Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

So I've found that in explore mode you can pretty easily get to areas we aren't really meant to go during the alpha. I found a little hidden path in one area, went down it and got knocked off my speeder by some level 22s. I NOPE'd the fuck out of there as fast as possible and somehow made it without dying. Good times.

how do you do explore mode? i just saw the two missions. thanks in advance.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading the alpha? I downloaded Sly Cooper from ps plus on my PS3 in about an hour and a half last night and that's a 15 gb download. I've been trying to download this since about 4 pm today (almost 5 hours ago) and i'm only 2/3 of the way done. I've tried wifi and hardwired

Turn off your PS4 (not standby) and restart it. That fixed the speed for me. My speed went from 50 KB/s to 3 MB/s

Played the game for a good hour, and I'm really enjoying it. So far I only have 1 con. They need to find some way to balance the difficulty of a mission/event depending on how many players are currently doing it. Did they really expect me by myself to fight
a wizard, elder, (I forgot who the 3rd guy was but he was strong as well), and over 10 henchmen? I died the second they spawned
. Everyone that was in the area left, so it's not like anyone would come for my aid anyways. It's kinda like the game expects you to have 3 people with you during an event, when that almost never happens. I know this is an alpha, but just giving input just in case.

That's the only con I have so far. The graphics, and atmosphere is really impressing me. I was actually a bit uneasy when
I went into that dark room with the hive in it. If it wasn't for my radar, I would have been scared in that situation lol.

Destiny here I come!! Thanks to liquid for the hookup!

Loving it so far. Level 7 so i'm not to far into. Spent a lot of time on Earth in that mission were you go from radio beacon to radio beacon picking up quests. I'm gonna assume these radio beacon quests are infinite. Just did like 10 of them and they keep coming. Got into a few of them world events while i was radio beacon jumping. Shit was so cash, bunch of random people fucking shit up. Kinda feels like PSO and Mass Effect had a baby and this is what came out.

PvP seems great too. Moon base is such a fun map. Taking a little break to recharge my DS4 and get a soda then back to it.

I absolutely LOVE being right.

Seeing all the negativity flip to amazement and fun is the best!

Exploring on your own is the absolute BEST feeling I've gotten from a game since Journey. It's capable of triggering my curiosity over and over, and sending chills down my spine.

Keep looking around. I've stumbled on the coolest areas that are not immediately noticeable and seen some crazy things.

that would be amazing. I know they want people to do things in groups but this would really make it great for people like me who enjoy playing huge games like this solo a lot of the time.

Yup, can't get enough of this.

Might be the only game this year to challenge Wolfenstein for GOTY, for me.

same here. wolfie is definitely my goty at this moment. this baby here might just overthrow it. wolfie really is something special also though. i feel for people that refuse to play it because it's a wolfenstein game. since when did that become a bad thing? i've never played a bad wolfie game. anyway, sorry to go off topic but just wanted to agree wholeheartedly with your opinion.

same. went from 3 hours to 70+. Now it won't move.

Does the game play mostly like an MMO (but with FPS combat)? I'd have thought something like that may play better with the PC crowd than console.

Well when you are at the Tower, Its all third person and It definitely feels like an MMO, with everyone walking around and dancing and such.

But when you are out on Old Russia, Earth (doing some mission) it goes to a First person shooter and feels very much like Halo at times. With players randomly dropping into your game and helping you before disappearing (or staying forever, I had some dude constantly follow me).

On The Cruicible (Multiplayer like Team Deathmatch) it feels very much like Call of Duty as in quick deaths and very fast paced.

Also all the menu's you are moving around a cursor to select options with the analog sticks.
Almost like PC a mouse around a desktop.
It really does feel like this was made for PC than anything else.

Edit: I should also mention the low FOV (Field of View) it really does feel cramped at times with your weapon taking up 40% of the screen.

One question: In the tower you should go to a quest marker. But.. yeah... there is a gateway in front of it. Is there a way into it?

You can only do levels 4 - 8 in this game.

There's stairs leading to a downstairs area.

Guild Wars 2, which is an MMO does this phenomenally. Depending on how many players are at the event, it would decrease how many enemies would appear. The more people that come to the event, the enemy count increases as the battle goes on. I really liked that about GW2, and I'm hoping they can do that with Destiny as well. I don't have many friends to play with, so it'd help me out. It sure did in GW2.

I was a bit skeptical about this game. Especially since Borderlands as much as I tried failed to hook me. But I have to say, after the first mission alone in the alpha, I'm already sold. It feels so fucking good to play

One thing....don't get in a small circle quest loop. After a bit jump on your speeder and hit a new area. I've noticed the quests seem to want to keep you local.

Spread out and you'll see so many more cool things.

I don't know what to do after the first quest. I found a quest to survey some caves but I don't know how to get to it.

I made the mistake of forgetting you can double jump, I ran around the building you have to survey for like half an hour until someone else came by, and I was like doh.

How many of these beacon missions do you do, or are they infinite?

Pre-ordering tomorrow morning. Everything about this game feels right so far. Hopefully the retail version fixes minor frame drops, the announcer in PvP, and the mini map (having a hard time indicating where that person is when shooting)

Played solo for about an hour. So far to me it's nothing special, enemies, weapons and environment seem pretty generic almost like Mass Effect. Character creator is awesome, but the robot species seems like a throw away, just not very personal. Overall cool, but I need to give it more time, or it needs to give me more compelling stuff to keep going.

Just played for a while beat the first quest and explored the tower, this game is the shiznitz.

I was anticipating it before but now it's my most anticipated game of the year, good thing release is not too far away.

This has GOTY all over it.
