.

EDIT: Fixed a line.

Sawano is competent, however I am a bit that maybe worried he was chosen to give a more cinematic feel or something.

I love Xenoblade gamey tracks!

The GOAT.

Just listening to that instantly makes me picture the gorgeous blueness of the area swirling all over the marsh. So many good tracks in that game.

I really hope X has a lot of areas as well. I love the starting area, but I do hope we see some even more fantastical areas of that world. Give me something like Eryth Sea pls.

Just so happened to go in to Satorl Marsh during the day.

Thought what a shitty uninspired area after Guar Plains.

Then the clock struck 7 and boom! crazy colours starting appearing all around me!

Amazing experience.

Ofc I played it, even imported the japanese version at launch and beat it without knowing any japanese at that time ;).
I'm just trying to connect loose ends here. Multiplayer isn't going to work the same way as it does in Somabringer. So I thought, if the already got the opportunity to introduce noname characters through life pots which are easily replaceable, they might go for it.
It would also fit with what the tree house guy said about customization.
Also, I wonder if they'd just waste the character editor like that. No reason to give you that many tools if you only get to use it once in the entire game...

I like Sawano's music. =/
As do I. While it's a shame that the original Xenoblade's composers won't be working on it to make another OST like that one, I am willing to give Sawano a chance to do things his way (granted, I haven't liked what I've seen of Attack on Titan itself and will be making a point of avoiding watching Guilty Crown based on what I've heard about that show).

That is exactly what happened to me. I went into the Marsh during the day, and I was actually somewhat disappointed at how it looked after coming from the Bionis Leg. I just walked around a little exploring and then it got dark and the area went from dull/drab to beautiful. I pretty much kept the time at night when I explored the marsh unless a quest required something in the day, lol.

X definitely needs stuff like this, the crystals in the snowy area at night, and the meteor showers in Eryth Sea. Those things were just a spectacle to see.

Satorl Marsh at night was just so beautiful. It does make me a little sad that no matter how beautiful the areas will be, the music probably won't be able to match up with it in the new game.

Yeah, wish we had the previous composers working on this.
I want X to up the ante on wanderlust that Xenoblade invoked. That includes having areas like Eryth Sea and Satorl Marsh.
Sawano's music will be just cinematic drivel for the most part.

Just get Yuki Kajiura, pls.

from what we've seen so far in the first area, the day/night transition is really good and the art is great too.

just hope the music can match it :(

I enjoy that we're going back to pseudo-cryptic names for characters.

Elma obviously == Alma == Soul and is going to play the Elly/KOS-MOS/Fiora-Meyneth role in this game.

Sawano's music is mostly fine but the track that's in the trailer is totally just standard Sawano fare. I imagine since the game will probably be 50+ hours again there'll be plenty of non-standard Sawano music similar to some of his tracks from KLK.
